Yep it's finally back. It will be hosted by Thomas (Thomas), Alex (Magnetic Duty), Ben (BlasterBoy)and I (Pandora's_Box).
For those who don't know, The Superlatives is the ceremony awarding the members of BuffyForums, either for their work, attitude, humor or something else. It's the very time of the year to show some love to the community. I'm expecting huge response!! IS THAT CLEAR??!!!

First step and probably the biggest one, we have to decide which the categories are gonna be. I remember last year's ceremony went all kablooey due to the enormous amount of categories (almost a hundred if I'm recalling), so this year we should restrict to 20, 30 categories top.

Here are some categories I thought about:

General:
- Funniest Member
- Friendliest Member
- Favorite Member's Username
- Favorite Member's Profile

Forum:
- Favorite Debater
- Favorite "Opening Threader"
- Most "I-Have-No-Life-Outside-The-VIP-Section" Member

Fanart:
- Most Improved Fanartist
- Favorite Fanart New-Comer
- Favorite Fanartist
- Favorite Challenge
- Favorite Challenge Awards

Fanfiction:
- Most Improved Fanfictioner
- Favorite Fanfiction New-Comer
- Favorite Fanfictioner
- Favorite Challenge

Games:
- Favorite Game Creator
- Favorite Game
- Favorite Game Buddy

Now is time for suggestions: Is this Category a good idea? What do you think of this one? What about that?...be inspired.
I'm also recruiting fanartist to do the awards.

Let the game begin!!

It will be? I didn't know that haha! I guess I can help a little, but not a lot :p

Um, about the categories, I really think we should have more Fanfiction and Fanart categories. Fanart, I think we should have "Most Improved". And I think we could probably take out "Best Fanart Challenge Awards" :s You get an award for making the best awards? I don't know, might just be me, but I think it's weird haha.

For Fanfiction, we should probably have "Best Virtual Season", "Best Original Character", etc. The VS section is pretty big for Fanfiction, so we should have some categories for that.

And, in past years, we had:

"Biggest Buffy Fan"
"Biggest Angel Fan"
"Biggest Firefly Fan"
"Biggest Smallville Fan"
"Biggest Supernatural Fan"
"Biggest Heroes Fan"

Maybe? :s

You didn't...Oopsie
I agree about "Most Improved" since I don't think it's the same as "Fanart New-Comer" but we should definetely keep "Fanart Challenge Awards" since it's an important part of a challenge. About the fanfiction I'm trusting you as I don't really spend time in that section...
About the biggest Buffy fan, biggest Angel fan, biggest Smallville fan, I don't really see the point.

I agree. I think that "Best Fanart Challenge" is enough. People can factor in the concept, the awards, the punctuality, or whatever they like. I think that Best Awards is a tiny but unnecessary - especially there's concern about there being too many categories in the long run.

Just my two cents.

Other than that, we should probably have a few goofy ones under "General" and, in previous years, we've had "VIP" and "Newbie" sections with a few categories underneath them. I think the Superlatives should feature some of those types of categories. Think like it's a high school yearbook. "Most Innocent," "Most Likely to Succeed," "Most Likely to Make a Baby Before They Graduate," etc...etc...

About the biggest Buffy fan, biggest Angel fan, biggest Smallville fan, I don't really see the point.

We've done those categories because it just goes with the forum. They're difficult to vote for but they're worth it in the long run. It gets people looking through those forums, readin old posts, getting interested in discussions...It's especially appropriate with the new seasons starting up - to get people's heads back in the game. Personally, I think that those categories are the most important when it comes to the non-"General"/"Fun" ones.

I will definitley be voting in these awards. but for my two cents, I would like to see more fun lighthearted categories like mentioned above.

LMFAO. I only WISH my high school had that one.

Will we have to vote in all of the categories? I mean, I don't read fanfiction for example, so I wouldn't know who to vote for in that, etc.....:s

Here are a few I think we should use:

Most Obsessive Buffy Fan
Most Obsessive Angel Fan
Most Obsessive Firefly/Serenity Fan
Biggest Shipper

Most Obsessive [Insert Show*] Fan
Most Obsessive [Insert Show*] Fan
Most Obsessive [Insert Show*] Fan
Most Obsessive [Insert Show*] Fan
Most Obsessive Fan Period

*Comes down to whatever shows have the section whenever the awards start.

Best Artist - Though, I think this could just be saved for the Art Awards

26 total, but honestly, I think it's going to have to go over 30. It sounds like a lot, but when looking at it, it's really not. Especially since you don't have to vote for everyone.

Also, when should we do the awards? Honestly, I think the winners should be announced in December. That way, it's the end of the year and in future awards, we can have that entire year to work with. Plus, the winner will have bragging rights all that year. Though, November/December is holiday season, but if we get votes in by November, we'd have about a month/month and a half to tally the votes.

With those four categories, that makes it a 30.

Shouldn't we add those to the fanfiction category...?

About the ceremony, I was thinking of September for the vote and the awards design and the results at the end of September or early October. That makes it like a school year, plus with The Chosen Awards, The Champion Awards, The Zeppo Awards and The AFA Ceremony, it's almost the only time available.

People have other suggestions or ideas?? About categories or dates?

So is this a definitive list now? Has it been decided that these are the categories? Do you want us to vote now?

Sorry, just a bit confused

Oh no, we're still discussing on and Thomas's list is more close to be it than mine.
The thread is still opened for ideas.

Well I think the the crazier the title categories, the less serious it is. That makes it more fun, easier to vote, and less likely anyone will be offended.

For example, instead of friendliest:
Member most likely to give you the shirt off your back.

Ooh which leads to sexiest:

Member you most want to give you the shirt off your back.

As far as member profiles:

Member profile color scheme that repeatedly dazzles and leaves you stunned for minutes!

Username you most wish you could steal and claim as your own.

The wackier the better, because the descriptiveness gives a basis upon which members can evaluate rather than the daunting nature of weighing what makes something favorite or best.

I see a good point here, we could try funny titles, though I think this should not concern fanart and fanfiction categories as the vote would be more professional than subjective...

Most Obsessive Supernatural Fan
Most Obsessive Heroes Fan
Most Obsessive Twilight Fan

For fanfic there seems to be a lot for VS's but not a lot specifically for the one off writers. I know it would make for a bit of crowding but could i suggest:-

Best Drabble
Best Fic under 3000 words
Best fic over 3000 words

I like all those ones IMO. They have the right balance of fun in them and have enough categories for all kinds of members. Whereas before it seemed like there was more categories targeting fanfiction and fanart which deserve it, don't get me wrong, but makes it hard for all the members who do neither. :)

I like all the above suggestions - plus your original suggestions Pandora - because not all of us write fan-fiction, create fan art, debate (hate debating), etc. That way you will have more folks included in the vote and they're fun!:D

Yea I think we should begin to start voting In mid-September or beginning of October. Votes should be in by Oct 31. and the winners could be announced on Christmas or sometime in December
