Can I still enter the one I entered on BW? I reposted it here in Jossverse Fiction because, at the time, we had no fiction. Would you prefer I write a new one?
Llywela
15-06-07, 02:26 PM
Nope, that can be entered again here - Joe wasn't able to finish the challenge on BW because of downtime, which is why it's been renewed here. So The same fics can be entered. Do you want me to move it in here for you?
KingofCretins

Please. And, since I don't have access to do so, could you edit the thread title to the appropriate format? I don't think we can edit our own thread titles.

After it's moved you are able too...I think. I am sure you can with regular threads...
Llywela
15-06-07, 03:11 PM
Okay...can you post me a link, and gimme the exact wording you want for the title, and I'll take care of it for you. :)
I dunno about this forum, but on BW you can edit the internal title of your own threads, but not the external title - that's a mod thing.

Title should be "Challenge #1: "Canon Schmanon, Part Deux" -- Franchises (Buffy/Xander, almost NC-17)"
Can I request that "Heroes" be added as a show to use? Unless it was already considered and ruled out.

Can do ;) But remember that everyones accepted fandoms are different.
I could use some good Heroes fic...maybe some Peter/Claire ;) Remember when that used to not have an ick factor? :(

Llywela

Yep, Enderswrath's challenge is now closed. King of Cretins is next on the list, and has been PMd, but might not have seen it. Dan? :s

Dan, I know you want explicitness... if the words "I'm sorry" never get said, but is otherwise explicit, could it count?
KingofCretins
05-08-07, 08:32 PM
Oh definitely that would be fine. It just needs to be dealt with in a way that specifically references the wrongdoing between the characters.

King...can we set the story in the AtS universe, using characters that appear on both? I'm just trying to work out timings and there doesn't seem to be any Buffy-appropriate time.

Cheers! I might have found a way of doing it in the season 8 Buffyverse anyway but good to have the flexibility. Ta!
Ack! Don't mind my stupidity please, forgot to put the "Challenge 2" bit in the title of my entry, just want to make it clear that is it an entry for that challenge. :).

Can we add more than one character into the Buffyverse from another verse?
Veverka
05-09-07, 02:05 PM
Okay... I'm going to say yes, and will get around to editing the challenge to say as much... BUT: it must be super clear that the verse is the verse, and the character is the character... it's about a character in a different verse, not two verses coming together. Main thing is, this must be clear.
KingofCretins
06-09-07, 05:08 AM
Another question... is a mere crossover acceptable, or does it require a genuine retcon of the 'verse in question? I'm interested in telling a story that would require the Buffyverse to be in its own future, 2006, where it is currently in late 2004. So, it would be an entirely original Buffyverse story and not a 'retcon' as such.
Also, results for Challenge #2 will be available soon. All the entries were very good :)
Veverka
06-09-07, 10:04 AM
This is fine, this is you using a verse which just happens to be a bit future, basically. Not a prob.
Wolfie Gilmore
10-09-07, 01:58 PM
Got another query for you. When you use Dawn as an example of what you’re after…do you mean that we have to explain how a given character came to be in the verse, like Dawn was, with all the memory changes, or can they just go unexplained? IE you’re changing the fictional universe of, say, the Jossverse, but in the same way that someone doing a second draft of a book might change a fictional universe by adding another character at that draft stage.
Oh, and, do they have to be from film/tv, the characters we insert into the joss/potterverse? Could they be from literature?
Veverka
11-09-07, 12:57 AM
oooh... Well, I love it how Dawn was explained, but on your part that's a bit of a judgement call of where or how it fits into your story. Basically Joss had
twenty two episode, and you... don't ;) So yes, if you can explain it, awesome, but if not, that's more than okay.
As for the literature characters: yes, that's fine, but if I don't know the book I'll need an author's note, telling me a little summary of who the character is when he/she/it is at 'home'.
Edit: New info... If anyone at all has the desire to enter more than once... be my guest! KoC pointed out that I hadn't set an entry limit... well, there is none!

