It took me a good long while to try to come up with something for a new challenge and it finally hit me the other night After seeing cable repeat the movie 'Seven' about a billion times, I thought it would be cool to do a challenge based around our favorite fandoms and the seven deadly sins.

For reference, they are as follows:

Lust is usually thought of as involving obsessive or excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. Unfulfilled lusts sometimes lead to sexual or sociological compulsions and/or transgressions including (but obviously not limited to) sexual addiction, adultery, rape, etc.

Gluttony is derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste.

Greed is, like lust and gluttony, a sin of excess. Behaviors include disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason, especially for personal gain, for example through bribery . Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery, especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be inspired by greed.

Sloth originally, its place was fulfilled by two other aspects, acedia and sadness. The former described a spiritual apathy that affected the faithful by discouraging them from their religious work. Sadness (tristitia in Latin) described a feeling of dissatisfaction or discontent, which caused unhappiness with one's current situation. The modern view of the vice, as highlighted by its contrary virtue of zeal or diligence, is that it represents the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts. For example, a student who does not work beyond what is required (and thus fails to achieve his or her full potential) could be labeled slothful.

Wrath may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger. These feelings can manifest as vehement denial of the truth, both to others and in the form of self-denial, impatience with the procedure of law, and the desire to seek revenge outside of the workings of the justice system and generally wishing to do evil or harm to others. The transgressions borne of vengeance are among the most serious, including murder, assault, and in extreme cases, genocide.

Envy like greed, is characterized by an insatiable desire; they differ, however, for two main reasons. First, greed is largely associated with material goods, whereas envy may apply more generally. Second, those who commit the sin of envy desire something that someone else has which they perceive themselves as lacking.

Pride is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and indeed the ultimate source from which the others arise. It is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to give compliments to others though they may be deserving of them, and excessive love of self.

One thing about this challenge - try not to use things relate directly to the sins, such as the movie Seven or the Supernatural episode "The Magnificant Seven". I hope that's not too confusing; I just think it would WAY too easy to use those things and want you to be creative.

Well this thing literally kicked my ass. I had a perfect image of what I wanted it to look like in my head and as soon as I put my caps onto the canvas everything went to hell in a hand bag. :down: I finally got it to look half decent and I thought since I just wasted a good portion of my life trying to make this thing I might as well post it. :xd BTW are we able to focus on just one of the sins or do we have to do them all?

Explanation spoiled just because it's sort of long since I wasn't sure how I was supposed to explain. :s :lol:
Okay so I did the 7 deadly sins with the Buffy characters. As I was reading the descriptions of what all the sins were, I pictured all the caps I was going to use which was nice; you know, knowing what kind of caps I was looking for. :lol: I had meant to put "gluttony" as a big cap and have tiny ones off to the sides because I thought Buffy gulping down the milk would have been the perfect main focus but alas, it didn't work out that way. Oh well, I still got to use that cap though. :D I chose Faith/Buffy in Enemies for "envy" because Faith goes off on Buffy about how she has everything; "The watcher, the little scooby gang. What do I get? Jack squat." "Sloth" was sort of a hard one. I didn't know if I wanted to do the modern form of the sin or the old but I ended up doing the old. Buffy + coming back from the dead = depressed/hating her life. Perfect for sloth. I used when Warren stole the diamond for "greed" and I used Dark!Willow for "wrath". Although Photobucket ended up resizing my wall so Dark Willow looks TINY!!! :cussing: I used the attempted rape scene from Seeing Red to show "lust". Last but not least for "pride" I chose Buffy getting kicked out of her own house in Empty Places.

(FYI, Photobucket resized this since it was in 1280 format so everything looks a lot smaller than it was originally. ;) )

I thought I'd address this question in the thread as it seems one more than just you may have. No, you don't need to address ALL of the sins in one piece. In fact, that hadn't even crossed my mind, but you certainly may if you like. You can focus on just one as well.

Entry one:
I believe this will be (or is ^^) an awesome challenge, and I love the idea :D.

This is a Smallville piece, with Oliver/ Green Arrow. He is a golden boy, multimillionaire. However he has kind of taken the law in his own hands, and is the superhero (he counts as that, doesn't he?), Green Arrow in addition. Therefore at the same time as he is dealing with wrath, and punishing "evil", he is doing something good, quite the opposite to sloth actually. He is using all of his abilities (which only is an exeptionally talent at archery), but also all of his resources to fight evil. In addition I aldo think he kind of started because of vengeance, didn't he? Anyway with this piece I wanted to show that he takes matters into his own hands, and doesn't stand and watch (as he tends to nag at Clark for doing). Anyway I think he is cool :xd (and quite good looking :p, and yes I am a tad tired at the moment ^^).

back in the day, i was awarded the opportunity to host a monthly challenge at an alias forum and i actually had the exact same challenge theme of 7 deadly sins; though i'd never seen the movie before. so my entry is based on Alias, episode 2x13 Phase One, where Sydney Bristow goes undercover as 'the female friend' of a man that lives on board a plane to protect server 47. anyway, the man has greed for food and women...and in the end gets what he deserves, by being sucked out of the plane and into the turbine, courtesy of Syd.

