The people have spoken! In addition to the Free-for-all posting day on Sept. 22, Round 25 will run from Nov. 16-Dec. 2! Signup are available now at: https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/627381.html

Go get your posting date before they are all gone!

Will there be free for all days again in round 25 itself?

EDIT: No worries, I've read the LJ post and see that there are. :biggrin1:

Heads up, we're having a Seasonal Spuffy Free-for-All day today! All contributions welcome (within the pretty lenient rules)!

Happy autumn equinox, all! Over on Seasonal Spuffy, we've already got two free-for-all entries:

a S12 issue 4 comics art edit (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/628012.html) by Double Dutchess, "a visual comment on the last issue of the comics season 12, reflecting where Spuffy is at right now". It's worksafe, but contains SPOILERS for season 12! It's also cute and really funny.

a moodboard / aesthetic for “Tales From a New Body” (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/628389.html) [the wonderful Spuffy fic by OffYourBird], made by badwolfjedi! Worksafe, as well. Rarely has a rec post been so gorgeous to look at. ^^

I assume it would be spamming to link every post here as they happen? So I think I'll link all the rest of them tomorrow.

Thank you, Double Dutchess. The rules in question are over here: seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/profile

I wish I was better at organising my time that I could have contributed. Going to go and have a nosey at the entries.

Aw, Stoney, better luck with the fall round? This was just a quick little event, blink and it's gone -- but I see you did contribute comments! That's valuable, too. :)

So in addition to the two posts I linked yesterday, people posted some more ARTWORK. I'd say it all ranges from pretty good to excellent, skewed heavily towards the excellent. <3 All the images are worksafe.

badwolfjedi: Moodboard / Aesthetic inspired by Pumpkin Spike by Sunalso (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/628680.html)
sandy_s: A banner and an icon (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/628839.html)
teragramm: Autumn Equinox Banner (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/629170.html)
nmcil12: Banner - Buffy Season 12 (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/629567.html)
nmcil12: Banner - The Fall Season (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/630226.html)

We also have this collaborative word playground.

I hope you'll manage to contribute something to the Fall round! There are multiple free-for-all days then, so it should be a bit easier to catch one. (Says the person who still has no idea if she'll manage to finish anything for her signed-up date, and who will most likely be forced to quickly improvise something the night before :D)

And here's a summary of our future plans, in case something slipped your mind in the excitement of the free-for-all. (Also, some of this hasn't been said in this thread before.)

Starting next Sunday, there will be a series of tutorial posts about How to LiveJournal. Those posts will only happen on our tumblr blog (seasonal-spuffy.tumblr.com) and Facebook page (facebook.com/sspuffy). Would it be useful to link every post here, or only all of them at the end, or not needed at all? Please let me know if someone is interested but reading on tumblr/Facebook is a problem.
The banner challenge for the fall round will open officially on October 16. Artists are free to start work whenever they like, though, as teragramm assures us that banner challenge rules (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/613573.html) rarely change between rounds. Questions about the banner challenge are best asked over here (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/627963.html?mode=reply#add_comment) (LiveJournal account not necessary to ask).
The Fall 2018 round (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/627381.html) is a little under 2 months away now -- it will run November 16 to December 2 on LiveJournal, as I think you know. All the posting days are filled (yay!), BUT one can still sign up (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/627381.html) to share a day, and anyone may post without signup on the free-for-all days: Nov 22, Nov 25, and Dec 1-2.
The Winter Solstice free-for-all is on December 21. If you have any ideas about cool special things we could try for that event, now's the time to suggest them! However, as this fall equinox event showed, we still do just great when we keep things simple. <3

Is this going to be a step by step, idiots guide? If so, then it would be great if it were posted here because I don't have a clue and would love to learn

Cool, I'm glad you're interested! I plan to make 6 posts, covering navigation features, commenting and other interaction with posts, communities (what active comms there are and how one works), and posting. *cringes at own ambition* It's definitely meant to be beginner-level, and I'm capable of getting crazy detailed, so yes, step by step, but I'll try to strike some sort of balance so the posts aren't too huge.

By posted here, do you mean links to it, or would it be significantly more useful if I made a forum thread?

Our banner challenge is open already! :)

Here's teragramm's announcement post: https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/630610.html
And here's everything she said...

For our Fall 2018 round of seasonal_spuffy (seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com), we are again doing our traditional banner competition.