Thanks very much!
Have you read Oliver Twist? Might make it easier if I pick a book you've read. Or...got any fave classics? Dickens? Shakepeare? Austen?
And how much can I twist the verse I'm writing in to accomodate the individual? Or perhaps I should just have a go and you can let me know if it's not suitable, and then write another that is :) Yes, I'll do that.

A couple of maybes are good enough for me-I only have one (pretty excellent) entry so far so...
Also I'm pretty sure that Wolfie is cool with an extension-she might want to do another entry (if only we all had her creativity, right?).
So I'll give it until next Sunday. And folks, don't be freaked by all the cliches listed-you don't have to include them all-they are just there for ideas. Just try for Spoofy fun. :)
So, I'll post my challenge next week, yeah? Just checking, don't want to be late, been late enough lately. :)

OK, I'll try and post it sometime this week. It's pretty much ready, shouldn't take long, just a couple of things I want to change. If not before then, definitely at the weekend.

Looking forward to it too. It kind of ties in with yours, Veverka, come to think of it. Variation on a theme. :)

The man speaks the truth- Aissy you can go ahead and post your challenge whenever you feel like it. I certainly won't be upset. I'm just giving folks a little longer if they want it; I don't want to clog up the challenge system. ;)

Much. Thank you.
I don't know what that slag word means, though :)
Taken off Wikipedia (and may I specify that doing your own research is part of the challenge? :D):
"Slag is also a slang term meaning "insult in jest" used in Ireland, parts of Canada and the United Kingdom. To 'slag someone off', is to insult them, not necessarily in a serious way.
In the United Kingdom and New Zealand, to slag something (or someone) off is to insult / pick faults with it (or them) in some way, constructively or not and usually to a 3rd party. For example: "This beer is crap", or "[Name] is a fool". This can be related directly to "Removing the Slag" from smelting metal, as in effect you're pointing out the faults/impurities of that person/object."
Much. Thank you.
No probs. Hope to see what you've done with them. :)
Can I ask if anybody's been working on my challenge? Just so I know if I can expect any entries or none. :)

What's the deadline? I have scribbled down notes but had no time to form them into anything solid....so, depending on when it's due, I'm hoping I can do something even if it's something short (which is sadly all I can manage most of the time, gah!).
Dec 15... But, personally, I'm very flexible. ;)

I've got exams starting next week through the 21st, which means, while I can fit in regular chat time, writing is on hold (other than the 8.09 transcript). I would really not mind a push back on this challenge, even as far as the end of the month.
Aissy, there are a whole set of us pretty committed to entering all challenges, so you should reliably be able to get between 3 and 6 entries :) I imagine people who have a way to offer a more substantial award than rep, like fanart, might be able to entice even more.

If you could do the end of the month that would rock!
I would really not mind a push back on this challenge, even as far as the end of the month.
End of the month sounds good to me. (I have tests and placements and coursework too, know what it's like, *sighs*) If it was up to me there'd be no deadlines, deadlines would be banned and Mr Deadline who invented deadlines would have been hanged a long time ago. I'll ask a mod if it's acceptable for the challenge starter to push the deadline back a couple of weeks, though. I'll let you know.

I offered banners as an award for my last challenge, but I don't do fanart so I have to negotiate that with a mate. Who's currently busy translating my fanfics, so I'm not sure how far I can push it. ;) But I'll see what I can do.

Actually, you probably don't even have to ask -- the rules allow for two challenges to be open at once... and *every* challenge so far has been extended at least once :)

Thass right! Plus, if you want me to judge fairly, you don't want to write in season 8. And don't tell me there's not enough fandoms in that challenge that you have to include cartoon ones too! :D
I can officially tell you there'll definitely be a banner for the 1st place winner. Possibly also for the two runners-up - depending on how inspired my fanartist is with their fics - but definitely for 1st place.

