Challenge 51: My Emotions Give Me Power

I can't believe its time for my first challenge already :)

Over the past few months I kept trying to think of something for my challenge and in the end I decided on the idea of Emotions and the range of emotions which can shown in various fandoms etc..., After looking up emotions I stumbled across a website with a list of primary and secondary emotions. I love seeing the range of emotions shown in different media and how in a way they are "portrayed" and its always interesting to see how others interpret and show those emotions.

There was actually 3 groups of emotions but each set branched off with more examples so I decided to keep to the two instead

Feeling: Sadness

This piece is made from the last scene in the BTVS episode Amends.
Angel tries to kill himself by waiting for the sunrise, Buffy finds him and starts to tell him why he shouldn't kill himself, she cries a bit and then it begins to snow. (I'm not very good at explaining my pieces... :lol: )

Feeling: Joy- Zest, Glee...

Being on the massive Doctor Who kick I practically always am on, I was rewatching the end of the most recent season.
I reckon its aired everywhere, but I'll put my explanation in spoiler tags anyway, because I'm a sweetie.

Pretty much, I was enamoured by the Master in the third season, with his ... 15th(?) and most sexy regeneration.
And I was pretty much enamoured, enchanted, captivated, turned into a wimpering lust feulled mess by him because he was so damn HAPPY. And FUN!
So, I decided to choose one of my favourite scenes, of him being happy and fun and triumphant and a little insane
(I love you tube.... takes away me having to explain.)
grabbed a couple of screencaps of mah DVDs, that were annoyingly low quality, and whipped this up.

Basically, I chose Happiness, because that is what the Master radiates: evil, EVIL happiness, and also, because its what me feel, as a viewer, every single moment he was on screen.

Entry one
Ok, so I love feelings hehe. Na really, I think it's so mch fun making "emotional" pieces so this really is "my dish" so to speak ;)
Anyway, in this piece I have Love (longing) and a bit of Sadness (suffering). I hope it's OK to have a bit of both, but come to think of it they do kind of belong together (how can you long for someone and not be suffering?). The piece portrays when Oliver tells Lois he has to go (Smallville). And she's sad because she really liked him and had finally let somebody in etc. He's sad for just abut the same reasons, only he knows why he has to go (Green Arrow superhero stuf). To that's the gist...

Love: Affection.

I wanted to show the platonic, but very strong love the Doctor and Rose experience in season 2.
They share their time on the TARDIS together, and grow to have deep affection for each other, and possibly twu wuv, and I wanted to capture this in the moment just before the heartbreaking finale, when Rose thinks she's lost the Doctor, but then he returns to her, and she expresses her feelings that they'll never be split up.

The Doctor also feels affection for edible ball bearings on Cup Cakes. :D

Well I chose the emotion fear and chose some of the secondary emotions too. In this episode peyton found out that the person posing to be her long lost brother Derek wasn't him. Instead it was a crazy admirer of Peyton. And after peyton found out that he was stalking her and taking her picture, he turned psycho and chased her into the house, cut of her phone line, filled her bedroom with the images he had been taking of her. Which really freaked her out! Well the "Derek" chased her upstairs and hurt her really and tried to rape her, until Lucas walked in and sort a hit him off her but then "Derek" was too strong for him and electrocuted him (I Think) and after all that Peyton's real brother Derek turned up and him and Lucas threw fake Derek out of a window. In the piece I tried to show the fear and madness of which Peyton was going through by repeating the word help has that must of been her first reaction.

Second Entry
My thoughts on the piece...
Excuse my (momentary) obsession with Smallville... Anyway, I chose hate this time. Now in this pice Clark (the protagonist of the show) is fighting an evil (bizarr) copy of himself. So Clark is angry (rage, disgust). Furthermore, the copy is also angry (irritated and in a way, a bit envyous). So it's all kinds of angry feelings being thrown around...

I tried to show the light (good) Clark vs. the dark (bad) Clark. When you speak in terms of metaphors, the sun (here represented by the sun light) most often represent good, day, men (Aries) and reason etc. While the dark is often associated with the night time, mystery, the moon (which leads to madness :), but also into the femenine etc. but let's not go there just now ^^). Anyhow, I tried to get the contrast between the two to really stand out by using colours and light...

Oh, and I hope everybody gets the title...