Envy.
Fairly straight forward. If you know BtVS and Angel you'd know that Faith has or had issues with Buffy, and a lot of that comes from her being envious of Buffy's life... things like her loving family, good friends etc. So this seemed an obvious choice.. plus there's this cool shot of Eliza holding a knife looking very pensive.. which works really well behind Buffy, looking all pretty and happy. Tried to play the contrasts... but without it becoming a little too dark.

Okay, so I just finished watching Lost 2x08 "Collision", and it's my fav eppy to date. So, I thought I'd do a piece about Ana-Lucia's anger and "wrath" on the island, and one about her anger and "wrath" while she's off the island. I used my boxy style, cause I like it :lol: The text is from Gandalf Murphy, because she really does have a broken heart. I have a line through broken to show that it's...well, ya know...BROKEN :p And I showed her "I don't know what to do!", her killing Shannon, her seeing Shannon, her taking Sayid, etc. It's all about her: Ana-Lucia, and the things she did.

Yeah, I kinda hate this piece. This was Ana-Lucia in the real world killing the person that put four bullets in her earlier. While shooting him, she reveals that she was pregnant by screaming, "I WAS PREGNANT" ;) That gives it away, right? :lol: I had too little caps, too much light, etc. I don't really like the way it came out.

Entry 2

Okay so I've spent two days on just the text alone and I'm still not happy with it. but I give up at this point 'cause I'm highly irritated. :down: I did this one on Lust with Buffy and Spike again. It's pretty much a continuation of the one cap in my first entry. I used the Lyrics from Sugarcult's song Pretty Girl. It ended up nowhere near what it looked like when I started. It seems that I'm pulling a Benjamin with the frames, as well as a Jenni Lou with the red and black blotches. :lol: Had no intention to do that but again, it doesn't look how I wanted it to look so...

(It's another 1280 so photobucket shrunk it but it doesn't look as shrunk as my last entry so I left it. :p )

Lust... I think all humans who's lived past being a teen-ager is going to Hell if this is true, but I could be wrong :xd

It's actually kind of funny that I chose to art this TV-show because I've seen, uhm..., one episode - the first one. I bought it yesterday. On the other hand, I've found myself in this "Tudors-period" (family, not series;)) and the relationship between Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn intrigues me. The way I understand it, he became close to obsessed with her - so much that he more or less made up grounds for divorce from his first wife and broke off with Rome! This last thing changed England forever and was the first step in England becoming a "Protestant nation" (you get my drift). Anyway, he did all this and then some for a woman. If that's not lust I don't know what (well, I guess it could've been love too, but where's the fun in that? Also, love without lust? Ha! Boring...).

Now, I was saving Tudors pictures (because I really liked that first episode^^) and I came across this picture. It was perfect for this challenge! I loved how dangerous it looked. I wanted to enhance that burning intensity, the lust if you may, in my piece. I went for strong and passionate colours as well as flames. For me the flames primarily stands for two things; How they are both consumed and, in the end, destroyed by their passions (I base this on the things I've read in history books and not the show, because as I mentioned - I haven't actually seen much). Moreover, because this is a challenge about the Deadly Sins, the flames are prophetic and shows what awaits them - Hell.

I'm gonna try to enter 7 pieces, each one using a bible reference of the sin, starting with wrath.
I picked Dark Willow since she only existed because of wrath and even if the character is more or less funny and calm, it reeks of wrath. As I said below, the text is from the bible: Psalm 69:24. I think it suits Dark Willow pretty well.

I wonder how many entries you're gonna get from me, because I'm already working on another one! In case you haven't noticed, I love this challenge. Especially since it fits my newest obsession like a glove :D Because even though Henry VIII was super Catholic he commited like every Deadly Sin except sloth :lol:

Pride... Henry VIII was very proud, he was a king, he could do just about anything he wanted - it's hard not to get full of yourself in that position! Either way, in this piece I wanted primarly to show his view of himself. He's the best, he's above everybody else. With the exception of the pope, he's the closest thing to a god you can come on earth. You get the drift. Secondly, I wanted to show how he objectifies women. Mostly, they don't mean much to him, he constantly gets new mistresses and when he's tired of them he simply "stop calling them to his chambers" and gets a new one. Again, he thinks himslef above them - he's the king and they're just some woman. He's full of pride.