Hey, about the no magical reasons for mary sue being mary sue-ish...does that mean she can't be a magical creature, or just that she can't have cast a spell to make her mary sue-ish? IE can she be a vampire/other supernatural being?
First off, challenge officially extended till 01/01/08. Just cos it's a cool date. :D
Second off,
Hey, about the no magical reasons for mary sue being mary sue-ish...does that mean she can't be a magical creature,
No. It doesn't.
or just that she can't have cast a spell to make her mary sue-ish?
Yes. That's what it means.
IE can she be a vampire/other supernatural being?
Yes, she can. Good point, that. If being a vampire or a supernatural being doesn't explain why she's so perfect at everything, that's fine. For example, in BtVS, being a Slayer doesn't make you perfect. So if you've got a Mary Sue that's a Slayer, that's ok, because you can also have normal Slayers. If, however, a random person gets turned into a vampire, and your story or characters explain her perfectness by the fact that she's now a vampire, then that wouldn't work. If she's a vampire and she just happens to be perfect as well, that's fine. (That's more than fine cos, apart from super-strength, I don't see what perfect attributes you would get from becoming a vampire.)
If you're in another fandom, say SN, if you've got a perfect character and the reason for that is that's an inherent aspect of that type of supernatural being, that's not ok. If you've got a perfect person, who's basically like a human but more perfect because it's a type of demon that's perfect, again, that's very much like Superstar, so not ok. If you've got a perfect character who also happens to be a demon or god or what have you, but that's not why they're perfect, then that's fine.
If you're in GG (I'm starting to have fun with this reply, can you tell?), having a supernatural character is very likely to explain her perfectness, so not ok. If you're chucking vampires into GG (each to their own) and some are "normal" and one of them is perfect and that's your Mary Sue, then that's fine. If Lorelai has a friend who's eaten one of Sookie's special magical risottos and that's why now she's so brilliant at everything she does - not ok.
If you're in Grey's Antatomy (now I'm just answering for the hell of it), and Shepherd transplants a genius's brain into a girl, making her amazingly clever, and Sloan performs the plastic surgery that's gonna make her flawlessly gorgeous - not ok. If a new girl joins the interns and she's great at everything, she's that talented she's managed to transplant her own brain and reduce her own nose, that's fine.
Do you get the general idea? I think what I'm trying to say is, I don't really want an explanation. (I guess because, to me, if there's a logical reason why she's that great, she's not a true Mary Sue or - and that's the bit I struggle with in my fics - she's a Mary Sue with an excuse/purpose, which gives the author an excuse for writing her ;).) But basically, yes, your character can be a vampire or a supernatural being, as long as that's not the reason why she's flawless. Does that make sense or have I confused the issue further? :)
Wolfie Gilmore
05-12-07, 12:51 AM
That all makes perfect sense, thank you!
Now I'm hooked on the idea of vampires in Gilmore Girls...but, think that would take me WAY off topic for the challenge. I might even try a Buffy fic. :)
Yay, tangent, looking forward to reading this baby. Thanks for entering. :)

03-01-08, 10:39 PM
To the best of my reckoning most series run along the lines of school or college years apart from, perhaps 6 and 7 (and definitely 8). This would probably mean somewhere midseason (amends is 3.10 for comaprison) I can live with a little creative licence for dating though as long as it fits in with established canon.

Cool stuff. I'll play a little fast and loose with dates...provided that it happens between two winter episodes, eh? For season 4, for example, it'd be some time after Pangs, wouldn't it? Maybe I should try a Bangel fic.
and when you say episodes, do you want it in script form?