The theme this round is Road Trip - interpret that as you will, or not. It's up to you.

Here are the rules for the challenge:

- The deadline is November 9th, midnight(EST).

- You can submit up to three banners.

- Banners must be no larger than 800x400 pixels and no smaller than 750x300 pixels (anywhere in between is fine too.)

- Banners must be new and anonymous, so please do not post your banners elsewhere until the results have been posted.

- Submit entries as a comment to this post (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/630610.html?mode=reply#add_comment) or on DW (https://seasonal-spuffy.dreamwidth.org/878014.html?mode=reply)). All comments will be screened.

- If you don't have a LiveJournal or Dreamwidth account, you can email the banner to sspuffy@gmail.com. Make sure to put Banner in the subject line.

- After the winner is announced, the winner will be asked to "sign" their banner. Please remember to leave room on your banner for your tag/signature.

- When submitting a banner, give us both the image and url. (See example below)

https://ic.pics.livejournal.com/teragramm/1714311/127609/127609_300.png

https://ic.pics.livejournal.com/teragramm/1714311/127609/127609_300.png

The poll with all the pretties will go up the day after the deadline.

Past banners can be seen here (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/495796.html).

Any questions, just ask!

Have fun and show us your fabulous work!!

I split the communities topic in two parts, so this week's post is just a list of Buffyverse communities currently active on LiveJournal, with some commentary. Next week, I'll talk about How To do things with communities.

Of the older communities I'd say sb-fag-ends (https://sb-fag-ends.livejournal.com/) is definitely still worth checking out, even though it's not active anymore. Lots of great short stories there (and the occasional other stuff).

Absolutely. I was really tempted to say just that in the post, but couldn't justify including just one older community. So I consoled myself with the thought that it's featured in feliciacraft's list.

I think I'll also make a LiveJournal post for this one. The plan is that it will be easier to skip over sections in that post, if I manage to collapse everything using spoiler tags.

So good to hear they helped, Priceless. We'd be happy to answer any other questions as they arise, and there's one last tutorial post planned for this weekend. But now...

The banner poll is up! (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/631928.html)

Some beautiful Spuffy banners were submitted to our contest... some of them by BuffyForums users... and it’s time to vote for your favorite! We will use the winning banner to redecorate Seasonal Spuffy for the upcoming Fall 2018 round, so pick the one that you’d like to see every time you open one of the Seasonal Spuffy pages for the next 4-6 months.

To see the banners and vote, you can go to LiveJournal (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/631928.html) or to Dreamwidth (https://seasonal-spuffy.dreamwidth.org/878819.html). Please only vote once.

The polls are open till Thursday, November 15.

If you don’t have an LJ or DW account, you can still vote by commenting on the LiveJournal post (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/631928.html). Please fill out this form if you vote in an anonymous comment:

<b>Platform - (Tumblr, Buffy Forum, Facebook etc.)</b>
<b>User name/alias - :</b>
<b>My favorite banner is #:</b>

In case you have trouble finding where exactly to add a comment, this link (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/631928.html?mode=reply#add_comment) will open the comment box for you.

Enjoy the banners! May the best artwork win. :)

Let's kick off Round 25 of Seasonal Spuffy! (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/632329.html)

The Fall 2018 round of seasonal_spuffy, a cornucopia of new Spike/Buffy fanworks, is about to start! A few reminders before we jump in:

This round will run from November 16th through December 2nd. If you signed up, please double-check the schedule. If you didn't sign up, you can still post on the free-for-all days: November 22 and 25, December 1 and 2.

Please do take a look at the rules before you post. They were updated in September.

If you'd like to participate in another way, consider leaving feedback for our talented fan creators! Currently, you can comment on Seasonal Spuffy posts even without logging in.

This round will take place only on LiveJournal, but links to new entries will be available on our Dreamwidth, tumblr, and Facebook. We'll post some links elsewhere, too.

If you could use some help with the site or the event, try the tutorials, and don't hesitate to talk to the mods. :) thenewbuzwuzz, teragramm, and slaymesoftly will be happy to assist. Feel free to message us or comment on a mod post, or email us at sspuffy@gmail.com if you prefer.

All right. 25 rounds, wow! Some current participants were here for the very first round of Seasonal Spuffy, organized by itmustbetuesday in October-December 2005. Amazing! :) If you've done Seasonal Spuffy before, as a creator or a reader, do you remember your first round? Maybe there's anything you'd like to say to our new participants?

