Suggestion for Fan - Fiction Bad Pilots

Well have you ever watched one of your favorite shows and thought the pilot sucked. Well I have and I have a suggestion for the Fan - Fiction section. What is we made a section where you can re - write your favorite pilot epsiode or the worst you've ever seen. It's just the pilot episodes and thats it nothing else; you cant contiue the series in your hands just the pilot. So what do you guys thing of that?

I don't think there's any reason to make a whole new section just for remade pilots, honestly. I don't believe it will get many posts. I think if people just want to rewrite an episode they could put it in the Other Shows Fiction section or if it was Buffy, Angel, or Firefly, Jossverse Fiction, obviously. I think the sections we have now are fine.

Ben is right; that doesn't really warrant a section of it's own ^^; If you had the permission of the original writer I'm sure it'd be cool to write something like that and post it in the jossverse section or something like that.

Another idea is to make that one of the fanfiction challenges. The section could use all the support it can get

Wooh. This idea has a lot of possible pitfalls.

The most important thing is that this is a community. I think that how you say "the pilot sucked" would create animosity between fanfic writers even if that is not the intention. In addition rather than rewriting the work of an untouchable and faceless person, it would be of someone who has a lot more personal attachment and is close to the rewriter. Seeing one's own work cut up and redone in another's vision is pretty violating no matter how much one realize's the original was lacking.

Even if I did think it was a good idea, a section would not be made since there are so few fanfic series on the forum and therefore that few a threads possible.

I do think that might make for a decent fanfiction challenge idea if the original authors volunteered their pilots.

How about a challenge to rewrite bad TV pilots instead? I think Smallville's pilot could certainly have stood some reijigging. Or rewriting bad episodes? EG?if you don't like Beer Bad, why not write something else that would've fitted at that point in the season, but that you think works better? Or even just rewriting scenes?

Just to reiterate what has already been said. If you - or anyone else - wishes to write AU fanfiction based on TV shows that you've seen, whatever your motivation to do so - you are free to do so. But an entire new section for this would not be necessary. We already have an Other Shows fanfiction section where such stories may be housed.

If you would like to see other members' versions of TV pilots, you can sign up to run a fanfiction challenge. But I'd be wary of saying 're-write this pilot episode because it sucked', as that is a highly subjective statement; just because you believe something sucked doesn't mean everyone else will feel the same. So I'd be cautious of your wording - say that the concept behind a particular new show inspired you to explore a different direction than was taken on the show perhaps

I know Fan Art has experienced some pretty nasty carve-each-other-up art theft from other web users recently, but the suggestion wasn't to carve fellow Fan Fic writers' pilots up, Ehlwyen - just the standard playing with TV show pilot dollies.

(Not that I'm sure Fan Fic writers couldn't do a good carve up if we put our minds to it - we got the words and we're not afraid to use them an' all.)

A Challenge sounds a good idea, bearing in mind Llywela's advice. Thanks, Jo, your finesse is probably the main reason Fan Fic doesn't go in for self mutilation (looks like fun, though ... sigh)

After readin all these threads I really think that haveing a challenge would be a great idea. And the suck comment came out wrong, I didnt mean it that. I meant a pilot that you think would be better or fit better with the series or somthing that you would like. I guess but I like the challenge idea.

I believe the original post did suggest changing fellow BF writer's series pilots and Kevin changed it after I first read it. Or I could just be going crazy. And although I think it's an interesting idea, I would hate for everyone's personal product be open game for anyone else to rewrite without their permission as an actual would seem to endorse. And I've had plenty of written work carved up as well.

I think a challenge is a good idea, Kevin. And I know that you didn't mean suck as you said. I just worry not everyone would realize you were exaggerating.

NO I didnt not say changing BF members pilot episodes I was talking about shows that already exist like on TV NOT VS series. Just wanted to clear that up but I do like it as a challenge.