Inspiration: It's a JJ/Jenni Lou combo, honestly. So thank you both for the inspiration!

I'm gonna spoiler tag the explanation because it's kinda long-ish and so that people who haven't seen 2.24 of "The O.C." won't be spoiled by the details - though it aired years ago.

My entry is from second season finale of "The O.C." and is, in my opinion, the most intense and powerful and amazing scene that the show has ever done (though I haven't seen the last half of season 3 or a couple episodes of season 4 yet...). In it, Ryan (the blonde guy without the gun) finds out that his brother, Trey (the dark haired guy with the gun), attempted to rape Marissa, Ryan's girlfriend. Ryan's a very violent guy and tends to react with his fists so it's expected that this reveal will drive him over the edge. He goes to Trey's apartment and they begin to fight. Trey pulls a gun on Ryan, Ryan knocks the gun to the floor as they fight, and Trey gets his hands around Ryan's throat, choking him.

Marissa storms into the apartment, after finding out that Ryan was on his way to Trey's, and finds Trey choking Ryan. She screams at him and tries to pull him off but that doesn't help. She spots Trey's gun, grabs it, aims, and blasts Trey in the back - saving Ryan's life.

The second that the gun goes off, "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap (one of the most beautiful songs ever, in my opinion) immediately starts to play. That's why I used it as the text and because I felt that the lyrics I used were really appropriate for what's going on.

As for the wrath element in the piece? Well, the uncontrollable anger that Ryan's feeling when he and Trey are fighting - and the anger that Trey lets loose when he's strangling Ryan - is the driving force of the scene and it's what forces Marissa to shoot to Trey.

Such fantastic entries so far, people! I'm really enjoying watching this challenge as the pieces come rolling in! :D Good luck to everyone and good luck to Lady Manson for having to judge all the brilliant entries so far!

I feel riddiculus! But what can I do? (Well, I could stop posting entries in this challenge but what's the fun in that?) I have too much free time now that I have no school and everybody's flown away...

Wrath
OK, so this piece is just really simple and I don't actually like it - but as you might've noticed I'm more or less gonna art all the Sins (if I have time:lol:) Anyhow, this piece basically show Henry tearing up a room after having signed a treaty with the franch king (whom he doesn't like - he's french!). If you're wondering about the whole "he's red" thing there is a logical (uhm...) explanation for that. See, the piece used to be blue-ish, but then I came across a gradient that made him red and he looked so much angrier. Furthermore, for me red is passion and the kind of hate and anger Henry feels in this piece is only passion, there are no "logical" motives behind his anger and frustration really. Ah well, I guess you're getting tired of Henry VIII? Yeah, I would too... (Except I'm obviously not :lol:)

Entry four
I have a problem. And knowing you have a problem is the first step right? Anyway, I just can't seem to be able to stay away from the Deadly Sins! It's impossible! You simply created too fun of a challenge...

Either how, I'm quite proud of myself now because I actually managed to get all the sins into the piece! :2party: I found this amazing promo where all the characters in (surprise!) The Tudors is sitting around a dinner table. Then I had this fabulous idea that I'd put (uhm, fun?) little thinking boxes from each person to show what they're thinking. Since all characters (except Thomas More) is more or less "bad" and there were eight characters (inkluding More) I had the even better idea that each person would be commiting a Deadly Sin! :D I made two versions, one where the person is "tagged" with the sin they're commiting and one without, I just couldn't make up my mind which I liked best... The one thing that might need some clearing up what it is they're thinking about are these: "Look at that cleavage. Can't believe Brandon got away with it..." and "I'll let him think I've forgiven him for marrying my sister. I'll get him back somehow.". Both are refering to that the king's "best friend" Charles Brandon (to the far right) secretly married the king's sister (woman in red to the left) - without the king's consent. The king was not a little upset when he found out...

