On BW, we used to have Superlatives a couple of times a year. Now we have a new forum and all, I was hoping that we could have another one. Ben (Blasterboy) and I can run it, unless the people that usually run it want to. I just thought I'd post here first, to see if we can have a one. :D

OK, I was absent on BW for a couple years. What is the Superlatives? :p

The Superlatives is like an award thing. People give nominations for certain categories, like, Best Buffy Fan, Most Active Member, Most Helpful Member, Most Improved Artist, Best Virtual Season, Best Writer, Best Virtual Season Writer, etc., etc. There's stuff for every section of the forum, and I mean every, even VIP. There's stuff like "Most Afraid To Venture In VIP Section" or the opposite way. That's what it is. I'm pretty sure Heather and Alex did it last year. I may be wrong, though.

Oh, it's the awards thing. Alrighty. I had no idea it had this name. We just called it the awards when I was over there so many years ago. Ah, memories.... Thanks for the response. :)

I think it would be good to bring back, since BF has never had one yet. And like I said, Ben and I would be happy to do it. Just thought we'd better post here first

Lol yep in our time it used to be the BW Awards, I remember Ben making that wall with everyone's faces on it.. I think I probably still have it somewhere

Yep Superlatives would be a good idea on BFN :)

I see that you already started a Suggestion thread (http://www.buffyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=982)for categories in the Miscellaneous section. I'm assuming that the nominations haven't started and that just category suggestions are happening?

You may also want to talk to Heather to see if she has any suggestions or contributions. She's done it each time so she should know the ins and outs of it. :D

Yeah. People that want to add categories can...since we need more categories! Yeah, I was going to PM her later...:D

Nominations start on the 27th...but I'm thinking that may be too long.

HOLLA! *Is straight up G, yo* :p We SERIOUSLY need a smiley with a grill...

Sorry, I spotted this, saw my name, and dashed in. :p My suggestions to you would be, much like other people's in the past, to keep the category list NOT super long and not super detailed. Like, don't get all specific and over the top with things. Specific "Biggest Fan" will make the list too long for the votes and for you since you have more work to do. Keep it simple: "Biggest [Insert SHOW Here] Fan" for the show ones. Though I think if you get a little more detailed for the Jossverse shows, that'd be fine. This IS [I]BuffyForums, afterall. :p

Other than that...Keep the deadlines spread out by like, 2 weeks a piece. And, from one Superlative runner to another, DON'T try and set a general date for when results will be posted because it'll take WAY longer than you think. Trust me. :p

OH! And clear out your Inbox. Like completely. Save the important PMs in a Word Document or some other way. This way, your inbox won't constantly fill up when you get nominations and whatnot.

ANNNNNNND...That's all. :) Good luck! Hope you have fun running it! I know I'll have fun actually nominating in it this time around! :p

Thanks for the tips, Heatha!

I see what you mean with the specifics. I think we still need to add a little more categories, but not more than 10-15.

Yeah, I remember you guys trying to set a date! Twas amusing.

Thanks, Heather! I know we'll have fun!

Yeah, thanks Heather

Well, I've put, Biggest 'Ship' fans, for some. Not many though  And for SN, biggest Dean fan and Biggest Sam fan, since there wasn't many categories for SN.

There are a few categories for 'General' like last year. I remember someone hoping that they wouldn't win, 'Most annoying Member' award for the second year in a row

But I'm taking your advice. So there wont be as many categories, I'm going to shorten the deadline for category nominations. Ben can decide that :D

I see what you mean with the specifics. I think we still need to add a little more categories, but not more than 10-15.

That's actually not that many. 20-30 (sounds like a lot, but it isn't) is the ideal amount because then there are more chances for more people to win. Because it's garunteed that some people will win more the one category. This way, there can be more variety. ;)

Well, I've put, Biggest 'Ship' fans, for some. Not many though  And for SN, biggest Dean fan and Biggest Sam fan, since there wasn't many categories for SN.

Right, the Ships are always there. They're unavoidable. We've got heavy competition in all those Shipper categories, too, usually. :p But my thoughts on the SN one was simply that, if you're doing that for SN you'll wanna do that for Heroes and Smallville since they're always widely discussed shows on the forum. So it's best to keep those to just "Biggest Supernatural Fan" and "Biggest Heroes Fan" and "Biggest Smallville" fan and "Biggest [Insert Other Show] Fan." That way it's fair and not really biased amongst the other shows.

There are a few categories for 'General' like last year. I remember someone hoping that they wouldn't win, 'Most annoying Member' award for the second year in a row

General might actually be the biggest category because it's more broad and ABOUT the forum, not the shows. I suggest having quite a few different categories here so that we get variety. I know when I did it with other people (the SUPERLATIVES, you dirty perverts...), we weren't very...original and didn't have that much variety (...PERVERTS!). So yeah. And try to stay away from negative ones. ;)

Is there a way to encourage people to vote/nominate who might be a little shy? I know in the past I haven't known as many people as I do now, and I remember what it was like, not being vip. I guess I was thinking in terms of those global watchamacallits that Nikki sent out from time to time on BW, but better ideas would be good too.
This is our new home, many people are newish, many people are elsewhere, would be good for really everyone to be involved.

Well, I think this is a way to get new members to get people to be more active in the forum, actually. Something big happening here.

It would be nice if, near the nomination/voting time, Nikki would send out a Global Announcement for people to know about this.

Gah! Sorry I didn't get to this earlier! I was in Seattle and just got back like right now >.>

I was going to start Superlatives this October so things settled a bit... but I guess if you guys have it set to go you can go ahead :/

If you want I can tell you what kind of things I had planned to change about these superlatives I spose. There were some tweaks I discussed with various members to make it go smoother/fairer.

And yes, we would love some tips, if you don't mind.....:( :( :(

Would Nikki please make an announcement for it, since nominations are going on and it's a big thing for this forum. Would you, please?