And if you're joining in for the first time, we're so happy you're here! How are you feeling? Would you like to introduce yourself in a comment so we can say hi? (It's okay if you don't.) Maybe there's anything you'd like to ask our more... seasoned participants?

Regardless, have fun, everyone! Here's to another great round! :)

What Became is a fantastic start for a Spuffy fanfic and a very original setting (in the Acathla hell dimension). I do hope, the writer completes the story and publishes it on Elysian Fields (because otherwise I am going to miss it).

Javajunkies art is also great. I wish I could write a road trip fic, so I could ask for one of them.

Also. Happy Tie Spike to a Chair Day! Today, anyone is welcome to post new Spuffy work to our LiveJournal community (seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com) without any kind of advance warning. The sky’s your limit as far as the medium goes, with the exception of all-human AUs. Please see the rest of the rules here (seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/profile), and have fun! If you’re unsure how posting works, try this beginner’s guide (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/631381.html), and feel free to ask. :)

Remember that we have three more free-for-all days in this round: this Sunday, November 25th; and next weekend, December 1st and December 2nd! The last day of the round can get crowded, so please aim for the earlier days if you can. Thank you!

Yesterday or today, depending on your time zone:

Beautiful "Road Trip" Fiction Banners (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/639096.html) by teragramm, up for grabs last time I checked, in case someone could use a banner for a Spuffy road trip fic
Nifty Comic Graveyard Bookmarks (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/639657.html) by teragramm
Fic: Ripples on a Hellmouth (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/639894.html) (Chapter 1-2), the start of a new time travel AU by stuffnonsense
And the prologue and first chapter of another fic by stuffnonsense, "(k)Nickers Off Ready When I Come Home (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/640317.html)", which is a sequel of "The Sharing Game (https://archiveofourown.org/works/3356783/chapters/7342691)". (I highly recommend "The Sharing Game" and everything else stuffnonsense might write.)

And the last two posting day contributions:

Passion4Spike posted Chapter 5 of "Spike's a Good Boi" (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/640977.html), the chapter where a rather unique road trip starts in her story. She has included a summary of previous chapters in case some readers don't want to read the whole thing.

sandy_s posted The Couple that Road Trips Together (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/641231.html), an 8400-word oneshot that she broke in 7 parts because LiveJournal length limitations weren't cooperating. The next part is linked at the very bottom of each LiveJournal post, right above the deep blue footer, or you can find them all here, in Sandy’s creator tag (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/tag/creator%3A%20sandy_s), along with so many other good things she has posted on Seasonal Spuffy starting from the year 2005.

That's it for posting days! The weekend is free for all. Anyone may post without signup. Rules are still at seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/profile, and additional instructions on how to create a post are pinned at the top of seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com.

Wow. :) SO. Round 25 is now closed. Thank you for being part of it and helping make it awesome. <3

There will soon be an index post with links to all entries (though I guess that might be less important for you, since this thread is mostly links anyway?).

Also, we have long since scheduled one separate free-for-all day on December 21st, so if anyone wanted to create something for round 25 but didn't quite make it, this could be that someone's chance. There will be a bit more information about this free-for-all day within a couple of days from now.

ETA: ALSO also, here's the Seasonal Spuffy category (https://dark-solace.org/elysian/browse.php?type=categories&catid=48) on Elysian Fields, in case you prefer to read there. Some stories have already been reposted.

How was the round for you? Maybe you have any suggestions about what we could try doing differently for future rounds, or what we should keep doing just as we do now? :D

I wish I hadn't been so pushed for time with other commitments but I've only freed up slightly this week and I'm not sure Dec 21st will be a possibility either, what with family birthdays and the festive festivities! I'll see if I can fit something in, but it's just not been a great time for me. But regardless of my own lack of contribution, I've really enjoyed seeing what others have produced. I thought this round was great and loved how much the theme featured through the pieces strongly.

Hiya, we're starting to plan the spring 2019 round, and you can help us decide where/when/how much it should be: poll on LiveJournal (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/648172.html), copy of same poll on Google Forms (https://goo.gl/forms/SaqmUp5n3WpEkIvB2). Thanks!

You have been active voters, but there were so many good theme suggestions that we have a three-way tie. Let's put the leading options in a room and let them wrestle it out (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/648597.html): shall it be Dark Carnival, Déjà Vu, or "Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come."?