Gah! I love these sins! :lol: That sounds silly. The first thing that popped into my mind for wrath was the ballet studio scene from the sneak peak of Twilight from the MTV Movie Awards. First, *gah!* Second, there is wrath all over this scene, both from Edward (James targeting and attacking the love of his eternal life, Bella) and from James (tracking a human, desiring her blood). I wanted to show this from Edward's POV mostly, because of the passion and the direct nature of his anger towards James and what he's doing, so I included a larger cap of him, but I didn't want to lose James' feelings in the mess either, so I showed him getting up on Edward as well as stalking Bella with the camera. Bella's involvement is mostly to show that she is pretty much the main catalyst for the events that lead to this moment. The colors and the grunginess and the extreme sharpness in some parts were meant to show the feeling literally, the black and white of the feeling: hatred, and who you hate. And who better to use than Tool for the lyrics? :p

I can't think of a character more envious in the Buffyverse than Faith. I picked the last scene of WAY, with both girls fighting because I think it portrays the best Faith's envy. She's punching herself to keep being someone else. Always loved that, she's ready to give up on herself in order to be Buffy. If that's not envy...!!

I don't usually think of lust when I think of Xander and Willow...I think of the seven, Xander is most guilty of envy and his desire for whatever he can't have. But this one scene in band candy always makes me think of lust...imo it's the sexiest scene between the two.

So, I was desperate to make some Twilight related art, and I was flicking through the sins trying to think of one to do for this challenge and none really stuck out until I got to pride. I instantly thought of an extract I'd read on Stephenie Meyer's official site, which she wrote from Rosalie's POV. In it, Rosalie briefly describes her good looks, acknowledging that she might well be shallow and selfish, but loving herself & her good looks anyway. Pride, much? :P So I made this.

Okay, so, this is ENVY with Buffy and Spike from "Fool For Love". Spike is jealous of Buffy and will do anything to be with her and just touch her. Also, Spike will do anything to gain Buffy's love, even if it takes killing her. I think it's very interesting take on Envy, so I used that. It's darker and red because of that reason, and it's just a little piece....enjoy!

Envy... Most people feel this every once in a while. We want to be like someone, we want to have something that somebody else has. This piece is not (!) a Tudors piece. I know, surprise right? It's a Supernatural piece :D Dean has "gotten in" on FBI's most wanted list and even though it's not exactly most people's "life goal" to be on that list, his little brother Sam is jealous of him. See, they do basically everything together (demon hunting etc.) so Sam's jealousy isn't that far fetched. Either way, I thought it'd be a good way to represent envy. Especially since they're brothers and there's often competition between brothers (they especially;)) and waht's competition of not an effort in making the other party envious?

Entry #1. GREED. I just watched this Friends episode recently and felt compelled to art it for the challenge. "The One with the Lottery." In it, the friend pool their money together to buy some lottery tickets and just before the numbers are announced a series of betrayals is revealed and they soon all turn against each other until Phoebe hijacks the bowl with all the tickets ans threatens to chuck off the balcony!

Second Entry: Predator vs. Prey

For this entry, I wanted to show the darker side that your definition for this sin gave way to, for Bella and Edward. This is from Edward's point of view, about how he views Bella insinctively when they first meet, when he first smells her blood and how he reacts to it. The hunter, the predator, the vampire in him, wants to rip her throat out and kill her immediately, just to have that sweet nector on his lips, and I wanted to show the first scene in 'Midnight Sun' (SM's WIP for Twilight from Edward's point of view) when he's thinking about how easy it would be to lead her away from the pack (or what have you), to seduce her and then to kill her.

ENTRY ONE - Pride

Pride - excessive love of self. Step up Miss Cordelia Chase. Cordelia in the first few seasons of Buffy totally defines this for me. She thinks the whole world centers around her, she HAS to have the latest fashion and she thinks she's better than anyone else. You gotta love her though:D Found it kinda hard to find good/large quality pics of her from early season Buffy, but I hopefully did the best I could. Basically just used stocks of jewellery, shoes to emphasise her love of all things expensive.

ENTRY TWO - Wrath

Decided to do one on Angelus and his torment of Buffy and her friends after him and Buffy do the happy dance and he goes back to his big bad self. He tries to make Buffy pay for making him feel human again and thinks the best way to do that is to not only hurt her physically but mentally by picking on her friends as well. Not much else to say except that the text and title suck. I REALLY struggled to think of anything.:(

Oops! Forgot about the whole Acathla thing as well, Acathla opens his mouth and sucks all humankind into hell. Don't think I need to go into much more detail as you all know the story by now. LOL Forgot I had put a picture of him in there

Explanation:
Mmmkay. So this entry is from the TV show Dexter, actually from the pilot woohoo. So if you dont know anything about Dexter heres the rundown.. He works in forensics, specialising in blood spatter, hes also a serial killer..but a good one as he only kills people that deserve it. So in this scene he gets called out to a crime scene, but hes not needed as there isnt any blood, not in the body or around the body...hes amazed by it and wonders why he never thought of it, hes envious of the killer who came up with the idea... Okay thats it...i know its kind of a stretch but hey i tried.