Entry One: Love Controlled Despair

I chose despair for this scene because it's on both sides of the relationship, if you will. Angel is in despair because he's lost, he's been in Hell for centuries and (this is the romantic Bangel in me :D ) I think a certain part of him recognizes Buffy, but he can't acknowledge the recognition. And then there is Buffy, who said goodbye to him in the last episode and then bam! He's back and he's an animal, unable to be the Angel that she last saw and loved. At the same time, she wants to help him, but she's unsure where she stands with Angel and her feelings for him, as well as the obvious: blood-thirsty beast.

ENTRY ONE: SURPRISE

Great challenge by the way:) Lots to think on.

This entry is about when Buffy finds out Angel is a vampire. There she is getting down and smoochy with a hottie and he goes all vamp face on her. Talk about surprise....well there is probably a little bit of fear in there as well. Caps aren't the best I know...but hey I love the moment:D

Havent really been in the mood to make fan art lately, but I did just recently make this. I suppose the feeling associated with this piece is contentment.. but also that feeling when you just know something. This last scene in the Firefly ep. 'Out of Gas' is really touching.. it comes right after Mal has a bonding moment with his 'family' then we have a flashback to when he first sees his ship Serenity. It's free for interpretation but the scene to me is really full with good feelings and a knowledge of your destiny being tied to something tangible.. or I'm just full of crap ;)

This entry was made on a whim. I actually had an entirely different idea for lust, but it occurred to me that this was one of the hottest scenes I had ever seen, without even meaning to be. The scene isn't neccessarily about sex, but the sexual tension is just UNREAL.

Well, I hope it is acceptable that I chose ANGER. But I wanted to show a few aspects of anger. I shall explain. :)

This is a piece from the season three episode of Battlestar Galactica called "Unfinished Business." The episode revolves around a boxing ring as various characters duke it out to vent their frustrations; the episode is interspersed with flashbacks showing the viewers what happened a while back when the characters were settled on a planet...before they had to flee it.

Kara and Lee, aka Starbuck and Apollo, are essentially in love with each other but each married other people. They fight in the boxing ring and through flashbacks it is revealed that the two had slept together and made their admissions of love, yet the morning after, Kara leaves and marries another man. Ten Months later they are fighting in the ring as their spouses look on. The two had never discussed what happened between them and it has been tearing them up.

Okay, that was a looong explanation but I don't know how else to explain my entry. :p In it I wanted to show the Envy that exists between the four people, how each has something the other one wants. I wanted to show the Rage that Lee and Kara exhibit for each other. And I wanted to show the Exasperation that the various relationships have brought everyone. Now, it is a sort of simple episodic collage and so I used images that show the present and the past and all these little times in between that have brought the characters here. I thought the red tones brought out each of the emotions pretty well. So I hope it came off okay. :)

Entry 3 - Anger

Okay so if anyone ever plans on watching Robin Hood don't look at this piece. It's like the biggest spoiler ever. But if you don't ever plan on watching then here we go! Kind of long explanation in spoiler tags. (major spoilers for the series 2 finale)


Guy (the man obviously) is evil. He's the Sheriff's henchman and Robin his #1 enemy. His one redeeming quality is he's in love with Marian. In s1 they were engaged but she's in love with Robin so she broke it off. Anyway he doesn't know about her and Robin although he has his suspicions. She's kind of been manipulating Guy into thinking she may have feelings for him so that he helps her out and stuff. In the series 2 finale Guy and the Sheriff travel to the Holy Land to kill King Richard. In this scene he's about to kill the king when Marian runs up and tries to stop him still believing that maybe he has some good left in him. When he goes on about how this will make everything better because if he kills the king, he has power, he and Marian can get married. At this point Marian knows there's no way to stop him so she goes off about how'd she rather die than marry him. And that she's going to marry Robin. Well Guy doesn't take this news very well. His reaction is a bit um... extreme. He shoves a sword through her stomach. :'(

Entry 4 - Sadness (falls under Anger too what the yelling he did but he was crying while yelling so I'll go with sadness)

Robin (on the right) and Much are best friends. They fought in the war together and Much used to be his servant but Robin dismissed him from his servitude or whatever. Ever since they got back from the war Robin has been treating Much like he's still his servant and just generally being an a-hole to him. After about two years of this treatment Much explodes and yells hysterically at Robin about how much Robin doesn't appreciate him and yada yada. It's been a long time coming. And Much is pissed and really devastated.

