I see my vision burn, I feel my
memories fade with time
but I'm too young to worry
(a melody, a memory, or just one picture)
Seize the day or die regretting
the time you lost
~ Avenged Sevenfold
Time consumes and defines our existence. Yet its very essence is undefined.
Perception of time comes in so many forms. Does it inevitably move forward setting moments in stone or is it fluid allowing for us to change our past or destiny? Is it the calm before the storm, or is it the wild ride? Is a remembrance of past as valuable as the promise of future. Is time only epic or is it most beautiful in the smallest of moments?
Time is everything, yet nothing and from this duality came the challenge title.
I want you to try to capture some aspect of time. Whether a character caught in the struggle or if you at home was overwhelmed by the feeling.
I'd really love to see art from Supernatural, Twilight, Moonlight, or Terminator/Sarah Connor Chronicles as each of those fandoms are intertwined with time. Why do I think this?
Obviously vampires, being removed from the mortal coil, do not experience time as we do. Moonlight hypothesizes that perhaps the finite nature of time is what makes it precious. While Twilight emphasizes the beauty within the everyday joy and struggle of living.
Supernatural has this impending exposure of truth of the past always hanging over the Winchester boys future as well as their resistance to act upon it. Time passes whether it is used wisely or not.
Terminator:Sarah Connor Chronicles also has this essense and not from the obvious time travel nature of the show. Destiny and ability to change the future are an aspect of time. As well as SCCs ability to make our memories of first watching the movies come alive as the characters own memories. And perhaps most beautifully proposing that time is measured as the distance between who you are now and who you will become.
What I'm trying to convey is that time is more than just the seconds on the clock, the day, the season, or even what year. So, no stocks of clocks, hourglasses, calendars, and other time pieces.
Time is a heartbeat. It races. It flutters. And sometimes feels as if it stops all together.
Time can be compared to anything, perhaps a tree (always branching from one decision), or a raging river (the current nearly impossible to go against), or an apple (daring us to take a chance when it could be poisoned and therefor our end).
I'd love to see these ideas or any random object given properties of time. I want to see wildly crazy but personal conceptions of how you view time. I hope to also see lighting, textures, composition used to convey time.
Time defines who we are and the moments we have. It's our past, present, future as well as how they affect each other.
I have tried to come up with a lot of inspiring time related words, objects and conceptions in this post in order to help jumpstart your muse. I would be thrilled to see any of these ideas explored visually.
This is an abstract challenge, so pretty much anything goes. However, I do want a sentence or so description of how your piece conveys an essence of Time. Please ask any questions in here or by PM. :D
PURPOSE: Convey an idea related to time through a scene, feeling, image, word, or art technique.
FANDOMS PREFERRED: Supernatural, Twilight, Moonlight, Terminator/Sarah Connor Chronicles
FANDOMS NOT ALLOWED: Lost, Harry Potter, BTVS episode "The Body", BTVS episode "Restless", Angel episode "I Will Remember You"
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: No stock images of clocks, hourglasses, calendars, and other time pieces.
ENTRIES ALLOWED: 4
DEADLINE: Thursday April 17
EDIT: Stock art and music art are also allowed.
okay, so my piece is from Sarah Connor Chronicles (hahaha SCC Union better be makin an appearance here, gals). Time is represented through my piece in the change in not only what Terminators aka the Machines represent, but what they mean to John as well. In the first film, Terminators were terrifying, the future, Judgement Day, all of it. The T-800 (Ahnold's model, yes I'm a nerd) in the first film was SO SCARY. In Cameron we see such a huge difference, she's a hero of sorts, still methodical, still a machine, but she has personality, and she seems to care for John, in whatever roundabout way she can. She even has a name. John himself, has obviously changed the way he feels about the machines over time as well. In a sense, the machines are one of the only constants he has even had, and in T2, he became friends with the T-800. Now, things have progressed to the point that he has atleast some caring for Cameron. As seen in this scene, though very brief, time stood still for a moment for me, and a wallpaper idea was burned into my brain. This challenge just gave me the opportunity to finally get to it!
So yes. Time represented through the change in the way we see the machines. and represented in the way that John sees them as well. Oh, and I know we can't use time pieces (lol about the talk we had on lj about clocks), but the cogs around the text weren't meant as the things you see in watches, I was just trying to incorporate some machinery to go with the theme.

