Leading from a conversation on the Season 4 Pos/Neg thread, are there any fights that you enjoyed as much as any slayer/vampire battles that did not involve a slayer or a vampire?

Do you know off the top of my head I can't think of one.

Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman — October 30, 1974. :xd Does that count?

No TriBel that does not count :p I do not feel you are taking this thread seriously :sadwalk:

What about Willow going after Glory after she brain-sucks Tara? I know that involves the supernatural and Buffy eventually intervenes, but it was a compelling fight.

I now have my *smug* face on. This is like a vamp's game face but more patronizing.

Wesley plus Illyria vs Cyrus was pretty badass.
I agree on the Willow vs Glory fight. Really great scene.
And then Connor vs Sajhan was awesome, especially the slow motion glass break scene where Connor gets his memories then wins.

Connor vs Sajhan was a great fight.

I liked Riley vs Angel. And AtS S5 was full of great fights and the ending was iconic.

And that would count...other than Angel being a vampire. Besides - I prefer Buffy throwing them both into walls!

Wesley vs his father - killer ending. Literally.

I really dislike this fight. Wesley can shoot his own father dead, but he can't ask Fred out for a drink? Just silly. Then nothing changes between Wes and his dad. We see him ringing home and talking to his father in the same way. Neither Wesley or his relationship with his father is changed by the incident. You can probably tell I'm not a Wesley fan :D

The Buffy Bot* and the Hellions (personally, I think this is one of the saddest scenes in the whole series).

*She doesn't count as a Slayer - right?! She just doesn't!

Anything the BuffyBot does is amazing, so I think this is definitely allowable :D

I adore Wesley, and things take time to change.

How on earth can anyone hate Wes? He is the very prince of manpain, and the king of tragedy!

I am pretty hard on Wes :D I don't hate him, but I don't believe that he changes as much as everyone thinks he does. He's still the same paranoid ineffectual man at the end as he was when we first see him in S3 BtVS. I don't see the great changes that others see in him.

Big Wes fan here too. So, you think the Wes we first met in Buffy was the same man at the end of AtS?

Not exactly the same, but similar and not as different as fans would have us believe. The way he fluttered about Cordy in BtVS S3 is virtually the same as he fluttered about Fred in AtS. He believed a prophecy about Angel killing his son, in that paranoid way that he accused Angel of having something to do with Fred's death. He's essentially still the same and I think that's what Wesley's story tells us, that even though we seem to have changed dramatically, really we've only moved a step.

Hmmm.... I like fights that are not cool.

I enjoy Xander/Willow/Giles patrolling in S5. Same as Xander/Willow/Oz trying to fight the vampires in the summer between S2 and S3. I LOVE Helpless because Buffy had to fight without her powers. Also, Dawn doing any kind of fighting in S7.

Other fights I enjoy that, of course, include my man without vamps

Xander vs Jack in The Zeppo.

Xander vs Glory's minions in Intervention.

Xander vs Frat Dude in Reptile Boy, and I simply love how Giles is just standing there :D

Doesn't that make it more realistic though? We all grow and we can learn new skills and gain confidence but we never really leave our core essence behind.

Sadly to be honest I think you're in the minority with that one. I think the general public love such things, otherwise wise the Matrix movie would have consisted of people thumping each other with rolling pins.

Well, given this thread is in the Jossverse: General Discussions section, I consider Firefly and Serenity fair game.

So... all of River Tam's fights.

Most of the non-Slayer and non-vampire fights in the Buffyverse don't have the same 'meaningfulness' (for the audience) and 'emotional investment' (for the audience) as any fight from a Slayer or the non-Darla Fanged Four vampires.

I'd put Buffybot versus Glory's minions over any non-Slayer and non-vampire fight in the Buffyverse. That the Buffybot naturally moves to save Giles is very telling regarding Spike and Buffy/Spike. Plus, the Buffybot is delightful.

I'd put Giles moving to fight the Master as being better than any of his actual fights.

Willow versus Glory and Willow versus Amy didn't have the resonance of Buffy vs. Angel and Buffy vs. Spike simply because Willow/Glory and Willow/Tara was never a thing.

Xander, Riley, Gunn, Dawn, etc. If they all fought Drusilla at once, Drusilla likely would kill all of them. An injured Buffy could make Angel and Enhanced Riley immediately 'stand down'.

It's so much more realistic. Most of us take tiny baby steps where change is concerned. But the fans seem to believe that Wesley is the character that has changed most throughout the show, and is virtually unrecognisable from when we first meet him, and I tend to disagree.

I do want to argue - but I don't want to hijack the thread. I mean a lot of this goes to what character development is, in all of us as well as fictional characters. What's the proper thing to do here?

Start a new thread !

As for the fights....well there is that pillow fights with the potentials, but I don`t know, if it counts, because it is just a dream.

Giles and Willow were awesome as well.

Start a new thread:D I've started a 'which character changed the most' thread so you could post your thoughts on Wes there? I am not going to argue much, because I've only seen AtS twice all the way through, and so my knowledge of Wes isn't that deep :s

But if you look at Willow you can see that she is still the insecure nerd underneath it all. It's why she stayed dark, in part at least, and it's why she was so passive with Kennedy. Cordelia is and remained outspoken and in charge through it all. Spike is still Love's Bitch, and Angel uses the personality traits of Angelus to take down the Black Thorn. I think part of why the show works is while the characters have their arcs, in a lot of ways they are fundamentally the same. But the Wesley who slept with Lilah, and had Justine in a cage also had his memories removed.

Best fight ever - Harmony and Xander

You do have a point, but still they - Willow, Spike, Cordy - have changed a lot. Their personalities, the same, but the way they approach life and its challenges, different.

All three went through big challenges: Willow dealing with magic made her reach a point of great power, and then the fallout; Spike through love wanted to change and managed to do something (un)life-changing; and Cordy evolved as a person, but then got involved with some big challenges (like having visions), that made her ascend. Xander changed; but it was more like he grew up and learned, like all of us poor normal humans.

Obs.: Harmony is a vampire... ;)
