Stock images can be a fantastic resource to add greater depth and meaning to a piece of Fanart, and the way in which they are used either as a manipulation or blended image – can really make that piece of Fanart stand out from all of the rest. I know that I haven’t been using stock images long, but there are some stock veterans out there who have completely mastered the art. This category is our first of the “Techniques” categories, and people have been voting based on who used the stock technique in the best manner to get the best result. And I am extremely honoured to announce our ten winners of this category.

The composition of a wallpaper can be its making or breaking point – as the placement of the images can give the piece, it’s direction, flow, and can lead a viewer into understanding the meaning of your piece. Using the composition to your advantage can make for a truly extraordinary wallpaper, and this category is here to honour the technique of using composition to do just that. This category will now finish off our “Techniques” category grouping awards. These have certainly been the most popular categories in terms of nominees – and this category in particular received 29 nominees, the highest number of nominees in any category along with only another 2 categories.

Colour is such a huge factor in our art, especially with all of the symbolic connotations that colours hold, not to mention the mood and atmosphere that can be created through cold and warm colours. Similarly lighting can change the look of the piece, highlighting the contrasts between light and dark and can really add to a pieces overall look and meaning.