Nice challenge, tangent! Wish I had time... :( If only I was physically capable of writing a short fic I might be able to fit it in my timetable but alas I am not equipped for short or speedy writing. Can't wait to read other people's entries though. :)

Love you man! Woo!
Have (finally) posted my results. Tangent, I apologise again for the (massive) delay, I wanted to post the feedback along with the banner but my mate who's making the banner is even busier than me (we're both working on subtitling Ashes to Ashes, or, well, she's working on it, I'm pretending like I'm working on it, but hey, pretending takes time) but she's made a start and you will get your well deserved banner eventually. Anyway that's partly why I'm so late posting your feedback (and partly cos... it's me).
So, again, soooo sorry about this, but it's finally in.
Aw, Wolfie, really tempted by your challenge. But I can tell you now, I'm gonna need longer. Would that be possible?

Cool. I don't know when - and I might go over the 3000 words limit as well because I've never written a fic under 5000 words. :) So that'll be a challenge and all. I'll make a start on it and get back to you in a bit?

Yeah, that's fine - goes for everyone too, if you're having troubles with deadlineage, I'm happy to be flexible. I'd rather have the best stories than the first if you know what I mean.
Going over the limit's fine too, just don't want to have to be wading through novels!

Wolfie,
Any restrictions to time settings or how far AU we can go?

Wolfie,
Any restrictions to time settings or how far AU we can go?
Weird, I could've sworn I replied to this yesterday. Forum must've eaten my post. Anyway, no, no restrictions re AU...however, I don't want it to be an "everyone goes bad" deal (eg they're all vampires...unless, they're all vampires, but most of them are vanilla vampires and the character you choose is all leather pants :D), because I'm curious to see the contrast between the one character going off the rails, and everyone else's reactions to that. You can kill people and stuff, that's fine, and you can set it whenever you like.
Oh and if anyone can make Andrew go off the rails in such a way that he actually seems cool...I will take my hat off to you and do a little dance on it.
Weird, I could've sworn I replied to this yesterday.
You did. :)
Another question.
They could get involved in crime, drugs, espionage, hacking of government departments (you know, more than they usually do, and for personal gain not saving the world purposes!), mercenary armies, underground fight clubs (always a classic), demon brothels (maximum extra points for a cameo from David Nabbit…), some kind of dodgy magic money making scheme…any nefarious activity you can think of.
So far I've got something more along the lines of out-of-control teenager. Is that too Charlotte Church and do I have to Ronnie Biggs him/her up a little?

That's fine too! It doesn't have to be totally extreme. Rowdy drunkeness and showing of pants in Heat magazine type antics is all good (if it counts as off the rails for them). Like, if it's Tara, I'd buy that. In fact, I'd pay to see it :D
Ok, not literally pay.

Very interesting challenge, Wolfie...I will have to write that Angel-and-Drusilla story that has begun to rattle around in my brain.
I have this problem with gender-flipping songs, though it wasn't the real inspiration..."Dru looks at me/I fake a smile so she won't see..."
Wolfie, I come a-hagglin'.

Okay so exactly what sort of going-over are we talking about here? Because I wouldn't want you to be wading through novels either, only I knew from the start I wouldn't be able to do anything with 3000 words, but because it sounded fun I gave it a go anyway and decided to worry about the admin later.
And sure enough, I'm already on 3100 words, and my character's hardly put on the leather pants yet. You don't get bad overnight, do you? There's gotta be a build-up to the badness. (That's my way of saying I don't write Bad Without Plot ;) )
Anyway, would you go up to 6-7000? :D I got a 8000 word story in for my challenge and it was perfectly manageable.

I am, like the kid in Please Mrs Butler, in the slow readers' group, so my "manageable" level is probably lower than most! But I reckon 6000 would be ok, yup!

Would it be at all possible to include House in your list of approved universes to badify? As I feel that Wilson may be getting tired of his subservience to House, and what's better for the wounded ego than going off the rails? :D If I have to twist your arm on this one, I might attempt a House/Buffy crossover of some description as compromise. Would you mind allowing me to do either of those two at all please?

