    Default Art Theft

I've had several requests to open the thread again. Theft is a very sad thing so I realize it's nice for there to be a community to help contact thieves who find it easy to ignore a single person.

I felt the old thread was too spammy to be in the Fanart Section. It was getting more attention than the actual art threads. Also since a disappointing subject it wasn't providing the positive nature and inspiration that the threads in the Fanart Section are based on. So that's why the new thread is here in the Miscellaneous section.

    Lydia made the punch!

As a general rule of thumb, I like to give people a chance. I like to inform them of what they have done and how it is wrong with the well-known and public and respected rules of the art community and let them know that if they fix what they have messed up on... I won't call them out or ask you fine people for help and will just keep checking on them to make sure they don't continue their stupid art crap.

This person was not responded and in fact has continued to ask for affiliation with more people! And while Kiera did voice her opinion quite brilliantly on her tagboard she then lashed out at Kiera so I asked her to read her email outlining the examples that she demands. I try to be nice but don't get all bitchy because then... we bitch on you!

    My email:
    Spoiler:

    Hello,

This is Bre from Primordial Souls (http://www.primordialsouls.com/). You recently asked to affiliate with my site and as I was checking out your site, I noticed a few things that raise some concern for the art community. Whenever someone asks to affiliate, I usually take some time to go through their site to check out their art, their goodies, etc just to see everything so I can get to know you. I also do it to check for art theft as this has been a problem for many years and most of the time people are doing it without realizing it.

This is not the case. You have one wallpaper in your recent art section that is using MY wallpaper as the base, the texture and the gradients. Please be aware that I consider this stealing. You did not make this wallpaper, you did not post this wallpaper in 2008 as I did and I DO NOT allow people to use my wallpapers as textures, gradients or for the pictures. Not only is it literally stealing another wallpaper, it's stealing an idea and that's just as bad in the art community's book. On top of that, you can still see some of MY signature from that wallpaper in yours.

    My wallpaper: http://www.primordialsouls.com/art/b...adlydeeply.jpg

    Your wallpaper: http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...BuffyAngel.png

When I asked for some other's opinions, they came back with the same consensus. This is stealing.

On top of that, another artist found another example of your using another person's wallpaper (Jenni-Lou of Daydreaming - http://fractured-simplicity.net/daydreaming/) to make your own:

    Her wallpaper: http://fractured-simplicity.net/dayd...e.php?pid=1744

    Your wallpaper: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sublime...n/photostream/

You need to REMOVE these wallpapers from the internet, please - immediately. You are stealing from other people and that is NOT tolerated in the art community in which you are trying to intergrate yourself. We like to respect each others' work, let them know we appreciate it with kind words and that we don't show our love for their wallpapers by USING THEM in our own.

Please also REMOVE all wallpapers that you have taken liberties with as well. This is just after a small look at everything. If you did use another person's wallpaper in your own wallpapers that is not listed here, please REMOVE THEM.

I look forward to your response. Please know that this is taken quite seriously and if you don't acknowledge this, I will be alerting everyone to both your site and your Flickr account and whatever else we can find.

This isn't a threat against you, this is just a warning that this is a very serious offense in our community and we don't take lightly to it.

Thank you again and I look forward to hearing back from you,
    Bre
    http://www.primordialsouls.com/

Alas - this is more of a heads-up that she is requesting affiliation with many sites and a request for more eyes to help find some more examples for her to see what she is doing wrong.

I only found one of my wallpapers being used (and honestly it was a stroke of luck because I'd recently gone through my older art to delete some stuff and I honestly wouldn't have thought twice looking at her wallpaper because it was a few years ago when I made that - same as Jenni Lou's!):

    My wallpaper: http://www.primordialsouls.com/art/b...adlydeeply.jpg

    Your wallpaper: http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...BuffyAngel.png

And Zugma in her awesomeness found MORE (re-posted from my LJ post)!

And - I just tried to google that person out of curiousity, found their Flickr and on the first page, there's this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sublime...n/photostream/

    Which is a rip-off of Jenni Lou's wallpaper: http://fractured-simplicity.net/dayd...e.php?pid=1744

    and

But I have to add, I have looked at the stuff in that Flickr album more thoroughly now that I'm home, and found one more stolen piece:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/sublime...in/photostream
The original belongs Vrya (you might remember her awesome tutorials, if not her art):
    http://vrya.net/ts/popup.php?artid=236

Also, I recognized Jenni Lou's texture that's reposted as "wallpaper":
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/sublime...in/photostream
    http://fractured-simplicity.net/dayd...lurs/stars.jpg

And I'm 90% sure this one's Jenni Lou's older texure as well, but she doesn't have on the site any more:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/sublime...in/photostream
(Though, even if it's not JL's, it is still stolen because I used to have it ages ago, long before this person appeared on the internet.)

She has a DeviantArt and Flickr accounts that have lots of "goodies" to peruse. All of her wallpapers have strange sized pictures that look really really enlarged so I wouldn't be surprised if she has done this multiple times over with other wallpapers.

    Thank you for the help!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Bre. I recieved a message on my tagboard today asking for affiliation. I declined on her tagboard and told her I do not associate with known Fanart Thieves.

Also, some of those flicker links posted above no longer work, but the piece you showed of her theft for your Bangel wall still appears on her site. I looked through her flicker and site and did not notice any more pieces to mention. Although, most of those vectors/textures do not look like she is capable of creating them based on the rest of her art...

