View Full Version : What music are you into???
When i was a teenager i listened to mainly, Rap.
But these days i like everything. Some of my lfavorites are
Tupac
Bob Marley
Guns n Roses
Morrissey
Red hot Chill peppers
Gangstarr
Jay z
Theres loads more but these are the main ones of the top of my head.
I chose rock even though the only of those I don't listen to regularly is heavy metal, though I do sometimes...
A little prediction.
My Guess is, Rock will be the most popular. Although its not my favorite.

A lot of everything. A little country (John Hiatt) but not too much  NO rap...sorry....but I like one Eminem song....does that count? But the ones I checked were Rock and Other. That other is Folkish Rock  Folkish rock is totally awesome :p Oh, and I forgot POP! :( It's all because of Magnetic Duty that I have more pop songs. Also, Jizzle Dizzle has helped me embrace pop  Reading off my favorite artists from my top 45 songs....

AND Great Big Sea isn't Irish foolish boy (I still love you anyway)! They're Canadian! Unless you meant to say Celtic for gerne.
I spose the majority of my music comes from the many subgenres of rock, though some come from pop and for sure I have some weirdass music taste  For the last year or so I've been on more of an Indie binge which so should get its own category ;)
I know, i know, i forgot to put Indie, and Classical.

oldies & classical. lmao. i'm pretty sure i'm going to be the odd girl out here.
elvis presley, wolfgang amadeus mozart, jerry lee lewis, judy garland, the righteous brothers, the platters, sonny & cher, general golden oldies from the '50-'70s (includes a mixture of rock'n'roll, rockabilly, boogie woogie, bluegrass, ballads, country, blues, civil war era folk ballads--non-hippie!, pop, doo wop, motown, soul, swamp funk, las vegas power ballads, opera, barbershop harmonizing, balladeering, etc...--elvis alone is about half those genres--including opera!), general classical, movie soundtracks--danny elfman, john williams, etc...
so, i checked off rock, pop, country and other.
and my favorite movie EVER is amadeus. ;)
i've been to 2 (?) of mozart's homes (salzburg and vienna) and 2 (?) of beethoven's (vienna).
and of course, GRACELAND.

 Some Hush Sound is totally pop ;) As is Metric, IMO, or it might be Alternative? AH! So confusing
Yeah, I was mixing up a band with Great Big Sea. I was still listening to Great Big Sea, though! I did mean to say Celtic....I think.....:p
I listen to all sorts of music really, if I like it then I'll listen to it, I don't really have one type of music I listen to and others I just despise.
I chose pop, rock, dance and other which would probably be alternative and R n B.

i have such a varied taste in music i checked most of the boxes, hehe.
i just don't really listen to RnB / Hip Hop or Reggae.
i can't be bothered listing, so just have a look at my last.fm account:
http://www.last.fm/user/xmorbid_angelx/
it isn't completely exact though since my little brother listens to music on my computer sometimes. so Arctic Monkeys as my no.1 artist is more than slightly exaggerated, heh.

10 years ago or so I used to listen mainly metal (mostly doom), punk and classical.
At the present moment less of metal (but there are some like Type O Negative which I'll love forever), still classical (lately more opera plus minimal stuff), also now I'm more into indie rock and folk. And countless other rock bands. And ambient.
But this is what my current iTunes Top 10 most played songs looks like:
1) Glen Hansard - Lies
2) Glen Hansard - When Your Mind's Made Up
3) Quiet Village - Victoria's Secret
4) The Mountain Goats - No Children
5) Nico - These Days
6) Ron Sexsmith - Cold Hearted Wind
7) Cat Stevens - Peace Train
8) Arvo Pärt - Cantus In Memory of Benjamin Britten
9) Feist - Inside & Out
10) White Stripes - My Doorbell

I've got no idea if they're still making music but I love listening to them! I love 'Dyke March 2001' - the soundclips are brilliant and the way they've got the drums like military - it's dynamite!
Loving Crystal Castles! Only found out the other day that 'Alice Practice' is literally just that, Alice practising. Originally it was just a recording of their soundcheck :)
And I love Justice! My dad publishes them so I get to hear all the new stuff :) I love their collaboration with Simian for 'We Are Your Friends', it is one of my ultimate club tunes :):)
Wolfie Gilmore
20-06-08, 02:43 PM
8) Arvo Pärt - Cantus In Memory of Benjamin Britten
9) Feist - Inside & Out
Yes yes, both good!
I like...
Bjork
CSS
Arcade Fire
Tom Waits
Miles Davies
Wagner
Poulenc
Robbie Williams (what? go on, you know you love it too...and through it all, she offers me protection...mmm, cheesy goodness)
Rufus Wainwright (the gay messiah)
Joan as Policewoman (Joan is NOT blah, Dawn, whatever you may think)
Anthony and the Johnsons (which, coupled with Bjork...awesome...apparently they went on holiday together and made music!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odz2IsfkeaA - the music is a little way into the podcast).
Roy Orbison
Nina Simone
Nick Cave (and the bad seeds but also, solo)
I'm a rock person. ANY genre of rock if it has a heavy sound, like hard rock or metal. I also love the raw sound of punk. So I chose rock and heavy metal, also other because I do like some alternative. My fave bands:
Nirvana
Sublime
Alice In Chains
Rage Against The Machine
Bad Religion
The Sex Pistols
Minor Threat
NOFX
Rancid
Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Ozzy Osbourne
Pantera
Smashing Pumkpins
And although most of my musical tastes are early-mid nineties and before, I do like some of the newer stuff, like:
Avenged Sevenfold
Flyleaf
Seether
Three Days Grace
Evanescence
And the amazingly talented (For teens, at least):
Black Tide
I also love some musicals, which is why I adore the new Sweeney Todd soundtrack, and why the OMWF soundtrack is the gem of what I call my "Non-Rock" music collection.
I used to POP FAN but not anymore now i listen to everything & anything but for the moment i,m more into Turkish music although i have no clue what the words really means ^_^
Oh really? Which bands/singers/songs you like the most?
I like Tenacious D, Foo Fighters, and Coldplay too, but Red Hot Chili Peppers is totally different. I guess Basak and Selen can talk about this obsession very well:D