Mabus - is your challenge (marked number six) for this one?
And...is everyone ok for mid april or need more time?
Well, since you ask... :)
I could do with a couple more days, say till the weekend (19th, is it?), cos I've done about 3/4 of my fic, but the hardest job's gonna be editing it cos I got a bit carried away and I'm having to cut massive chunks out - which I've started doing but it's a long process for me. So if I could have a few more days (also cos I appear to have an exam tomorrow... hmm) that would be really cool.
Sorry, I am aware I've done nothing but ask for extensions, this is the last time, promise, it's just that I've not managed to complete or post a fic in over a year, and I'd really like to break the cycle with this one.
Also, have we not got another challenge planned after this? That's a bit pants. :( I wouldn't be able to enter cos of exams but it's nice to see this section active. Anybody got ideas?

Fic about to be posted. And decide how it ends yourselves, but the one in my head would involve Read it first? Then continue!Wilson working for the Mayor in order to get access to his dark magics to save Cassie. He fails, and returns to Princeton Plainsboro Hospital. The girl is meant to be Cassie Newton from Season 7 episode "Help". Although I realise I had to muck about with continuity a bit as Cassie didn't know she had a heart mumur, but oh well. You could go with the Doctors telling her mum and not her if it really bothers you. Hope it's as enjoyable as the other entries have been.

Yes, the challenges have run out of hostees for the time being, alas.
Here's a suggestion. I don't think I'd be able to join in myself, but this is something I've seen run successfully on other fic groups - a drabble tag. Basically, whoever wants to join in signs up, and are arranged into a running order. And then the first person starts the story, in drabble form. They can either write a complete section of story in those hundred words, or drift off mid-sentence. Then the next person picks up the tale and writes the next hundred words, and so on. Either you work together to wrap the story up by the time you reach the end of the list of writers, or keep going round the list until the story reaches a natural conclusion.
Failing that, I could just set you a series of lists - ie list of places, list of guest characters, list of objects - and tell you all to write something that includes one item from each list! Or a list of titles that you'd have to pick something from...;)
Any other suggestions?

Wolfie, I've (finally) posted my entry. I apologise about the word count, it is slightly higher than what we discussed, although I've gotta say, there is an uncut version of this fic (which I'm gonna put in the Written because the Written Panel have been bored for months and that's not nice) and that's 24,000 words, so I have made an effort with yours. :p But I'm really sorry, I am working on my concision skills, I swear. And I completely don't expect your feedback anytime this year. ;) Thanks again for being so laid back. :)

I'm still learning the rules here, but I have noticed that there is a lack of new challenges recently, that being so.
If the Challenges were to be recognised as entrants to a Buffyforums Challenge Writer of The Year Award would that create more interest?
The winner of each Challenge would be entered to the Years Award.
The entries would all be judged in 4 catagories
1/ Each character 'sounding' like that character in the series.
2/ Being close to the word limit set.
3/ The number of characters used.
4/ The humour content.
There being 25 points for each catagory to a maximum 100 points total.
Should the Challenges be of a low word number count, each entry could be posted in that Challenge thread, which may generate greater readership and interest.
I have written several fanfics on other forums that could be suitable, they are.
a/ When Buffy was injured Riley, Anya, Xander and Willow did the patrolling. A 500 word maximum length piece using those four characters or others.
b/ About Xanders eye patch, his comments to Dawn about what was said, his want of an I Claudious type joke. A 500 word maximum length parody about his eye patch.
c/ When in Buffy Vs Dracula season 5, Giles asked Willow if she wanted to know of his plans to leave and would she keep it secret from the others. Her reply was,"Oh God, I guess, now I know there's something to know, just because I'm afraid that somebody'll know I know, you know." The challenge, a piece on that theme, totally confusing some-one with what you say. Maximum 1000 words
d/ Of Illyria's meeting Buffy and the Immortal. A 500 word piece.
To quote Willow the vampire from Doppelganger QUESTIONS? COMMENTS?

