Just learned today that GB has an unwritten constitution. Makes me feel a bit better that it took from 1867 to 1982 or Canada to bring home our constitution. At least it was written down somewhere.

Yeah...as I understand it, we made most of it up as we went along and then someone kinda wrote down bits of what we did (Dear Diary...Today we decided to give everyone the vote and I kissed a serving wench in the scullery) and called them "Laws", "Charters", "Acts" etc. and the rest's just habit (like leaving the toilet seat up). The Speaker's there to remind us of what we did/should be doing (or to piss the Tories off - depends which side of the fence you're on). When we've finished arguing over Europe we might get round to writing it all down - if we can get a consensus on which bloody font to use.

Well, there goes three years of writing, research, thesis-ing, collecting material...all down the drain. Apparently my Mac didn't survive the water damage so all the data was lost and it was replaced with a new model. Thankfully I still have some saved in emails so all is not totally lost.

Oh no! Everyone learns the "backup on thumb drive " rule the hard way. I learned by losing every baby picture I had of my children so I feel your pain

So sorry about that SG - I wasn't aware there'd been a problem. Losing my PhD research was my biggest fear. *Luckily* it was back in the days of small internal memory and desktop computers so I had no option other than saving to floppy disc and/or emailing it to myself. Now I use a huge external HD but I'm much more lax about backups than I used to be. As GoSpuffy says, we always learn the hard way.

    my deepest sorrow, SpuffyGlitz

i learned the hard way, too, back in grad school...

but i know others' learning can be of little
    comfort to you now...

there can be only the carrying onward...

Oh mate, I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm glad you've at least got your emails, but losing everything else is so depressing

So sorry SpuffyGlitz, I'm glad it wasn't all lost but I appreciate whatever amount is gone is going to be painful after all your work.

Yeah, made it from a couple of different parts of Boom comics variant covers and a dark willow gif.

Nice job blending the gif with the comic images.

What ever your political persuasion, you have to admire this! From Twitter:

Nick Robinson BBC How to sum up last few days for Boris Johnson? 5 days in Commons + 5 major defeats - 21 Tory MPs = 0 majority + 0 election + 0 plan for Brexit + 5 weeks of Parliament suspended

Response: If he'd been managing a Premier League side, he'd be out by now.

Further Response: If he'd been managing a premier petrol station he would be out even sooner!

Well - it made me laugh (and it's 6 defeats now)!

Honestly - you couldn't make it up! I stayed up until 2.30 watching Parliament: a protest re-enactment of when they tried to stop the dissolution in 1629; the Welsh singing Bread of Heaven; Labour singing The Red Flag and The Speaker claiming he didn't give a "flying flamingo". I'm emigrating!

It will certainly be interesting to see what happens October 31.

Meanwhile in Vancouver, thunder storms and lightning very very frightening

Flooding is unusual here, or at least it was before climate change, we're built for rain.