The poll will be up until Friday noon, New York time, or until we have a winner, whichever takes longer.

As before, you can vote in a comment instead.

If you already voted for one of these themes and you don't recast your vote, I'll assume you haven't changed your mind. (But the graph will be prettier if you do vote again.)

Thank you for your patience! This is the final thing we need to take care of before we can open signup. :)

The round will run from May 2 through May 22 on LiveJournal and Dreamwidth. There will be four free-for-all days: May 6, May 12, May 18-19. The theme will be "Dark Carnival". :)

09-03-19, 12:23 AM
I was really hoping for one of the other themes that I had an immediate idea for. :cutecry: Ah well, I'll let 'dark carnival' wash over me a bit and see if anything bubbles to the surface. I'll definitely read/view/comment at the least though. Looking forward to it. :)

It wasn't my first choice either (not in the first voting round anyway) but I can see some things I could do with it. And the theme has the potential for good fic.

Btw this was my first association with the theme, which is in no way related to BtVS:

I love this, huge thanks for sharing. It's really helpful for trying to start to build feeling/associations that might lead to a piece. I'm not sure it's a tone that appeals much to me for a Spuffy fanart piece, but I can see why it might have stood out to others. I'll dwell. :D

Whoa, thought I had notifications turned on for this thread, but I thought wrong. Double Dutchess, thank you for saying what needed to be said! <3

To reiterate: as I told flow, the theme is only there to inspire. If you've already got your idea, then the theme is superfluous for you. You don't have to do anything at all with the theme if it doesn't fit into your work. Your entry just has to be Spuffy, yours, previously unposted, and not an all-human AU. :) I personally ignored all themes for a couple of years straight, and as you can see they didn't exactly kick me out of the comm for that.

Also, yes, that is exactly the Euridyce you're thinking of! ^^ "Beg the Liquid Red" debuted on Seasonal Spuffy, as I just noticed by checking her creator tag (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/tag/creator%3A%20eurydice72). I'm thrilled she's planning to participate! I think outright asking her to write more Spuffy would not be a good approach, because that can stress an author out, BUT she might like to make some new Spuffy friends, as she did just make a public LiveJournal post asking where people talk about Spuffy these days. ;) I told her here, among other places.

This is my first time doing Seasonal Spuffy in YEARS, so you have no idea how incredibly nervous I am about it. Excited, too, because I absolutely love the theme. That was part of why I decided to hell with my nerves and signed up. Now I'm just sorting through ideas, trying to find the angle that's most mine and won't run out of control. Because that is always my weakness, lol.

BTW, thank you for thenewbuzwuzz for pointing this forum out to me! I've never stopped loving Buffy, but I've been itching for a rewatch since playing in a Buffy RPG in February. That started last weekend, and we're already halfway through S3 because we just can't stop. I'm so glad to find others who love the show, too. :)

Hi Eurydice,

welcome to this forum. It`s so great to see you here! Yes it is amazing that you can still find people who are talking about the show more than twenty years after it first aired.

You will have to post five times in other people`s threads before you are allowed to open your own thread. As soon as you are able, you are very welcome to post any questions or themes for discussion. This forum is very friendly and fun to be. There are many Spuffy fans around here but of course the whole variety of fandom can be found. We have comic fans, there are users who create fanart (and have battles), we have a fanfiction section, there are games to be played and there is a rewatch thread with reviews for each episode that has been ongoing for years. It´s currently at season six Seeing Red. If you are interested in following that thread or another reviews for a particular season or episode I`d be glad to link you to it.

I hope you have fun around here and I am looking forward to seeing you here!

P.s.: I`ll be posting something too for Seasonal Spuffy. It is my first attempt at writing fanfiction, so I am nervous as hell as well.

Hey y`all,

I have just created an account at livejournal for my entry for seasonal spuffy. Just two questions - where can I check the site time? And the username flow was not available anymore. Therefore I registered on lifejournal as flowspuffy. Do I have to give the author`s name with flowspuffy then or is it okay to use simply flow because that`s the name I use everywhere else in the fandom?

flow

Double Dutchess
03-04-19, 03:22 PM
Yay! I'm not sure what you mean by "the site time" but I don't think you need it anyway, because you just stick to your own time for posting. That is, your posting day starts and ends at midnight *German* time. See "When we post" in the Seasonal Spuffy Guidelines (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/profile).