Thanks for checking! I gave her this list because she insisted that we didn't have proof and I think she's gone through and deleted what was up there. *shakes head*

As Ehl pointed out on my tagboard, she deleted comments on her tagboard and actually took the thing off but not before banning Kiera and I. Alas, Ehl was awesome to post this:

It's just cool to have up there for people to see. *g* I'm so proud of our tight community! *smishes you all*

She took her tagboard down completely. LOL She asked me to affiliate earlier today and I was just about to say yes before all this was brought to my attention. So glad you guys saw your stuff on her site 'cause I sure as hell don't want to be afffiliated in any shape way or form with a thief!! I was gonna leave her a big HELL NO on her tagboard but it's gone. LOL I also noticed she deleted her Flickr account.

the dead giveaway is the little sparklies by Buffy's head. They aren't part of the cap, and were a stock image I used. I emailed her. I'm sure I'll get banned too . oh and she didn't take any of the stolen work off of her photobucket, in case you wanna save em for proof. http://s996.photobucket.com/albums/a...blimedesigns1/

this wall looks very familiar but I can't place it. I'm sure someone here knows who it belongs to http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...APERS/spb2.jpg

That's Wendy's. I KNEW I'd seen it before, but I couldn't find it on her site, but I did manage to track it down at Wallflowers:

    http://www.the-elite-archives.com/wa...21-01-1024.jpg

If you look REALLY closely at the copied piece, you can still see Wendy's text through whatever she's done to cover it up. This is just disgraceful. She hasn't even TRIED to make it look different.

I thought it was hers! I went and checked her site but it didn't even occur to me to check Wallflowers! *facepalm*

btw, this one is Beth (Ann)'s http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/a...PERS/angb2.jpg. she removed Ann's sig and slapped her own on it.

Email sent. I'm not as nice as you are but I didn't cuss her out either! SHOCKING RIGHT? I think I'm growing as a person lol. I did mention that our community is tightly knit and we all know each other's work so it will never go under the radar. I also let her know that deleting the art won't help as I have already saved it. Andsaid that no one is going to want to affiliate with her if she keeps up this behavior, and it's a real shame because we welcome new artists with open arms.

I literally spent an hour last night checking all of my affiliates because I KNEW that belonged to someone I knew, and it was really starting to get to me because I couldn't find it. It was only when I got online this evening that I thought to check Wallflowers. I feel like such an idiot for not doing that in the first place, lol.

    Bwuahahahaha... I suck. Thanks y'all!!
This is what I sent her:
This is in response to your request to affiliate. It's come to my attention that some of the artwork on your page is fabricated and/or stolen. I'm sorry, but no, I do not affiliate with thieves. The online art community is a small world, and word travels pretty quickly. I highly suggest you take down the stolen/copies pieces from your site if you ever expect to have any respect in the fanart community.

I'm glad you found that was Wendy's piece, Lyri, because it was bothering me how familiar it was. My first guess was Nikki, but her wall of the scene was different.

And I didn't see the obsessed's wall earlier! She has such a classic design that is easy to recognize!

I'm always shocked at how thieves know what they are doing and then lie about it and try to make other people out to be villains. Taking off someone's tag, replacing it with yours, and then telling others to not remove your tag or alter the art shows how the person knows what they are doing is wrong but doesn't care and thinks they are better than others.

I even felt bad last night thinking that she doesn't realize how she shouldn't cut up anothers wallpaper to make her own. As always, I'm too kind a fool.

On all accounts, my thoughts EXACTLY!

I also find it appalling if they actually do admit that they are stealing others work and tell their victims they should be flattered and honored that their work is so good they would claim it as their own. Yes, this has actually happened to me before. I don't understand what anyone would find honoring about someone else trying to claim their hard work as their own, and then display rules on their sites about not doing the same exact thing! Can you even imagine...a theft of a theft? Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if that hasn't already happened at some point. I wish someone that has committed such acts of Fanart theft would really explain their thought process, cause I just don't get it.

Agreed. Their logic is not of this earth and I really don't want it to be I don't... get why they think that's okay. And then in her case take the time to claim she's been doing art for 25 years and that she's terribly experienced and just doing this for fun... I don't get it. On top of that, why does she think blowing up the wallpapers to the sizes she does look okay? ...

WHAT AN EVIL PERSON! Boika Twin, I already told you on your tagboard WHY our wallpapers are combined, But I didn't even realize she had taken Beth's wallpaper either, I didn't see that - how shockingly pathetic and obvious. She did the same thing she did with Jenni Lou's wallpaper on Wendy's, she just blew it up so the text wouldn't be seen.

Argh. I tried to be nice to her too - exactly what Ehlwyen said, benefit of the doubt. I thought maybe she found a bunch of stuff on Google and didn't realize. Oh puh-leaze.

That is the email I used when I sent that to her but she claims that she didn't get it - HA! I hope she responds to one of you. And then we can continue to mock her and find more crap she has stolen.

    I'm through being nice to her because of this lovely little update which I'm posting here because she will undoubtedly take her site down at some point;

    Spoiler:
    - Thanks to Amber's brilliantness... updated with the real screenshot before she closed down

It's a shame how abusers try to emotionally reverse roles. If someone accused me of something that's not how I would go about "clearing my name". And why would anyone quit something they loved because of people on the Internet?

    And the hate is appalling.

Bre and Erin, as baffled as I am by the thought process, I'm not sure if I want to understand the logic of people that lie, steal, and hate.

Honestly, I am I mean, that's a "mature adult" right there? oh geez. And our community is the "inconsiderate" one? JFC.

This is why I get more amused than angry at theft. Their responses when caught are priceless.

I didn't even cuss at her either! Honestly I think I deserve an award for that. You guys know how much I love to curse I was cordial in my email. The rudest tihng I said was that it was "uncool."

I've been called a lot of things in my day, but this is just HILARIOUS to me. OMG remember when Justin FLIPPED OUT when he got caught? good times.... good times.
