View Full Version : International Buffy

This is a little game I came up with...
I'm french, and in France, they didn't just translate Buffy's episodes's titles, 80% of the time they created new ones, so the game is (here it only concerns unamericans members) to take a french, spanish, japonese title and translate him in english and (here it concerns evreyone) trying to guess of which episode it corresponds...I hope i'm clear...I'm gonna give an example: in France, "Sleeper" was called "Ca a commencé" which means "It began", so I would have give you "It began" and you would have to find it's the "Sleeper" episode. I think it's a funny way to embrace all the cultures on the Buffy Forum and maybe learn some words...
Okay I'll start
"Tous contre Buffy": "Everyone against Buffy"...
Life Serial ( I originally thought 'empty places but according o a reliable source (my French mate nick) I am wrong)
'Lad det komme fra hjertet' in danish meaning 'Let it come from the heart'
Wild at Heart?
I have no idea if I'm right or not, so somebody else can post the next title, because my foreign languages consist of Oui and monsieur...
well in that case I will answer with an easy 'non'
Pandora's_Box
24-07-07, 03:17 AM
Good answer it is Life Serial...
For the danish title I have a good feeling for Passion..
nein... think more of what comes from the heart - emotions which can also be known as something else beginning with the letter 'F'
Pandora's_Box
24-07-07, 02:07 PM
Oh of course: Once More with Feeling
Pandora's_Box
24-07-07, 05:18 PM
"La nouvelle petite soeur": "The new little sister"
redrevo
24-07-07, 05:48 PM
Real Me.
"Die Nacht der lebenden Leichen" is German for "The night of the living corpses"
Pandora's_Box
24-07-07, 07:08 PM
I guess Dead Man's Party but Real me isn't the good answer (kind of a trap, the episode is pre-Dawn, it could be simpler to wait the confirmation before posting a new title:p )
If It's pre-dawn the only person I can think of that may be little sisterlike is faith and therefore I'll go with Faith hope and trick
Edit: It could also be Kendra from What's My Line - Part One.
redrevo
25-07-07, 01:08 AM
Oh boy, pre-Dawn? I'm going with Hush, just for wackiness and because there's that dream with the little girl...
Pandora's_Box
25-07-07, 01:45 AM
And we have a winner...It is Faith, Hope and Trick...So redrevo, about your title, is that Dead Man's Party ?
redrevo
25-07-07, 02:07 AM
No, it isn't but I think it's spidol's turn anyway so I'm just going to wait for him to post if you don't mind.
kay then... 'Was ware, wenn...' in german, meaning 'what if'
Pandora's_Box
25-07-07, 02:29 AM

Think to something more obvious "Blood Ties"....it's a common reference to what ?
redrevo
01-08-07, 05:43 PM
Family...?
Pandora's_Box
01-08-07, 10:35 PM
Bingo...They (French) called that one "Blood Ties" so when the episode actually called "Blood Ties" came along...wow big problem, so they called it "La clé" The Key"
Ok Redrevo, your turn
redrevo
02-08-07, 03:37 AM
"Das Angebot" is German for "The Offer"
Pandora's_Box

Pandora's_Box
02-08-07, 09:57 PM
Oh yes...I think you got it...
redrevo
02-08-07, 10:05 PM

Pandora's_Box
03-08-07, 12:41 AM

guess again
Pandora's_Box
03-08-07, 01:25 AM
Bingo...actually it "La cérémonie Part I" and "La cérémonie part II"
So I guess you're still american...right ?
So I'll go with another title
"Le bal de fin d'année" not a litteral translation because...tough, so I guess the nearest translation have to be "The Prom"
redrevo
03-08-07, 04:13 AM
"The dance of the end of the year"?
Ok...
Ignoring the obvious, I'm thinking Prophecy Girl.
Veverka
03-08-07, 06:46 AM
Homecoming?
Pandora's_Box
03-08-07, 01:28 PM
Oh, you speaks french redrevo ?
When I said tough it was because "fin d'année" means literaly "end of the year" you're right but in that particular expression "fin d'année" means in fact "fin de l'année scolaire"....
It is Homecoming.....So what the fu** is going on, why does this episode is called "the dance of the end of school year", it a mistake french translators did, becaus in France we don't have a Prom, actually we don't have Homecoming as well, or football team, or cheerleaders, or chess club, or Graduation Day or School paper or May Queen....well. When they saw the king and queen and the coronation, they probably thought it was the Prom so they call it "The Dance of the end of school year" except this is the fifth episode of the season so probably November...well huge mistake so "The Prom" was called "Evil Dogs"...
Pandora's_Box
03-08-07, 04:02 PM
Are you american Veverka, if you're not, it's your turn to give a title...
Veverka
04-08-07, 05:32 AM
ooh... I'm aussie... but have some german box sets... not with me so i can't guarentee this is correct "Ohne Buffy Lebt's sich Laenger". Translation: without Buffy one lives longer...

The Wish?
Because, you know the master is still alive.
Veverka
05-08-07, 01:33 PM
Also a good guess... think like... Without Buffy One Lives Longer... it's very impersonal, like its not about our close friends...
Pandora's_Box
05-08-07, 01:45 PM
Oh, is it "Never Kill A Boy On The First Date" ?
Veverka

Pandora's_Box
22-08-07, 05:26 PM
The game looks kinda dead....I'm gonna try to bring it to life