Best ask a Seasonal Spuffy mod about the name use. But my guess is that in the description "flow" is probably fine, but if you want to be "flow" also in the author tag it's probably good to request this specifically.

flow
03-04-19, 03:34 PM
Ah I see, I should have read the guidelines :-)

Thank you so much!

Just to make sure - can I simply copy and paste my text from my word file?

flow

Double Dutchess
03-04-19, 03:50 PM
I'm pretty sure you can do copy-paste from Word, but it's probably safer to copy from plain text to keep unwanted Word formatting code from getting copied along.

Oh and I would advise sticking to the *old* visual editor, I have heard bad things about the new one.

Most important tip: be sure to look at thenewbuzwuzz's awesome and exceedingly detailed "How to Post an Entry to Seasonal Spuffy - the Beginner's Guide" stuck at the top of the Seasonal Spuffy LJ!

Yay flow, so glad you joined. I shall follow you (not sue if that's what they do on LJ, but I'm a twitterer really)

thenewbuzwuzz
03-04-19, 08:55 PM
flow: when you post, you can put "flow" or whatever name you like in the post header, and we will use that to credit you when we link to the post. Do you want your creator tag to say "flow"? We can do that.

Copying pre-formatted text from anywhere into the LJ visual editor can make the post look weird. LJ might keep the white background from Word, and if the background color in the current Seasonal Spuffy theme is not white, then it may look like all of your text is highlighted white. It's safer to copy-paste into the HTML editor instead, or copy into the visual editor from a plain text program like Notepad, and then add only the formatting you need.
Double Dutchess is right about everything else, as well. Thank you, DD!

In other news, the banner contest is open! :)

The theme is “Dark Carnival”, but it’s up to you whether you use it.
The deadline is April 25th (midnight EST).
You can submit banners via LJ comment, DW comment, or email.
More info HERE (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/651309.html). Have fun, and show us your fabulous work!

P.S. It turns out my email spam filters are not fond of BuffyForums notifications at all, so you CAN ask questions here, but it might take me several days (or more) to notice them. And today: vid "Choosey Susie (https://seasonal-spuffy.livejournal.com/636409.html)" by Double Dutchess!

Question:
how useful is it for you folks to have such links to new entries here in this thread during the round? Is there anyone who's interested but isn't already following us on LiveJournal? (If somebody doesn't know how to get email notifications about LiveJournal posts & would like to know, I'm glad to assist.)

To me it’s very useful, because I don’t follow the entries at livejournal!

flow

Stoney
21-04-19, 10:14 AM
It helps me personally as I'm always on here, but I rarely ever go on Live Journal. In fact I'm normally prompted to by seeing something linked here that I fancy looking at. I then look through my messages when I've gone on LJ. I don't have email notifications instead because they'd just get drowned in the masses of emails I get and more readily deleted without flicking through in trying to keep my email clear. So it works for me like this, but if the messages stopped coming on here to prompt me I'd probably start trying to get in the habit of checking LJ now and then anyway.

TriBel

I don't follow Live Journal - bugger me, I can't follow a map or GPS...or Stoney's post above!

On a different note:

@thenewbuzwuzz.

I've just had a quick glance at Slaymesoftly's entry. :D

"The jury may still be out on my father,” he responded smoothly, “but, no, my mother loves me… in her own somewhat warped way. The name didn’t carry quite the same negative connotations when I first got it. I had to earn that.”

“They named you Lucifer, but didn’t think it would make people think you were… you know, evil?”

“As I said, those connotations didn’t exist at the time. But enough about me.” He gave her a warm smile."

Yay! Love this...and the remarks about The First Evil. And Lucifer's on Prime Video!

And Lux which means "bringing light". My head is making all sorts of connections between the Temple of Luxor, the temple in End of Days, light and basking etc. I'v also managed to include LA after the fall, the Luxor Hotel and the Elvis impersonators. :rotf: Tell Slaymesoftly thanks...I really enjoyed that!

Cool, thanks, everyone! There shall be links here, then.

TriBel, I passed on the message. :)

As a reminder, though, anonymous comments are currently allowed on Seasonal Spuffy, and they will prooobably stay allowed through May. So if anyone wants to talk directly to an author, it's as simple as we could possibly make it. We aren't even demanding any CAPTCHAs at the moment (we like to live dangerously).