Another Peyton One tree hill piece but this time the total opposite, in a previous episode peyton told Lucas she was in love with him. But Lucas being a lad just went oh and walked off. But earlier in this episode he told peyton that he love her too. I didn't want to use the scene where he told her that has that scene had confetti and al sorts going on, it was just really busy!

I've always sympathized with Faith. I've always preferred her to Buffy. I get her. Maybe because I myself have felt this way about someone before, (aside from the slayer part obviously, heh). I've always thought her feelings in this scene were completely heartfelt, and even through her anger, I could see that deep down she was hurt. My opinions aside, envy can be an ugly beast.

For my second entry, I chose Anger as a general go-around, mostly because this piece encompasses the emotion as a whole and from different angles in the episode 'Five Years Gone' from Heroes, where Hiro transported himself and saw a future had the bomb gone off, with Claire saved. There's Peter who's, first, angry about his part in the bombing of New York, second, the fact that Nathan is dead and in his place is Sylar, who he let take the credit for the bombing. Then there's Sylar, who's just a big ball of rage as it is, mostly against his fellow kind. All in all, both of them are pretty full of anger because of the events through the last five years, to that moment where Hiro transported. Kind of a sloshy explanation. :D

This is from Battlestar Galactica, 3.12 "Rapture". The Cylon D'Anna Biers has achieved the taboo -- she has seen the faces of these mystical figures between life and death. Because she recognises them, there is certainly surprise, but I wanted more to convey her joy -- perhaps a little enthrallment but more so the absolute contentment that now overtakes her.

I really wanted to do a joyful piece and it seems there is so little joy in the world of television, that it was tricky to find a subject. Suddenly though I remembered Hiro from Heroes. Now if there was anyone in the whole world of TV who was more or less consistently joyful it would be him. His delight at transporting himself to New York from a crowded commuter train in Tokyo was wonderful!

Third Entry
If I have to choose a main emotion, I'd chose anger - because I meant this mostly out of Booth's pov (there of the lyrics). So I guess anger - irritation. However, Brennan is more "fear". So for my explanation....

Booth (the guy) is talking on the phone and there's an ice cream/candy van driving slowly next to him on the street. Booth's on the phone and can't hear anything for the music the car is playing. So he pulls up his gun and shoots the clown on the top of the car (the source of the music playing) - problem solved. I think this is very funny, so I made my piece bright pink :D

Entry One-Anger

In the Angel episode Release, Faith comes back after getting beaten pretty badly by the Beast, well really badly. So she's really Angry, and lets that anger get the best of her while she's taking a shower.

Entry four
I'm entering like mad here ;) This piece is definitely fear.

Explanation
Fandom: Bones
Brennan and Jack has been buried alive in a car somewhere and the other in the gang are trying to find out where they could be buried. Only the time they had before the oxhygen is gone has run out. I tried to show how they all reacted when faced with this extreme fear of losing someone. Booth is angry, Angela is close to tears, Zach shuts off and cling on to math while Cam tries to hold everybody together and is stressed.

First entry:


Explanation
I wanted to do a piece about how Sam and Dean love each other. Their brotherly love and how they would do anything to save each other. When Dean makes his sacrifice to save Sam. I've not seen the newer episodes yet, so this piece is pure speculation from seeing the caps. When Sam meets the demon woman in Season 3 I think it's to try and get Dean out of the pact. Try to find a loophole in the pact that was made.

I wanted to show Sam at the crossroads with the demon which was all this piece had originally. I went back to the first episode where the demon appeared and used the song that the title of the episode is from. The image of Dean was added in later because there was nothing to show who Sam was doing this for.

Mine is a Bones piece from 2x21, the season finale. Hodgins and Angela are about to get married, and then they find out that Angela's already married. So, they run away together, and happy. So, I wanted to show their joy and optimism that they'll get married.

Entry Three: Betrayal

I've just recently been getting caught up on the second season of Heroes, and I loved this moment when Bennet sees the last painting in the series by Isaac, foretelling a certain set of people's deaths. He sees that it is him, laying dead, and that Claire is in the corner, making out with a shadow, indicating that she/they kill him for him/each other, or something to that extent. But then we have Claire, at the same time, who slowly realizes what it was exactly that her father did all those years and the method that he used to capture and tag, basically, people with abilities, getting this information from her new boyfriend, West (who can fly, go him!), who we are lead to assume is the shadow in the painting where Bennet is dead.

So, there is horror on both sides: Claire, that her father is a form of a 'monster' and Bennet, that his daughter kills him, or helps kill him. I wanted to use the lyrics to get the idea of the horror across, through sin and how it will always be there, following you.

