    Preview pages for Angel #12

    Spoiler:

    - - - Updated - - -

    Spoiler:

Illyria and Angel feeding the giant flowers Fred’s clothes and his coat – and it seems they are hard for them to digest. But soon they recover, and Illyria says that things are happening because of “something Angel possess, something he brought forward”, and that “he must give up”.

Their clothes work against the flowers for a while, but why? Fred’s clothes are from the past (she changed on the ship), but Angel’s aren’t. And what does Angel possess and is hesitating to give up???

Do the beetles/scarabs have meaning? They appeared in Angel's vision, in the hotel, in the past (turning men into zombies), now they seem to be "working" with the plant... I hope so, because if they are in the story only for show, I'll be disappointed.

    Spoiler:
It's probably referring to the ring that he got from Kathy. Some literal meaning about Angel letting go of the past again

    Spoiler:

The ring! Issue #10. And Kathy says: "You won't forget me, not ever." So, by throwing their clothes - or Fred's (a piece from the past), at least - to the plant, it almost dies. Angel has the ring, and the memory of having seeing her sister again, and he must give that up.

It's kind of lame. When have Angel forgotten something? Having killed his family? Doesn't he have "photographic memory" or something? I know that having talked to Kathy again is something powerful, but... the world is almost ending (well, Dublin, at least), and he will make a fuss about throwing the ring?

I think you're right, it's a new lesson for Angel to let go of the past for once, to stop trying fixing what he did at all costs.

Can Joss Whedon stop writing those "old man who looks young and a high-school girl fall in love" type of stories? Dude, no, just...just stop. It was weird in the 90s, it's even weirder now, especially in the current cultural landscape. Especially after that article Whedon's ex-wife wrote. It's just so tone-deaf, you know?