Yay we surely can:D By the way I didnt know that you were a Tenacious D fan!! I'm into Travis these days.. Guess it's because of the concert 2days ago:roll:
I just got back from a Swiss music festival where I saw, among others, fantastic performances by Manic Street Preachers, The Kooks, Beck and The Fratellis so I'm mostly listening to them right now. :D

Well, my highest played on iTunes are apparently: Rufus Wainwright, Bjork, Radiohead, KT Tunstall, City and Colour, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Rage Against The Machine, Thelonious Monk, Dire Straits, Manic Street Preachers, The Verve, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Muse, Cream, Hendrix, Billy Bragg and Bob Dylan. An interesting mix.
EDIT: Eeek, how could I forget Sigur Ros?!

I listen to anyting I like the sound of and i'm always looking to expand my music library. The way I see it is; why confine yourself to a specific genre, or even a few? ALL music genres have something to offer and by ignoring them you're denying yourself the chance to hear and experience something new and interesting. There's a lot of people influenced by the radio, mtv and charts but all they play is the same generic crap over and over and the majority of the population just go along with it because it's the "in thing". I really could go on forever lol but i'll stop now.

When people ask me what kind of music I like I always say, "GOOD music".
I guess because I was introduced to so many kinds of music when I was younger. I took piano, voice, was in chorus and choir, I was a band nerd. Also, respond on an emotional level to music. Which is why I find "The Body" one of the most difficult epiodes of Buffy to watch (other than it's suject material").
There are only two types of music I don't like - Southern Gospel and Secular Rap. (Love Christian Rap like DC Talk, Toby Mac)
Right now I listen mostly to hard rock/rock. I was listening to country for a while but it became too "Pop"-sounding to me. I like old country - Hank Williams and Hank Williams Jr., Randy Travis, Meryl Haggard, Waylon Jennings (NOT Willie Nelson - blech!), Randy Skaggs, Clint Black, Alan Jackson, Vince Gil.
I even like Blue Grass - Nickel Creek is a new contemporary Blue Grass Group I like.
On my MP3 player is Coldplay, Nickelback, Evanescence, Immogene Heap, Alecia Keys, Papa Roach, Sevendust, Foo Fighters, Staind, Flyleaf, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sick Puppies, Breaking Benjamin, Red, Limp Bizkit, Alice in Chains, Linkin Park, Push Monkey, Kelly Clarkson, Rob Zombie, Saliva, Lenny Kravitz, Finger Eleven, Dido.
I also like Michael Buble, Anna Nalick, Maysa, Corrinne Bailey Ray.
But I'm just as home with the opera, the symphony or ballet.

I'd say I've got a varied taste in music. If I like the sound of something I like it regardless of the genre it's in. I guess I'd say I'm more a pop person. You just can't beat a bit of cheesy pop!. My taste in music goes right from Elvis to My Chemical Romance (and no I'm not a b****y emo). I suppose it depends as well on the mood I'm in with what I listen to. Some of my faves are in no particular order:
My Chemical Romance
Elvis
Westlife (no laughing at the back)
Wet Wet Wet (my all time favourtie, I've seen them like 21 times)
Bon Jovi
Celine Dion
The Killers
Duran Duran
Madonna
Phil Collins
Meatloaf
Abba
I could go on and on:)

My taste is pretty varied. Alot of the CDs in my collection are soundtracks to musicals, which I absolutely adore. My favorite musical soundtracks are Hairspray Movie and Broadway (Pop), Xanadu Broadway (Dance/Disco/Pop), Grease (Pop), Walk The Line (Country), Across The Universe (Pop/Rock), Mamma Mia! (Dance/Pop/Disco), and Evita (Rock Opera). As far as artists and genres go, again it's pretty varied. Honestly, the only type of music from the choices that I absolutely hate is Rap. I like all of the rest. Here are some of my favorite artists:
Madonna (Pop)
Christina Aguilera (Pop)
Meatloaf (Rock)
Johnny Cash (Country)
Elvis Presley (Rock)
The Beatles (Rock)
Abba (Dance/Pop/Disco)