Fits wonderfully! :xd And thank you for listing SCC caps can be found at Daydreaming (http://black-celebration.net/caps/index.php?cat=290). :D
I wanted to clarify it is perfectly fine to use stuff like cogs, arrows, numbers, etc as long as they are not meant to substitute for conventional time pieces or standard intervals (60 seconds, 24 hours, 365 days).
I'm trying to make this as outside the box challenge as I can. :D

I really loved this scene where Ruby reveals to Dean about who/what she is. I loved the line and that it brought about something new in her character. And to me, I think of time when I think of hell. Being trapped there. Eternity. Pain, Torture. Futility. Hopelessness. What makes time go slower than these very things. Time can often be measured in these aspects of the human condition, Misery makes us slow down. Joy makes time fly by. So I wanted to show Ruby in a winding pit of wandering helplessness, knowing what she is and that she can't seem to change. It would be easier for her if only she could as her quote so adequately describes. So compositionally speaking, I wanted to avoid the sort of obvious hell-ish effects. I took only the colors--black, red, yellow (and a little white for contrast) to convey a sense of hell. And for time, I decided to turn these images of Ruby around in various directions; abstractly, the idea was to arranges her in a way that resembles a kind of broken clock, one that has been shattered into many pieces. Well, those were the ideas. But again, they are abstractly portrayed. I certainly couldn't ask anyone to notice something like that without my explaining it first.

About: Basically I did two versions, the first had a clock..... but then when I came to post and read through your damn rules again, I realised that piece was out... so did this second version. What I wanted to show was Bella looking over in shock as she realises the moment of her death has come... she's consumed with fear, and yet there's still this barrier of hope between her and her fate separating them. Also I wanted to show the image of her first seeing James, and the phone call she received as sort of distant memories in the past - to show how much time she feels has passed between then and now. Meh, I can't really explain it, it worked much better with the clock version, trust me! I changed the text for this one too, but hey!

Well, I like this idea of we are who we are. And I love this monologue by Sarah Connor about the certainty of inevitability and how it relates to us, as humans, with our notions of time and identity. It's a futile sounding message underlined with with a smidgen of hope. So, hopefully the concept comes across well enough. This is from the episode "Gnothi Seauton" and it's a basic blended-style collage; I wanted two images juxtaposed of Cameron--as she represents the future--and I wanted them to show her in two different lights: a slightly beaten and defeated version and the other a strong, take charge version. I also added some stock of an industrial looking backdrop because the industrial age, of course, is what leads man to this path of insane technology. Anyway...

Oh quite an unusual challenge, and quite difficult too ^^
Entry One
Ok so this is a bit spoilery, from Twilight
Ok, I'm so totally drowning in Twilight. Well, with this piece I wanted to show how Bella wants to be turned, and kind of taken out of the normal time flow. And I'm not that happy with the piece but I made it for this challenge and therefore feel I should submit it :p.
Anyway, you could say becoming a vampire is like getting an incurable disease (that kills you ^^), especially in Twilight because of the venom.

I've really struggled to come up with something that wasn't really obvious and wasn't symbolised using stocks of clocks!!
My piece is about how time changes you feelings towards things. At the beginning of S1 of SN, there was a lot of bad feeling still between Sam and John about how he wanted to go to college and lead an ordinary life away from hunting. However after the death of Jess and the time spent looking for him, Sam's anger towards his father mellowed, with the exact same happening to John. When they finally met up again towards the end of the season there was only relief that the other was safe, and a mutual understanding that each of them had to move on in order to heal the rift between them. This piece is my take on how they finally accepted that.

There are no size requirements for you to worry about. Plus I think unusual shapes are fun. :D
I wanted to say that all the entries have beautifully fit the idea behind the challenge! I'm so very impressed!
Great challenge Lyn, I feel like it really pushed me for new ideas
Entry 1 - Supernatural, Heart. I feel that when your world falls apart around you time stands still almost as if to taunt you in your suffering. I really wanted to play around with that for your challenge and I decided to come at it in a completely different way. This piece really started from the quote which I thought really worked for this scene I had in mind. I wanted it to echo the images on the canvas and to add voice to a still moment. I wanted to use the water to visualize this and in way to be the main focus of the moment because what’s going on behind is too painful. I also always associate rain with sadness, so visually it also worked with my mood on this.

Entry two
Ok, so I have made another entry as well. This time featuring Edward and Emmet (still from Twilight ^^). They kind of live outside time (vampires!), but still try to fit in the normal life, with school (at least in the first book^^), and "hike"/hunt ^^ during weekends (!). And at the same time trying not to disturb nature, and time's course. I mean even if it's a part of the week, it's more like part of their "life" and they trying to find their way around and fit in society, even though they are outsiders... Ouch it's hard to explain what I mean ^^.

