The next election will be october 2019 or earlier so no promises. We sort of have fixed dates but not like the Americans. The govt can call an election early if they want to. It's a crazy world out there and our Conservative party has elected a trump wanna be as the leader. It's hard to imagine he could win but you just never know anymore. Be afraid. Be very afraid. And vote to make racism and devisiveness wrong again.

    Oh lovely Canada—!

when Bush II was elected, my now-Ex and I

we were living in Buffalo and used to go there

now, of course, it is so unimaginably much worse...

I just moved back from the Middle East, and
I so very much wish I had not...

Joss re-posted this video from the election 2 years ago . . . it didn't inspire enough Democrats then, but maybe it will now

Silver1 I've just seen this notice about an EU Home Affairs Sub-Committee meeting yesterday discussing access to medicines with regard to Brexit. Not sure if it would offer any further insight for you/your situation, but it might be worth seeing. You can view sub committee meetings through the parliament tv access (here) if you go into the archive and search for yesterday's I think (I've never actually tried it). It may of course not offer any help or progress for you at all and I'm sure the bureaucracy of it all is no doubt highly exasperating, but just wanted to flag it up in case you hadn't heard about it and were interested.

Yay! Six emails have just come through in quick succession - all from ERNIE. For the uninitiated, ERNIE picks out UK Premium Bond winners - it's a bit like a lottery. At the very least it's 6 x £25 but if I don't log onto the bank I won't know. It could be 6 x £100. Or 6 x £1000. Or 6 x £5000. Or maybe it's more - maybe it's £1,000,000 and they couldn't contact me because I've changed my mobile/cell number!

I'm not gonna log on...I'm gonna dream on instead.

Yep, just the local one. I would probably have just watched through the window too but the kids always want to go and get to go on the rides too.

Hope you had a great night? I love fireworks and bonfires and Bonfire Night was always a big deal when I was a kid.

Yeah me too, we only rarely did Halloween (it seems to have become more of a thing in recent years) but always did bonfire night. It was good and we even got overly cold pausing every few moments to watch the fireworks going off around town on the way back. But I definitely wouldn't object to just watching in the warmth though, I hope you got to see plenty.

    In Flanders Fields

    John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

Has anyone read this: The Sky is Falling: How Vampires, Zombies, Androids and Superheroes Made America Great for Extremism by Peter Biskind?

This is what the blurb says:

"In The Sky is Falling! bestselling cultural critic Peter Biskind takes us on a dizzying ride across two decades of pop culture to show how the TV and movies we love - from Game of Thrones and 24 to Homeland and Iron Man - have taught us to love political extremism. Welcome to a darkly pessimistic, apocalyptic world where winter has come, the dead are walking, and ultra violence, revenge and torture are all in a day's work. Welcome to the new normal."

I've got Biskind's Easy Riders, Raging Bulls . I think I'll order it for my son for Christmas - then borrow it back.

Uuum.... I really doubt that most Americans who voted for Trump did it because they watched too much of The Walking Dead.
Sure, that activity may seriously damage your brain and is not recommended... but still.
You keep waiting for the dust to settle and then you realize it; the dust is your life going on. If happy comes along - that weird unbearable delight that's actual happy - I think you have to grab it while you can. You take what you can get, 'cause it's here, and then...gone.

A quote from one of my favourite books.

"From this day to the ending of the World,

Do you - wherever you live - also have this tradition where children alk the streets after nightfall in mid November with handmade lanterns? I did it today with my youngest for the third time in a week. At least there was Glühwein at the end...