Hmm. Illyrian, I don't actually get your question
But you're right, the challenge area is slow at the moment, but it comes and goes. I have a new challenge up as of five minutes from now :xd and if you wanna join the list and make a challenge later, pm Enderswrath and he'll add you to the list :D
Hey Veverka, cool challenge! (OK, bad, bad timing because I was really gonna do my last assignment of the year today, and I have an exam tomorrow, and all I wanna do now is drabble... ;) :p )
Stupid question. Could we have a clear and precise definition of drabble? The one I've got basically says "a 100 word piece", but I was wondering if there are more restrictions than that or if absolutely anything goes. Also, but this is for my own personal development ;) can you or anybody post a couple of links to some drabbles they've enjoyed (or hated), preferably in the fandoms of your challenge?
Thanks.
Illyrian, thanks for your initiative, I think despite the slow pace of this section, we're quite happy with it on the whole, and - speaking for myself of course, other challenge folks correct me if I'm wrong - we like the fact that it's not too competitive, for me it's all about having fun writing, completely not about winning awards. But like Veverka says, have a look at the challenges and see if the current one takes your fancy, or even Challenge #6, as tangent was willing to reopen it. Join in the fun! :)

Good clarification Aissy. Yes, the way I understand it, a drabble should be exactly 100 words. But I'm happy for 95-105, I guess. But yes, points for the exact 100 word things! I just know I've written what I've counted as drabbles that haven't been exact.

Don't worry Veverka, all the entries are only 400 words, you'll be through judging in no time!
But seriously, it's fine if you want to cut off the entries (or even cut them off before I posted my last one)...totally understandable!
Yay for the new challenge!
You're right, Veverka, we should start entering litzie's now. Although, it's your own fault litzie, your late entry inspired me for one more entry for Veverka's... :p But I won't, I won't. It's closed now, gotta move on.
But may I suggest we get drabble challenges again in future? This one was perfect because it didn't take too long to write for, yet it didn't leave you wanting for more in the way single drabbles can. :)
I'll try and get something in for the new challenge... It's nice that you thought about us non-season-eight-ers too, thanks. :)
Ooh, good, I'm glad you like the non-season eight part too, I'm really interested to see what people can come up with for that part.
oh, and I remember you getting a word-extension for Wolfie's challenge when her limit was 3000 words...do you think you'll need one for this? Because I have a contingency specifically in mind!
And yes, let's definitely do some more drabble challenges - that was very fun and quick to enter.
oh, and I remember you getting a word-extension for Wolfie's challenge when her limit was 3000 words...do you think you'll need one for this? Because I have a contingency specifically in mind!
:p Well I didn't think I'd ever be able to write something in 100 words so... anything's possible. But yeah, if I get into a plot, I'm gonna struggle. But for this one I might try a kind of snapshot, so maybe I'll manage 3000 words. It really depends on what the fic does - I don't decide, do I? ;)
Thing is, I'm gonna try not to go mad with my entry because I'm a very slow writer, so when I write something long, it takes *all* my spare time. And I'm currently trying to spend some time on a fic I've been writing since September. Plus, like an idiot I've just gone and started a collaborative fic project, which is taking off way faster than I anticipated, so now I'm in that too... Bloody ADHD, I tell ya!
So can I tell you in a bit? But it's nice to know there's some leeway. :) I need to know what it is I'm doing over and it's a good but difficult challenge, is yours, litzie, because... Changing canon... Not liking something in canon... Ooh bloody hell. I've just re-read it. I can't do AtS, can I? I'm stuffed. :D
I just don't know Ats as well, so changing canon/fixing something that's broke doesn't appeal as much. But if you're completely desperate for ideas...we'll talk. :)
Naaah, I'm being silly, it would be more challenging for me to write Buffy anyway. (It's just more scary too.) :) But yeah, if I'm struggling for ideas, I'll give you a shout. Thanks.
Can it be something reeeeally huuuuuge? The thing we're changing? Not sure how I'd do it but it's the first thing that comes to mind.
It can be something huge if you want...if you can make me believe it without doing just a summary of how things have changed, if that makes sense...a snapshot rather than a montage.
The only stuff I'd say is too huge is the stuff that's integral to the show's premise: Buffy is a vampire slayer, there's a hellmouth under sunnydale...Angel is a vampire with a soul and a curse...that kind of stuff.
OK thanks.
It's huge in the way that it affected the show. But the show could still have carried on if it had happened in the way I'm thinking of changing it. The only thing is, I'm not sure about the *point* of changing it. :) So I might not go for that after all. :D
But keep it BtVS - I get you.
Excellent! And if you have any more specific questions that you want to pose away from the general thread, feel free to PM me! :) I'm really looking forward to reading these, running a challenge is fun!
Hey litzie!
Guess what I've come here to ask. Go on, guess. :p
May I have an extension please?
Not deadline, I think I'm doing ok for time, but word count. Trying very hard not to go nuts, keeping it nice and concise (god I need help), but I could do with 5000 words. Would that be ok? Please?
Yeah, go on... ;)
I'm fine with that if you really need it. I had a feeling you might!
BTW, is anyone else planning on entering my challenge? I'd be willing to extend the deadline if anyone else needs more time (if that's ok with the mods)...