I hope you don't mind I didn't do any of the preferred fandoms. When I saw 'Time' I immediately went Doctor Who! Seeing as how the main character (The Doctor) travels in time. But I didn't want to do something completely obvious so I chose this moment. Very long explanation under the cut since I don't think you watch the show.
Okay so to try and make a long story short(er) The Doctor & Rose are in love. In this scene they've been separated by separate universes and he's projecting his image to say goodbye because if he comes all the way through both universes would shatter. So they're never going to see each other again basically. He has limited time to project himself because it's taking a lot of power. So they talk and she admits to him (finally!) that she loves him. And right when he's about to say it back he runs out of time and ends up saying "I suppose if it's my last chance to say it Rose Tyler..." and he disappears. Very depressing. Anyway so it's about them running out of time and how they wasted time dancing around each other never admitting how they felt even though they both knew it. To show time I used lightning stocks. And there's a reason behind this as well. All season long there have been hints to "a storm coming" with different characters mentioning it and even The Doctor himself. This separation and end of their time together is what the storm was referring to. And lightening = storm. Phew. I hope that made sense.

Highly Intellectual and Artistic Explanation of the Piece (...nottttt!):
For this wallpaper, I decided to take a look at Alice, from the ever so popular Twilight series, and how she relates to time. For those who don't know, Alice is a vampire with the unique ability to see the future. However, she can only see what's set in stone, and even that can change. If someone hasn't made up their mind yet, she can't see their future. But once they're sure about something and know that they'll take action on it, their path becomes just as clear to Alice as it is to that person.
How does time effect Alice? Well, if you didn't really pick out how in the brief biography above, Alice is effect in multiple ways:
1. She's a vampire. She'll live forever, defying the natural order of things and of time.
2. She can see the future.
3. Her visions of the future, of how time will play out, can change so easily and abruptly. This makes her ability a little less useful sometimes.
So, to convey this I first had to do a manip. I took Ashley Greene's (the actress playing Alice in the "Twilight" movie) head and manipulated it onto Selma Blair's body because her hair is perfectly pixie and how I pictured it and the picture itself worked perfectly for the piece. I then divided the wall into two separte sections - one light, one dark. This was to represent what's definite and what's not, what's currently happening and what's going to happen, what's clear and what isn't, etc...
I used a stock image of the moon to show the darkness/nothingness that Alice sometimes sees if she can't see someone's future and a stock image of a sunflower to show the opposite (and stock images of the sun just turn out to be big glowing balls of light...totally unattractive... :p ). Both of these pictures were also intended to convey time - night and day, present and future. In the middle of both of those stocks is a stock of broken glass which I intended to have represent how Alice defies time and the natural order of things.
Lastly, I have Alice situated so that she's basically in both halves of the piece - the light half and the dark half. Again, this is to show how she's psychically able to be rooted in the present and drift in the future at the same time.
The lyrics I felt conveyed the message I'm trying to get across well enough and the swirly lights in the first version are just there for spiffy, flashy lights and colors and have absolutely not powerfully deep meaning behind them (but I'm not sure if I like them there or not - hence the two versions :p ).
Yup. That's it. Long explanation is overrrrrrrr!
The entries in this challenge so far are so indescribably AMAZING! Ahhh! I love them all! Good luck everybody! This challenge is simply fantastic - to watch and participate in! :D
Fight An Eclipse
Oh yay, my first Twilight piece!! A JXBXE peice with mega spoilers for the end of Eclipse.
MEGA SPOILERS/ TWILIGHT, ECLIPSE!!
http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/9229/eclipsegf5.th.jpg (http://img240.imageshack.us/my.php?image=eclipsegf5.jpg)
This piece explores the choice Bella makes in the final chapters of Eclipse between Edward, Jacob and the corresponding futures they can give her.
'Time defines who we are and the moments we have. It's our past, present, future as well as how they affect each other.'
Basically I wanted to portray a sense of the moment in which Bella kissed Jacob and realized that she loved him as well, but not as fiercely, as Edward. During that kiss Bella sees a life that, should she choose Jacob over Edward as he wants, she would have. Although Bella realizes that she could not live with out Edward even if she wanted to, and in association would never be able to make Jacob happy the way she wants too, she also agrees when Jacobs tells her that 'If the world was the way it was suppose to be, if there were no monsters and no magic...' they would have been soul mates. Buy the end of Eclipse Bella essentially had two soul mates and two futures, but by law of her own nature, is only able to take one road.
Conceptually this piece examines the idea of how one moment, or meeting, or person in time can change your destiny forever. How really, we are living one version of a life with infinite variations.