Hush is in my opinion the scariest episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer by far. I wanted to use a different fandom but I really couldn't come up with something equally as terrifying, and I really wanted to do a horror entry.

I recently rewatched the second half of Season Six again, because well... it's my favorite. I realized this was an untouched scene, and have never seen anyone art it. I also realized it was perfect for this challenge. Willow has lost Tara, her sense of self, everyone else is so wrapped up in themselves and their own lives and problems, and this scene seems to be one of the only times in her addiction to magic where she sort of realizes what's happening to her, however short lived this clarity might be.

This Christmas, I got the first season of "Brothers & Sisters" and the first thing I did was watch the handful of episodes I hadn't seen before and when I finished watching episode 1.15 "Love is Difficult," I knew that I wanted to turn Sarah and Joe's marital problems and struggles in therapy into a wallpaper. Then I remembered this challenge and, long story short, I made this piece.

Basically, Sarah and Joe have been married for 10 years. They've got two kids, Joe is a stay-at-home dad and Sarah is the head of the Walker family business, which keeps her busy and away from home regularly. Tension has been building for awhile now and so the two of them decided to try marital therapy in an attempt to salvage their marriage. The first time, things go decently. The second time, the tension is beginning to hit the surface. The third time, Joe gives up on therapy altogether, thinking that the therapist (Joel Grey, the older man in the piece) can't help them at all. And at the end of the episode, Sarah goes to counseling alone and breaks down. Both Sarah and Joe are feeling so much pain - they don't want their marriage to fail, they want to stay madly in love with each other, but they keep drifting away from each other.

In my piece, I really wanted to show that sadness and pain. They're feeling lonely and distant and just want their family, their marriage, to piece itself back together again. The lyrics are from a song that was played in the first episode of the show - and, coincidentally, in a scene where Sarah is crying - and upon listening to the song again, I realized how sad it was and how appropriate the lyrics were when it comes to what Sarah is feeling - like Joe is just walking away from their marriage and how much she wants to save it from failing - and how Joe is feeling - that he doesn't want another failed marriage under his belt and how much he wants the two of them to be in love. Plus, I gave it a grainy texture to show that things obviously aren't going smoothly - as inspired by the amazing Zugma - and intensified the blue color to really accentuate the emotions they're feeling - as inspired by the fantabulous Jenni Lou.

And that's my piece. Sorry for the rambling explanation, but I felt it was necessary to describe the scene and what's going on. :p

Fifth entry
You get that I like this challenge? :D This time I'm going with Love. It's a Supernatural piece (first season). Sam has just lost his girlfriend Jessica (she was killed by a demon) and he's sad and blaming himself. Also, he keeps having nightmares about what happened - he can't sleep. Basically, he's having troubles getting over her death and moving on (which is understandable).

I know I could've just as easily taken sadness. However, in this piece I've chosen to not only convey her death + his guilt/sadness. I also wanted to show his longing for her to be with him again, his vain hope that she's alive. This is shown in a scene (Bloody Mary) where he's riding in a car and he thinks he sees her on the boardwalk in a white dress - like an angel (one might think). So basically, I'm trying to show that his love continues even though she's dead.

Entry One: This Is The Day

Supernatural episode one, season, two. This piece is full of emotions (I hope), since it is to display Sam's dispair and Dean's irritation and fear, and you can't say Sam's face isn't expressing sadness. He is more than sad and afraid, when Dean won't wake up, but laso hope and optmism when he realises Dean is actually still there. In the same time, Dean is more than irritated and scared when nobody can see him. Amazing and fun episode, with a lot of emotions, hopefully at least a bit displayed in the piece.

Hope this isn't too late, but this is my entry for the challenge. I tried to focus on despair for this piece. It's a Moonlight piece from the pilot. Basically Mick and his Ex-wife Coraline have been together for a long time and had an on-off relationship that has been described as a 'fever' to Mick, an 'addiction'. But in the pilot we saw the moment where all hope was lost in Mick's eyes for their relationship, this is the moment I used for this piece. I wanted to show their opposing views on the situation, and Coraline's turn to darkness, with Mick still in the light, with the clouds parting and the light separating them; but I also wanted to use the tunnel to symbolise the path they have taken together, and now they must go their separate ways. I really wanted to show the despair between them, by creating this hollow center, and to highlight the emptyness. Hope I pulled it off!
