Give a girl a minute to watch and process this!

What on earth is the question to his answer "Seeing Red, the Body and Into The Woods"? "What are your least favorite BtVS episodes"? It can't have been "What are your favorite BtVS episodes since he already said he dislikes Into the Woods. But ... The Body? Really?

I only watched the first three minutes so far. Will be back.

ETA: Did he just insult his viewers?

ETA: Okay, I watched it. Riley never grew as a person or a character. Buffy was right and Xander was wrong. The whole episode was fine until Buffy started running. I think this is basically consensus about Into the Woods in fandom, isn't it? I mean, it's a pretty solid review but why did he make a 40 minutes long video where fifteen minutes would have sufficed?

YouTube managed to squeeze seven ads into these fourty minutes. I am pretty pissed about that.

Possibly most thought-provoking, but I'd assume disliked.

Oooo, perhaps emotionally rough wallops on Buffy.

Boy has his work going down hill imo.

Suffice to say I hated this. Instead of an overall analyse of the episode it turned into a 'anti man', and in particular 'anti Riley' rant.

We get it, YOU HATE HIM! Okay? Now move the hell on! I'm afraid I thought the entire thing was far too long, and he ended up repeating himself. I mean as has he forgotten how to edit?

To be frank I thought it was a self indulgent mess, playing to the "Aren't all men crap" crowd. I watched it 'live' so to speak and the comments in chat on there backed that up. Personally I think he's loosing it, and with things like the sudden and yet repetitive inter cutting of other footage (which I notice is popular with certain Youtube reactors) is just dragging the quality down. Let the kids do that kind of nonsense. You're meant to be a bloody adult.

Well, to be fair, the comments on YouTube are in his favor...

I don't mind the rant in itself, it's his video and he doesn't have to be impartial or "reasonable" if he doesn't want to, and he gives pretty good arguments as to why he feels the way he does (I'll admit I agree with a lot of them ^^).
One thing that does bother me is his saying that Buffy showing a bit of darkness is OOC, and his general over-protectiveness of the character. I love Buffy too, but by refusing to acknowledge that she has a dark side to herself and that she is capable of morally questionable actions, he is actually selling her character short, and it often feels a bit like paternalistic/benevolent sexism imho. It's not like Buffy has never done or will not do some truly questionable stuff under emotional stress (WSWB, GD, Gone, DT, etc...), and I think it's perfectly IC for her to lash out violently.

It does not bode well because he might say she is OOC through all of season 6.

flow Yeah given what he's said so far I expect he'll heavily lean towards the "Buffy is being taken advantage of and gaslit by master manipulator Spike" end of the spectrum, but hopefully he'll be a little more nuanced than that. It's a sore point for me because this interpretation is really taking away something fascinating that's done with Buffy's arc and replacing it with the most boring-ass take (not that there isn't something to it, but it's so much more complicated than that, and I love the complexity).

The problem with a lot of men joining in on the whole “our society is terribly sexist” isn’t that they’re necessarily wrong that there’s been structural sexism built into everything for so long - women banned from certain college degrees, women unable to maintain their own bank accounts, women finding it almost impossible to get a job in certain fields - but that in response, they tend to ‘pedestal’ women into some kind of perfect, virtuous victim. Agree that it’s just another form of paternalistic sexism. Buffy can’t be a total a**hole because she’s a female beset by males - Buffy can’t have a ‘dark’ side or be into porn/sex or whatever activity drags her from that pedestal into the mud or it’s OOC.

It’s frustrating because one doesn’t want to see some shallow sexist portrayal of Buffy where she’s just a bitch or a slut, but denying her the agency to have a dark side ends up creating a virgin/whore dynamic anyway that repels a lot of people when it comes to Season Six.

Stoney EDIT: A separate thread has been opened from this discussion tangent on S6 and the division between fandom and writers here.

I agree that the last 10 minutes are probably Riley's fever dream, other than that, nothing new. I don't dislike this episode as much as he does, I'm quite indifferent about it. I'm not sad that Riley is gone. The review was a bit too long and became repetitive.

Flow, not always. I've seen some not 'appreciating' his take on certain characters or scenarios, but to say imo he's wee bit sensitive about people not agreeing with him would be an understatement.

He's a pretentious douche who loves the sound of his own voice, wine, and saying whatever he thinks will get him the most views/likes. F*** him.

He sounds like your typical Buffy fan on tumblr and reddit.