Okay, so I haven't entered a challenge in the past few months, and this one seemed appriopate to enter.
Right now my daughter is on a huge Disney kick, so I'm in the habit of spending my days watching the Disney channel and Disney movies. I got her to sit down and watch Beauty and the Beast one day and she seemed to like it (as much as a 2 year old could).
So I figured Beauty and the Beast was a good movie to represent time. The Beast needs to find out what love is by his 21st birthday, in comes Belle and before he knows it he's falling in love. Yet he gives her up so she can save her father knowing full well that is time has run out. The rose throughout the movie represented the time he had and in this art you can see it while in bloom and then when he tells Belle she can leave. Enjoy.

And I do have quite a long winded explanation about the piece, so head behind the spoiler for more!
Basically what I wanted to do was to capture Mick's first meeting with Coraline, and how he viewed her, bathed in light, and seemingly perfect, and to juxtapose it with hos Mick sees Coraline now - or, in this episode anyway, The Ringer - a shock mostly, but a liar, and shrouded in darkness. I wanted to feel this split of time, but I didn't want it to be definite, I kind of wanted them to merge together slightly - hence the sort of breaks in time with the lines and dots, rather than a definitive split.
Two views, past and present, one goes way and the other goes the other, I tried to use the image placement to really help with the flow of the piece, but it doesn't have that finished look about it like I wanted it to. *sigh*
As for the text, I found the lyrics so fitting, I just searched for lyrics with "timeless" in them, as that was the idea I was trying to get across, how despite the big gap in time, they remain the same people, but Mick's view on Coraline has changed. And I loved the line "but we tricked it at it's own game" I loved the idea, of how moments were passing between them, and time was "chasing" them, but then they tricked time, and froze themselves as vampires together, and beat time at its own game.
And I really wanted to finish the piece, on the phrase "Timeless Love even although, right now, Mick is seeing Coraline in a different light, at the end of the day, they are both eternal, and their love is still there underneath it all as shown above.
Anyway, that was my big boring explanation behind the piece. I think I over-thought a lot of it, which is why it took so long, but hey! Hope it made sense to you!

I have wanted to enter this challenge so much as it really caught my imagination.:) It’s so different and out there, if you know what I mean. I was sitting reading (well actually I was lying reading) and I came across a passage in the book High Stakes by Erin McCarthy and inspiration struck. I know it’s not one of your preferred fandoms but as I said I just had to do something.
Anyway here goes for the somewhat rambling and incoherent explanation.
Explanation
This is about Buffy & Angel and how Angel as a vampire has lived a long, lonely life until he found Buffy and she gave him some meaning, a purpose and also how love can make the passage of time seem like the blink of an eye. That there is never enough time when you are in love, you spend all the time hungering for one another’s touch and a moment apart is like a lifetime….so that’s the idea of the piece taken care of, now onto the explanation of the stocks etc.:D I used a couple of stocks of the ocean to symbolise the long life that Angel has led, as the ocean ebbs and flows much like the passage of time. The orangey/yellows are supposed to reflect the sunset, the time he awakens and can be with Buffy again. The negative space is supposed to reflect his long, somewhat lonely existence. There’s also a couple of brushes of birds in there and for the life of me I can’t remember why they are there…..maybe to reflect the feelings of being in love, how your heart soars. :) As I said the quote is from a book and I thought it summed up pretty much Vampires and their existence. It's turned out a pretty simple piece considering the amount of stocks/textures I used. Anyway in the words of Oz “this is making the kind of sense that’s not”

Entry One: What They Don't Tell You
WOO! Entry. Of the Twilight variety. And here we go.
When you posted the challenge, this quote came to my head:
And I was thinking about how disjointedly time seemed to flow in Forks, passing in a blur at times, with single images standing out more clearly than others. And then, at other times, every second was significant, etched in my mind. I knew exactly what caused the difference, and it disturbed me.
I wanted to show the way Bella's experiences in Forks differ, where she usually just exists and everything is just a blur to her, yet she connects with and holds on to her moments with Edward. (ZOMG, THAT'S NOT WHAT SHE MEANT, J.J. ... well, work with me, so at least this piece would make sense :p)
While reading the books, we're in Bella's mind. But if we were to take ourselves out of it and watch, from the outside, how her life plays out, it's not the seconds, hours or days that slow down when she's around Edward. What really defines how time moves for her is perception, her awareness of everything around her.
I didn't want to use the quote from the book, partly because she mentions that it's disturbing and I try to keep things positive! But also because I wanted something more universal. So I stole my quote from Big Fish, because I think it's just as fitting and describes exactly what I was going for.
Her life in Forks moves as a blur (I included the "Forks posse" in the piece, because they make up a part of her life in Forks, though they kind of fade in comparison to Edward.) and it's all going on around her (and yes, I really just do love using that image of Sasha Pivovarova for Bella.) And then all this craziness stops when she's around Edward. Not that anything really stops, but she's more aware of him than anything else. Edward is clear, distinct, prominent, whereas the rest of Forks all blur, mush, and blend together in her mind.

