9-1-1 Calls on Charisma Carpenter to Get Season 2 Off to a Crazy Start
By Matt Webb Mitovich / July 16 2018, 12:18 PM PDT

Charisma Carpenter has a 9-1-1 crisis that won’t get resolved for a couple months yet.

TVLine has learned exclusively that the Buffyverse favorite is set to guest-star in the Season 2 premiere of Fox’s new hit drama, playing a 9-1-1 caller who has found herself “stuck between a rock and a hard place,” and in the most crazy of ways.

Ryan Murphy’s breakout procedural kicks off Season 2 on Sunday, Sept. 23, following Fox’s NFL coverage. It settles into its regular Monday-at-9 pm slot the following night, leading out of The Resident‘s own sophomore opener.

Carpenter previously guest-starred on Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s Scream Queens. In addition to the aforementioned Buffy and of course Angel, her other previous TV credits include Veronica Mars, Greek, The Lying Game and episodes of Lucifer and Chicago P.D.

I have never heard of this show. Does anyone watch it? Is it worth watching and can it be seen in the UK?

Tim Minear is a showrunner for 9-1-1, which I did not know.

darn, I wish she was gonna be on the show as a regular. sigh. she seems only to get guest slots. Sad b/c though she's not a fabulous actress, she has great screen presence and she's a solid character actor performer. She would never carry her own show, I don't think, but she could be great in an ensemble piece, as we all saw.

I liked the beginning of 911 and how the characters were developed. I am so unsurprised to find that a buffyverse alum is involved in running things.

I agree, I think CC would be great in an ensemble piece, and she has great comic timing. I think she's still getting cast as that 'hot' chick, which is fine as she is beautiful, but I wish she'd be offered different roles, something more rounded that didn't depend on how she looked in a tight dress.

Well I sincerely hope this never happens to anyone on this board . . .

Charisma Carpenter's 'Naughty' 9-1-1 Visit Postponed by Network Censors
By Matt Webb Mitovich / August 2 2018, 11:36 AM PDT

Charisma Carpenter has been put on hold by 9-1-1, after Fox censors spiked the R-rated crisis that would have befallen her character.

“It was naughty,” showrunner Tim Minear explained to TVLine on Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour. “We were all set to go, and Standards and Practices would just not let me do it.”

As first reported by TVLine, Carpenter — who previously worked with Minear on Angel — was to play a woman who finds herself “stuck between a rock and a hard place,” it was teased at the time. Minear at TCA elaborated that Carpenter’s character was going to dial 9-1-1 when her lover collapses dead atop her while hopped up on Viagra. Because of vaginal “clamping” going on at the time of the man’s heart attack, he wound up “stuck” inside his lover — a real-life situation known as penis captivus.

Though a similar case figured into a storyline on CBS’ Code Black, Fox’s own Standards and Practices department declined to give 9-1-1 a green light. “Our version was different,” Minear noted.

“As soon as I have the perfect thing for Charisma, she will be on the show,” he said. “I was so looking forward to working with her again, I’ve got to find the other perfect role.”

Minear then had to point out, “Last season I used Sean Maher, from Firefly, in a scene where a 7-foot tapeworm came out of a guy’s ass. So apparently that was OK!”