Yeah! managed another one. This one is about Spike and the Buffybot and is for the category lust. In season 5 Spike has a big old yen for Buffy but she rejects his advances. Spike gets Warren to create the Buffybot and this enables Spike to carry out his lustful thoughts about Buffy. It's the only way he can be close to her. The programming of the Buffybot allows for Spike's feelings to be reciprocated back to him. As usual not good with the explainy.:D

This peice is based on the tv series Alias. In the third season, Sydney, the main character (left) was presumed dead, and the love of her life married another woman. When Sydney showed up a couple of years later, very much alive, needless to say, she was a bit envious of her lover's new wife. :p

Entry 1 Wrath

This piece is about the first Doctor of the new series. When the series started it is alluded to that the Ninth Doctor was involved in "The Last Great Time War" with the Time Lords and their arch foes the Daleks, cultivating in both species being wiped out and he was the only survivor. It's discussed how he watched the two great civilizations burn and probably had a hand in ending them himself. The Doctor who survived through this is full of hate and anger after losing everything to a war, and only becomes the good and reasonable Doctor we know and love through his companion Rose. However, his wrath rises to the surface on occasions and it becomes evident that he is a good man capable of real terror if pushed to his limits.

The piece shows his home planet Gallifrey, (said to be The Shining World Of The Seven Systems and perfect to look at) burning at the end of the Time War. And if anyone's wondering, that's the time vortex reflected in his eye. I did want a pic of him looking really stern and heartbroken, but there aren't many HQ promos out there that were usable, so try to ignore that he's got a bit of a smile and imagine he's now a hardened warrior with nothing to live for (think Mal in the pilot teaser for Firefly).

Entry 2 Gluttony

So SN's Dean has a special relationship with food. He loves meat and junk food and we've rarely seen him eat anything else, and he will be delighted with any free food. The show likes to play on that fact, hence lots of images of him stuffing his face.

I don't do funny pieces, generally cos I find them really hard, and this one was no exception. I came out nothing like what I had planned, and I'm disappointed about that, but I just couldn't make it work any other way! So it's not ever going to be my favourite piece but after working on it for so long it seemed silly not to post it!

Entry six

Glam Rock. I'm in love. It's all Velvet Goldmine's fault really. It's such an amazing and mesmerising film, both visually and musically. Because how can you not fall in love with Roxy Music's 2 H.B. or T.Rex's 20th Century Boy? Either case, as I was watching the movie for the second time (I'm one of those weirdos who likes to watch good movies about ten times...) I came up with this entry for Greed. See, Brian Slade (who's this gigantic glam rock star - loosely based on David Bowie) tells the reporters that he and his "friend" (in lack of better word) Curt Wild intend to take over the world. And what's more greedy than taking over the whole world (or planning to :lol:)?

I really went for the "glam" with this piece. I wanted colours, strong textures that jump at you and a little bit of glitter and stars ;) Which is why the piece is yellow and pink (hopefully :roll:)! I'm not oblivious to the fact that there are some pretty strong colours. However, that's sort of half the point with the piece^^

Okay so i was thinking of greedy thoughts and the Angel ep "Provider" came into my head... A pretty pointless ep, Angel is obssessed with making money now that he has Connor. In the end he learns money isnt everything (sort of...not really...see pointless!). So my piece is very money-heavy, the colouring is quite strange but yeah....i spent too long on it not to enter it :D

I love the simplicity of this piece and how well it portrays the bigger theme between Buffy and Faith. The images of the two that you chose are fantastic, as Buffy's seems very sunny and happy and Faith's is so much darker. You split them very well. The font is a different choice for the piece than what I would have picked, but I really liked it. My favorite part of this was your use of the filters. The images look perfect. Lovely work.

The first thing that jumped out at me when I saw this piece was Cordelia and I couldn't think of a better image for this piece. Holding the money up like that with that crazy grin is the perfect image of greed. I liked how you picked the images. The Angel Investigations image worked out very well and was an interesting pick. I like your choice of font and how you placed it. The whole piece flows very well.

Love the use of negative space in this piece. I'm a big fan of that and it worked very well here. The coloring is absolutely beautiful and the images are so well chosen. The portray such a sense of longing between the characters. The font and text is very well chosen and placed. I really like that as well.

This is a great scene for this challenge. It brings a funny element to something most would consider dark. I love the coloring you used - it really worked out well with the mood of the scene. The images are well placed, but my favorite part is how you placed and worked your font. That is very well done.

You really captured the emotion of the scene in this piece. I haven't watched this show, but I could really feel the pain and anger in the scene just by viewing your piece.