Explanation:
I originally wanted to do just an Alice piece but when I saw Heather's entry I changed my mind because it was so awesome and since we have used the same person as base for the manip (LOL is she fitting or what?) I decided to change mine a bit and include Jasper as well.
I think the pair of them fits with the theme of this challenge, first of all because they are vampires and that means that they have all the time in the world, they live forever.
Then there is Alice's powers, the way she can see the future. She was all alone when she was turned into a vampire, she had no one to help her and she didn't remember anything about her life as a human. She saw Carlisle and his family, in her own future and knew that that was where she wanted to go, that was how she wanted to live. She knew she would be joining them and so she was able to hold on to her sanity.
She also saw Jasper in her own future, before she knew him at all she knew that he was her true love, her soulmate and so she set out to find him, to wait for him at the place she had seen her meeting with him for the first time.
As for Jasper, he had struggled for a long time with himself and the life he led in the vampire army. He wasn't happy, he knew that much but he didn't know what else was out there. He still left that life to go search for something better, something he would be happy with and he found Alice. He didn't know anything about her, she was just there - waiting for him with such a certainty that he couldn't do anything but come with her. He couldn't be sure of his future with her but he knew he had to take the chance and go with her. Only time would tell if it worked out :)
I think their story is so beautiful. They had an instant connection, like they were always meant for eachother - like they were created for eachother and had just been existing before, instead of living - like they had only been waiting for eachother all their lives (or as they technically aren't "alive", all their existance :p).
I wanted to include the quotes from the book, from when they met for the first time but I was listening to this song and I really thought these lyrics fit so well, they are just right for the two of them, and how I wanted to portray the moment they met, after having both struggled for so long.
Entry one
Surprise surprise! I dare show my shameful head... Anyway, this is a Twilight piece (I feel so trendy)...
Eclipse spoilers
This piece sort of centers around how Bella feels in the third book any time Edward has to go away and feed. Time comes in becuase - as mentioned many times in the books - she sort of feels like time gets blurry, slower and duller when he's not there (or Jacob, but I've chosen to ignore him due to simpicity ^^).
I'm shamefully adding to my poor explanation... Anyway, I put Edward in the mirror thing in the background to empathize that he's far away - he's even looking away - and not there to hold her and protect her like he's "supposed" to. Furthermore, the cloudy dullness of the background and colors is my method of accentuate the dull pain she feels when he's gone and she's waiting for his return. Which is why she's looking away from the "picture" (ergo center). She's looking and waiting. I almost didn't put in the smaller picture of her, but I found it was necessary since it's in that picture she looks like she's almost lost hope again - shoulders slumped, face blank..

Sooooo. Finally got a chance to type all this out!
I wanted to of course do something Twilight-esque for this challenge seeing as it is so so fitting for it. But what? Rereading parts of Twilight I came across Carlisles chapter and I pretty much had the idea in my head, or at least what I wanted to portray in the piece, all the details that I wanted in it and that such.
Medicine Man

text: 'Medicine Man' - The Hush Sound
So about the piece in question.
I wanted to show Carlisle's struggle with his soul, and his sort of limbo with it. I used a brightened cloud above him to represent a heaven like place and then to his right a more overpowering darkness for the vampire part and his thought of him losing his soul. I didn't just place a light type texturein between him and the darkness just to have it there, it is about his trying to block the evil by doing good in hopes of retaining a good soul or what have left of it, though with always having to see it it makes it harder to not give into it, which is why I chose the shot of him looking down into the darkness.
Carlisle is probably in my top 3 characters list just because of the complexity around him, or at least what he brings to the table and I tried to represent this through the wall, with him trying to fight away the evil and not wanting to be what he really is, but something better and try to retain that holyness that he once had, being the son of a minister.
While listening to the new Hush Sound CD this song [Medicine Man] totally stuck out as a Carlisle song and I wanted to use it in this wall seeing as I wasn't too sure about what I wanted the text to be, I think that was the only thing that wasn't really planned about this wall, but in the end I am really happy with using these lyrics. I like them mostly because they talk about how he is trying to do good and help others out.
Okay so I think I babbled on long enough, I hope you understand where I am coming with this wallpaper, because it is probably my most thought out wall that I have ever done. I may have babbled too much though to where its not understandable... if so just say and I'll try to word better :xd
Oh and side note.. PF needs some better quality colored photos, because as much fun as I had changing skin and hair tones in this piece, I really don't wanna do that with every Carlisle piece I do! LOL!
Second Entry! :2party:
Another Twilight piece, this time The Cullen family.