I'm planning on entering, so extension good.
Thank you!
And extending the deadline is *always* a good plan.
Ok well woo for trying to get more entries! If it's ok with the mods, consider the deadline extended to July 31.
:)

Deadline extension is absolutely fine and dandy. :)
Litzie, help!!!
I've done it again - you know, being serious now, I'm really getting fed up with this. I think the problem's deeper than fanfic... I can't cope with word limits. Give you an example, I set the rules for my collaborative fic, which was my project so my rules, right? I set a word limit for that. 2 weeks later, I got rid of the word limit because I was the only one who kept going over my own word limit that I set for my own project. How insane is that.
And now, I checked the word count for your entry yesterday and I had about 1000 words left to get them out of this mess, so I thought okay, gonna be tough but I can do it. Checked again just now, and I'm on 5,062. And they're completely not out of this mess.
And I can't be arsed to edit, honestly can't, takes all the fun out of writing for me. Can I have an extension on the extension? I know it's stupid, don't remind me. I have an overwriting problem, I'm trying to get better but it's gonna take years. According to my sponsor, anyway.
Sorry about this, don't know what else to do, I want to enter this fic to your challenge but I don't want to be sneaky and enter without you knowing it's gonna be over the word limit.
PS- I've just checked my own challenge, and I didn't set a word limit for that, and I was fine with the entry I got (which was 8000 words), so it is doable.
Ok, go ahead...I'm covering my eyes with my hands because that is a LOT of words!...but, if you can try to limit it to under...7000?
Yes, yes, I'll try, promise, thank you, thank youuu!
Ok so my challenge is about to close...or, rather, it was supposed to close yesterday, but entries are just starting to trickle in, so - TWO MINUTE WARNING!! (/american football references). Get any last minute entries in today or over the weekend, I'm closing it for real at 9pm UK time on sunday!
:)
And the challenge is....closed! :) Thanks for entering, I'll have the awards done sometime this week.

Anyone mind if I go next. Got an idea if no-one else is up.
Go for it tangent! Looking forward to it!

Aww man, I'm on the list first. :p I think King of Cretins is up next. *Checks* Yup - UPCOMING CHALLENGES
King of Cretins
The_Narrator
But not fussed when I do mine tbh, long as I get to do one!

Right. Wasn't sure if we had an official list anymore. If the King is next then I'm not gonna go all cromwell on him.
Could I be added to said list though please.

