Saw the Elton John biopic Rocketman this afternoon and it was very good. Taron Egerton was excellent, as were all the performances. Special mention to Richard Madden's eyebrows. The use of Elton's songs were very well done, and quite unexpected in places. I felt it was a little self indulgent at the end, but overall I'd highly recommend it.

You'll have to make do with Broomfield's "Kurt & Courtney".

I'm thinking of going to see "Yesterday" tomorrow. Anyone seen it? I like the Beatles and the trailer looks cute:

I haven't seen it, but it does look good. All those Beatles songs make it worthwhile, even if the movie isn't great.

But you get to listen to all those fantastic songs, that would make it worthwhile. I've seen clips and it looks ok, nothing great, but there's a few laughs to be had I think.

yesterday was pretty good. It was fairly predictable but that's to be expected these days. Music was solid, story was original and I enjoyed it.

Just watched "the great hack" on Netflix about Cambridge analytica. Scary stuff. I wonder, do any of us feel we've been targeted and manipulated? At first I thought "I've been raised with pretty strong alignments they probably didn't target me as a persuadable." Then I realized that's probably what everyone thinks.

I was persuaded to see Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, although I'm not a big Tarantino fan. I enjoyed it, mostly. The music is wonderful, although Out of Time playing over the attack was a bit on the nose, it's still a great song. The performances were all, across the board, absolutely fantastic. There really wasn't one bum note from anyone. Personally I felt Damian Lewis being cast as Steve McQueen, ridiculous and an 'opposite' casting that just made me laugh out loud.

There were some very funny moments, but the ending left me saddened. It was too slapstick and silly and felt somehow disrespectful to the murdered. At the very end it felt like Rick was invited into heaven to meet the dead, as though Tarantino was trying so assuage the earlier disrespect . . . The friend I went with was actually angry at the ending, which I also understand.

Saw Hustlers today. Haven't seen J-Lo in a film for a long time and forgot she's actually a pretty good actress. The film is too long, needed 20 mins edited out, but had a good story and sympathetic characters. I'd recommend.

Watched 'Joker' yesterday. It may not be to everyones taste, but I thought It was superb.

From the performances, to the art direction, design and music (a big shout out to the lady who did the score for this and who also scored the magnificent Chernobyl) which helped bind the whole thing together. A great character driven piece that doesn't rely on OTT action pieces and heavy use of CGI. It's also a film you really have to have your wits about you when you watch it or you may end up missing as to whats really going on. Highly recommended.

This is at least the third if not fourth time I've heard someone respond very enthusiastically to this film. It's gonna have to go on the 'to watch' list.