Text: Quote from twilight, chapter 6 'Scary Stories'
I'm re-reading Twilight at the moment and while I was reading this chapter I thought it would be great to do a piece of The Cullens for this challenge, using this story as text.
The Cullens are obvious for this challenge! First of all, they are vampires so they live forever - time has no meaning for them.
I thought this quote was extremely fitting for this challenge because it explains how The Cullens came to Forks once before, in the time of someone's (Jacob's) great-grandfather and again in the present, as the quote indicates.
As for the look of the piece, I wanted it to be old and scruffy looking, kinda like a faded photograph or something like that, but yet have a hint of "modern" - which I've tried to do with the text. Sorta old and new looking font mixed together. I don't know if that worked
Anyway, it's a pretty simple explanation, i don't think much is needed for this. The Cullens = vampires who have been around for many years. :)

Thoughts:Okay, idea for this wallpaper stems from something Llywela said about Dean’s life and that stayed with me for some reason. She said: “Dean’s entire life is nothing but collateral damage in someone else’s war.” That made me think of his life as a chain of interdependent moments in time, each moment informing the next one and in their entirety they make up who and what Dean is. The formative events in his life are heteronomous, they are not within his own control, but a logical chain of events activated by the Yellow Eyed Demon and furthermore influenced by John and Sam.
Mary’s death, Dean saving Sam from the burning house, their subsequent life on the road, John becoming a hunter and relying on Dean for support, his protector/nurturer role for Sam, John’s sacrifice for his life, Sam’s death – each of these events is linked to the YED’s initial interference with the Winchester's life. Whatever dreams and goals in life Dean may have harboured for himself, they were subordinated to his family’s war against the supernatural.
In my wallpaper I tried to visualise this: The YED initialises the chain of events in Dean’s life and like a falling row of dominoes they race towards the end. The dominoes fall counter-clockwise in relation to the reading flow of the caps that I chose to summarize Dean’s life. The yellow that pervades the whole piece matches the yellow in the YED eyes, symbolizing his influence on Dean’s life, throughout time. I’ve never worked with that many caps in a wallpaper before LOL and I am pretty happy with how the whole thing turned out. I worked with a slightly bigger canvas this time, because I didn't want the images to become too small. In my head it made perfect sense for your challenge, I hope it matches your idea. :)
I'm so inspired by this challenge, I am never going to have enough time to make all the ideas I have
Third entry form me is a Doctor Who piece, from the episode Rose.

Thank you Ing for the caps
Explanation:
Pretty straight forward, actually. The doctor is a timelord and can travel in time. He doesn't always end up where he plans though :p The blue box is the Tardis, which is his spaceship/time machine :)
In this episode, which is the first episode of the new series, he meets Rose Tyler and after having saved her from some scary plastic creatures, he asks her if she would like to come with him. She hesitates because obviously she doesn't know this random man who appeared out of no where, but when he mentions that the Tardis can travel through time as well, she doesn't need any more convincing, and runs to him. (I'd like to believe she is madly in love with him already  cos he's such a charmer  )
Anyway, time travels sometimes go a bit wrong and therefore is unpredictable. Sometimes, the past and future is also unpredictable, because the Doctor and Rose sometimes changes things so they don't always end up like they should (change something and the future changes, etc). It all works out in the end though :xd
With this piece, I wanted to show how Rose was sort of in the dark before she met the doctor, in the dark about what is out there but also just in general, not really having a very exciting life. When she meets the doctor she is drawn to him, he is mysterious and charming and he offers her a way out of her treadmill kinda life. So yeah, dark around Rose, but light on her face and the Doctor, as she realises he really does want her to come with him, to travel through space and time, leading an exciting life.
I also really wanted to include the part where she is running towards the Doctor because she looks so happy, so excited.
I also kept the text simple because I think the caps speak for themselves :)