Saying that though, I thought that two challenges were allowed to be running at once ... so, option's there. :)

I'll post my challenge later this evening or tomorrow :)
And I'll post my awards...tomorrow. Probably. :)

Okay, I've added Mark to the list.
And yes, it is allowed for two challenges to be running at the same time, although that might cut down on entrants whose attention is thus divided.
Hey, KoC, nice challenge! :) (Didn't know what you meant about Gunn but I guessed somehow, and can I just say... no, better not. :p )
OK, KingofCretins, I have a question. :)
I don't want to bore you with my personal demons, so if you require me to justify why I would do this, PM and I'll explain. ;)
Can I unvamp my vamp at the end? Or is that cheating?
KingofCretins
21-08-08, 01:05 AM
PM and explain, please :)
KoC, I have another question - sorry. :)
Is this strictly about the actual siring act or can we play with our vamps a bit too once the siring is done?
KingofCretins
03-09-08, 09:52 PM
I'm *more* interested in what happens next, I just didn't want anyone skipping ahead to dropping in on the character already as a vampire (unless you're covering the siring in flashback).

great challenge just one question, would faith be an acceptable character to use since shes not strictly considered a main character?
KingofCretins
04-09-08, 06:28 AM
Faith would definitely be an acceptable entry.
Hey KoC!
I need a mega deadline extension for my entry. Can you give us till the end of the month? If I can't meet the deadline, I'll still probably complete it and post it in the Jossverse Fiction section at some point.
Let me know. :)
KingofCretins
16-09-08, 07:31 PM
I will extend the challenge through September 30th, 11:59pm ET. Anyone that has contacted me, your character is approved.
Huh. I was about to say I wasn't going to make it, but with that much of an extension, I just might. Ran into serious logistical problems.
Thanks for the extension, but unfortunately, I doubt I'm gonna make it this time. :( I start back at uni this week, and I already have an assignment due (ok, leftover from last year but still) and I've only barely started my entry so, realistically... can't see it happening.
I'm gutted cos I was really getting into it. I'll definitely carry on with it and post it in Jossverse Fiction at a later point.
To my deep regret, a serious issue has come up that I will have to fix ASAP. Since my challenge entry is not quite finished, I will not be able to complete it in time. I will still try to finish and post it for the enjoyment of others eventually.

I've heard no fewer than 4 people now who have entries that they have started but not completed. I want to read them, but I also want them to participate. So I'm going to go with a big extension -- 11:59pm ET, October 31st.
I have not read any of the submissions yet, as is my policy, so any of you who want to edit, extend, or revise prior to that time can edit your posts.
The_Narrator, we're allowed to have two challenges, running, so go ahead and post yours if you want.
Ooh that's a nice surprise extension! I might be able to have a go, then - hopefully. Cool. :)
The_Narrator
29-09-08, 09:08 PM
Challenge will be posted shortly. :)
Woo for new challenge and woo for an extension! I will do my darndest to finish my entry for KoC's challenge, and hopefully enter The_Narrator's challenge as well! *salutes the General of fanfiction writing*
Nice challenge, Narrator! I'll try and enter both! Emphasis on "try"... ;)
"Evil Genius" is finally complete. It is, however, 5645 words long--nearly double what you wanted, Dan. And it's pretty sparely written at that. Will that do?
The_Narrator

Is anyone planning on entering my challenge? If so, I'll ask a mod for a deadline extension. :)
KingofCretins

You don't need mod permission to extend. I want to enter, but I'll need an extension.
tangent
07-11-08, 11:24 AM
I've got something in development too. Shouldn't be too long but might miss sunday by a smidge.
I might possibly enter but it won't be for like...at least two weeks. All my current spare time is being sucked up by visa applications and publicity for my choir, so I just don't have the time or energy to write...
And all my time is being taken up by uni. :cutecry: Hence me not making KoC's deadline or the Narrator's despite the lovely multiple extensions. It's now November and I'm actually still writing the final chapter of my summer fanfic!
I'll try and enter whatever challenge is going next time I'm in-between essays and placements...
The_Narrator

OK ladies, gents, vulcans, wookiees, time lords etc. etc. The deadline has been extended to 1st December, which gives an extra 3 weeks. :) Remember, minimum is only 500 words ... that's a sentence a day ... *smiles charmingly and winningly*