Entry One: Missing
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g108/BuffSlayer/My%20Wallpapers/Misc/th_bella_cullens_missing.jpg (http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g108/BuffSlayer/My%20Wallpapers/Misc/bella_cullens_missing.jpg)
Pictures: edwardandbella.net
Brushes: Misplaced
Textures: Ugly Business, tokyo-disparue
Lyrics: Missing - Evanescence
Explanation:
So, this piece is about the emptiness that Bella feels in New Moon. Losing the Cullens and especially Edward made her feel like she lost herself in the process and the months passed by without her even noticing. The shape of the picture of Bella is to illustrate the fact that she lives in her own little space since her lover is gone and that time doesn not seem to heal the wound inside of her. The red coloring shows her pain and the black behind her represents the hole in her heart. The lyrics are there to explain how alone Bella feels and she has the feeling that Edward (and his family to an extent) don't even care about her (after what Edward told her before leaving). I hope that it is clear and that it fits the challenge.

When i saw you've posted in the thread, i thought i was late! :)
First entry, Friday Night Lights, Tim Riggins %)) I had doubts about this if it's actually what you meant but here it goes:
http://fallensky.misplaced.co.uk/images/Nonbuffy_art/401getup.jpg
It's about Tim being a fullback on the Dillon Panthers which means that every practice he is hit hard, falls on his back and gets up again and again. In the upper corner you can see Tyra giving him a morning kiss for him to get up and go play/live, fall down and get up coz life hits him hard as well. So basically it's about time cycle. Hope it makes sense %)
Second entry, Blood Ties, Henry - since you mentioned you prefer vamps for the challenge :)
http://fallensky.misplaced.co.uk/images/Nonbuffy_art/396henry.jpg
It's about time going through his heart, through his identity, ripping him appart, passing by from past royal time to nowadays.

Entry #1

Textures: Reflections

Explaination - When I read this challenge I immediately thought of Doctor Who, as he is the timelord. But, I starting thinking outside the box and thought of the episode 'School Reunion' when Sarah Jane, one of the Doctor's old companion returns. This episode is sort of about his past catching up with the present.

Judging this proved extraordinarily difficult considering how well everyone did in understanding the challenge and then conveying their idea. The beautifulness of the entries just made it near impossible to compare and rank. I was tempted to just give everyone firsts!
But since you all inspired me with your beauty and effort, it was the least I could do and, here I come with ranked awards! :D
Oh, the awards have white borders and will look prettier if you are using a forum style with a colored background.
Honorable Mentions: I used apples on the banners to describe my curiousity and intrigue of your art and ideas. Each of these were so close in breaking through and being complete heartstealing pieces.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/honmention1.jpg
I didn't know Doctor Who enough to really grasp the meaning you were going for. I'm impressed with your art and look forward to seeing more of it! :xd
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/honmention2.jpg
I really thought this idea of trying to get up over and over fit the challenge very well. I'm so glad you did enter this! Something about the composition and coloring didn't resonate with me, but I love that you brought such a unique view of time to the challenge.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/honmention3.jpg
I really loved your explanation behind this. A lot. The piece is quite well done, its just the concept of time didn't reach out and grab me from the art alone. I'm also impressed with how far you are coming in your art.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/honmention4.jpg
I'm so impressed that you did art of an animated film. And the coloring is so beautiful.
You Do Dazzle Me!!!: Twilight art is an amazing feat of hunting down pics, manipulating, and giving visual form to something that only exists as words. I am always more than blown away. I wanted to recognize these pieces for their spirit even though they didn't make the top places. I love these awards, even Edward is dazzled by you!
Fourth
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/bedazzled44.jpg
I love your idea and explanation very much and I am so impressed that you dared to manip jacob into the piece.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/bedazzled4.jpg
Although I was unsure at first, I ended up lovin the red/black of this. And the effect you did on the cullens is very intense and mysterious. Would make a cool movie ad!
Third
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/bedazzled3.jpg
Your manip of Alice is flawless. I love the effects and coloring you did on both of these. I only wish there had been more in the background like a city or shop where they met.
Second
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/bedazzled2.jpg
I love what you did with Bella caught in the real world while Edward is of another and running away. Beautifully done coloring.
First
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/bedazzled1.jpg
I loved the composition of Disease so much, I really felt Bella's intrigue into Edward and his life.
Honorable Mention Pt 2: I always have my sister give her thoughts so I can see things that I might have missed. But since I was visiting with her for much of the challenge, we talked about it more than usual. She was really impressed with both of these so I thought I'd give a special award.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/sister1.jpg
You brought the hottness, so I serve back to you. I loved the idea, my sister just thought it looked wicked cool.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/sister2.jpg
This was one idea that I hoped would be brought up about how Sam and John are similar though separated by time. My sister was really drawn to the emotion and design of the piece.
Main Events
With such an abstract challenge I didn't give much instruction on what I was looking for for fear of stifling creativity. As expected, I got pieces that destroyed my heart for beauty or emotion, as well as ones that captured the abstract idea of time in a way that mind is still puzzling out the piece.
Generally, Eclipsed is are the ones that made off with my heart. While the Places are the ones that hold my mind hostage. Since those do overlap, I tried to give each piece the highest position it would recieve in each category.
Eclipsed: The fires of my passion were all consuming so hence these awards. Also love the idea of time as a flame, burning bright, consuming and unable to go back to the original point of start.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/eclipsedfive.jpg
John Connor steals my heart and from the art I could completely feel how time stopped for you in this scene. One of my fave pieces of yours.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/eclipsedfour.jpg
This was so beautiful!!! I haven't been a fan of those promos but what you did here, I could stare at it for hours. I love the lighting and gentle coloring. Plus how you arranged all that text is impressive.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/eclipsedthree.jpg
Your quote and then explanation about the blurry/grainy aspect of the piece sent me to my knees. *heartstop* :thud: I  this piece. And I simply am in awe of the coloring of bella/edward.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/eclipsedtwo.jpg
I am amazed how you made this piece so breathtaking and seemingly simple. It takes a lot of work to make something seem so natural. And it captured the essence of the openness of the beach and ocean and our smallness in comparison. Beautifully colored and I'm starting to rent Doctor Who just so I can eventually see this scene since you've done it beautifully several times.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/eclipsedone.jpg
The construction of the torn images and their placement, the coloring, and the amazingly powerful text, I was sold and could have closed the challenge happy right then. This is going on my desktop.
Places: I picked stocks that had an element of time. I'll let you puzzle them out yourself. ;)
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/five.jpg
Moonlight!! I especially loved Coraline behind the veil of beads and the idea that time is a lie or distorts the truth.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/four.jpg Heather this is for the piece without the light stock. I think that takes away so much from what you have done. I love how the broken glass, moon, and flower are all aspects of a single thought. Morning, sun, night, broken promise of life, death. Awesome. I love the sweep of the orange against the dark grey. And I haven't even remarked on teh amazingness of the manip. :xd
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/three.jpg
I love the concept of this piece to bits. I totally do see what you were doing with ruby pics as a broken clock and I have so much love for that.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/two.jpg
This is a moment where time time seems to stop yet still move far too quick. I love the overall ambience of this piece, the coloring, the water droplets, the abstract negative spaces, and use of the moon/forest/animal (statue?) stocks with Madison. I love this scene and this may be the most beautiful piece I've seen of it.
http://quicksand.ohstatic.net/awards/ch65time/one.jpg
What can I say? I love the abstractness of the dominos and images running in opposite directions sweeping me up in the turmoil and rollercoaster of their lives. I love how Dean is on the outside to show that this is how he sees this. I am amazed at how you have the demon point and tipping the dominos. And how you linked all the caps together into a cohesive storyline. :thud: I love the back and forth of the chain reaction text. The sun shining above the trees and lighting the caps below it. There's a million things here and i'm going to stop so I can get this posted this year. ;)
Okay having written up all those feedbacks, I'm am ASTOUNDED at how everyone brought their game. I didn't realize how tough a challenge I had made and I am so amazed and in love with all of you for entering.

Awww, man I love the awards! Especially the placements with the different stocks, abstract and concrete at the same time! Lovely!
This challenge was awesome and I am glad you forced me to think in completely different visuals for the time metaphor by restricting the stock use! The piece I made for this challenge is my favourite in a long time and so I have to thank you for dragging it out of me!
Congrats to all other winners, there were some stunning pieces in this challenge! Awesome!
I just want to thank you Lyn and all the participants for this challenge - the theme was brilliant and there was so many wonderful, creative pieces! Damn, I wish I had time to take part %( But, I still had loads of fun watching, so thank you again :) And congrats to the winners! :)

Wow thanks soo much for the award:hug:....really surprised I got anything as the standard was soo high! :) All the entries were stunning and congrats to everyone who entered. The awards are simply stunning. I had fun doing this and it was a good learning curve for me as I'm not big on symbolism etc in my art. So it really taught me to think more on what I'm trying to convey with textures and such instead of just relying on caps. Cannot wait for your next challenge. This rocked:2party:
