Challenge 45: Yin and Yang

CHALLENGE 45:
YIN AND YANG

For my third challenge, I had about a bazillion ideas roaming through my head, one involving Shakespeare that, thinking back on it, I'm pretty sure maybe two people would have entered. :p I had this idea back when I did my first challenge, and it stuck with me, and it's a tried and true classic that never gets old, only gets better with age, etc.

The relationship between Love and Hate.

For this challenge, I want you to art something that you love with all your heart, something that makes you want to run through fields of daisies and lillies and roses (whatever you fancy) and sing songs by Tina Turner and then, I want you to art something that makes your blood boil. Something that you could rant about until the end of the week, and then a few days more, all in the same breath. Think... opposing forces.

Now, in order to make the entry make sense, the pieces of art have to be linked to each other. Two opposing forces always have something in common, in a sense, that they came from the same source, the yin and the yang. An idea of a link between the pieces could be something you loved and something you despised about a season of Buffy, or it could be the scenes where Sam and Dean are brotherly and joking (something you didn't appreciate) as opposed to the scenes where they're fighting (rawk on!) in Supernatural. It could be Angel vs. Firefly (the link being Joss Whedon, being the creator).

This is not a battle between two things, but more taking a subject and finding something that you love about it, and something that you hate about it. Hate being a harsh word, yes, but no matter what, there's something, that tiny little thing, that just itches your skin and makes you wiggle around anxiously, while there is something from the same source that makes you drool in front of the TV with joy.

Requirements:

Entries: KEEP IN MIND ONE ENTRY NEEDS TWO PIECES TO BE COMPLETE! I would prefer that you post the entries as you make them. It's great if you post one part of the entry and the other half later, just make sure you post them both before the deadline in the same post. I don't want a bunch of half posts jiggling around everywhere, half naked.
Judging: Who the heck knows what kind of awards I'll create, the important point in this is to remind you that I will not include an entry with only one wallpaper in the judging, as it will be deemed incomplete. Also, to make this more challenging, if I feel that you didn't grasp the concept of the challenge, it'll be dodgy as far as awards go for your entry(ies).
Fandoms: Go crazy! Movies, books, comics, television. My only requirement is that you include an explanation with everything that you post. And titles. I love me some titles to you art.
Sizes: 800x600 and bigger. A special allowance for wallscrolls: If you can show the relationship of love and hate in a subject through a wallscroll, that will count as your two pieces in one entry. The wallscroll minimum size is 2500x300.
Deadline: Friday, November 30. Midnight, US Mountain time. (Beware of time zone changes...)

Ok, so let's all bow down to Bre! I adore this challenge! Seriously, it forces evrybody to do at least two entrys and since you usually don't do pieces with/about something you despise, you get to do new things/motives. :D

First entry (well, -ies I guess)
Anyway, This has nothing to do with Alias, really. It has everything to do with Marilyn Manson. See I love his music. However, I hate Para-noir! Seriously, I really don't see why you have to use the f-word that many times during three minutes! Anyway, I know Tainted Love is a cover. However, of all the versions I've heard (which is like four) his is without question the best. Moreover, I didn't want to use the lyrics to either Golden Age of Grotesque or This is the New Shit because to me those belong to Voldy and I'm not in a Voldy mood...

Para-noir
Ok. I was in a Vaughn/Lauren mood. And since both the lyrics I wanted to use fit with thier relationship I thought it would be kinda funny if I did both pieces with Vaughn and Lauren. Furthermore, the part from Para-Noir I used is very much my kind of sarcastic humor. "I don't need a reason to hate you the way I do".

Tainted Love
So for this I used one of the besto songs ever. Best version by Marilyn Mason :D I also tried to get some contrast between him and her. And in this, they're both sort of evil - in their own way. She's more devilish evil (with the red) and he's just very cold (blue). Anyway, I find the line "You don't really want any more from me" kinda ironic because of their relationship.

First Entry: Ryan the Cowardly (Fire starting, Douchey, Twerpy...) Temp

So my first entry is about my ongoing love/hate relationship with Ryan from the Office. He's kind a douche most of the time, but I usually either think it's really funny or I just want to smack him. There are moments where I think he's absolutely awesome (or I even feel bad for him) and moments where I want to kick him in the...yeah. So I'll just get to the pieces :p

Welcome Back A-hole. (Hate)
In spoilertags for language that they were only able to show online in a deleted scene...and for possible season 4 spoilers :o

Basically, I knew my hate piece had to be a season 4 piece, after Ryan was a sneaky bastard and started working for corporate. His meteoric rise to Douchey von Douchenstein of the year. I really couldn't decide how I was going to go about this, in terms of scene/text/cap choice. I even had trouble stylistically, because I knew something had to set it apart from my other pieces (which are about things I love, adore and worship).

I wanted to use a certain Kelly and Ryan scene, and have the whole entry be about Kelly/Ryan in general. But no, I really wanted to do this one. Because of all the things I hate about him this season so far, I hate the freaking hideous growth on his face he calls a beard. I wanted to show my disgust of him through Jan. Because one: he's the ass who somehow stole her job (well, she was going to be fired no matter what. But considering his lack of experience and the fact that he pretty much sucked at the job he already had in Scranton, he snaked it away from much more deserving candidates *cough*Karen*cough*) And two: she made fun of that beard and patronized him like the kiddy temp he really is. I was going to do one of those Glamour magazine Black Bar fashion don'ts...but I want to shame Ryan as much as possible. :evil: And because I really wanted Kelly's presence somehow, I tried to include her little makeover of the "Welcome Back Ryan" (which in a deleted scene, she changed a little bit...you could see in the piece) Unfortunately, I could not get a good cap of that as they only have the deleted scenes online, so I mimicked it as best as I could using PS :xd

Like Romeo and Juliet (Love)
Even if I couldn't get it to work exactly in my hate piece, I really wanted to show my love for Ryan through Kelly. Like Kelly, I find him adorable even though he can be a bit of a jerk (coward, snake...). And one of my favorite things about Ryan is his, um...relationship with her. He's so resistant, but he always gives in to her crazy affection eventually! I mean, come on. He couldn't just break it off with her, and it took him a sneaky move and a new job to get away! He grew attached to her, I tell you! He just doesn't want to admit it. Ryan and Kelly are completely dysfunctional, immature, and they can both be kind of cruel to each other. But something I love about them is that they still have these moments where they're actually really sweet and cute together. Like a quick shot of her playfully sticking a candy cane on his nose. Or (in a deleted scene that I really loved) Kelly digging through a dumpster trying to recover the Christmas present she got for Ryan, and then he ends up in the dumpster with her. I do love it when he's kind of being an ass (like getting Kelly to explain Netflix all for the sake of gambling, or talking about his cousin Mufasa dying in a stampede...or just stopping short of saying Kelly has a little junk in the trunk when he notices the camera :p) But I ADORE his ups and downs with Kelly oh, so much.
So, about the actual piece. I initially was going to do the Netflix scene, and then ended up just picking out a bunch of my favorite Ryan/Kelly moments. I had this wallscroll idea because I needed a way to work a bunch of different scenes into the piece. But as I fail at wallscrolls (and as I really wanted a Ryan/Kelly wallpaper), I just went for an almost wallscroll feel. I think it might be a little more Kelly-ish than Ryan, but I love Ryan because Kelly loves Ryan!

Here I am with my entry in two arts! I chose to show my love/hate about the show My So-Called Life. I absolutely LOVE the show. It was so poignant and moving. And it was a great teen show because--unlike the ones that air nowadays--this one was real. In fact, it is the realest teen show I have ever seen. All the characters aren't falling into bed with each other. But there is some drinking and a ever-so-slight drug use. But that's what teens do! And the parents aren't absent. And there aren't super crazy dramas like people getting shot or kids living on their own and that nonsense.

So for my LOVE side I decided to make a collage and add some of the truly moving quotes from the series. There are a lot of voice-overs that I think are just awesome and they absolutely sound like they come from a teenager. School is a Battlefield for Your Heart.

As for what I HATE about the show is the way it ended. Unfortunately it got canceled after only eighteen episodes and ended on a cliffhanger. Now what sucks most is that the show like never had cliffhangers. SO the one time they really do, it leaves us hanging forever! A little info then: Angela's neighbor, Brian, has had a huge crush on her for a long time and Angela has been on the odds with Jordan who she used to date. But to win her back he asked Brian to compose a letter for Angela to tell her how he feels. Of course, Brian ended up writing the letter from his own heart and let Jordan pass it off as his own. And Angela just loved it. But in the very last scene, Brian accidentally confesses he is the author just as Jordan arrives to whisk Angela away. And the two drive off together as Angela looks over to Brian. THE END! :mad: See? Isn't that terrible?!?!?!?! :p I Meant Every Word.

Love the challenge...It's really made me use the old grey matter.

I decided to do Buffy & Spike. I just hope they fit the requirements of the challenge. The first one is a scene that I love in Fool For Love. Spike decides it's time to kill Buffy in order to rid himself of his feelings for her. When he goes to do it he finds her outside her house, alone and crying about her Mom's illness. Instead of killing her he offers her comfort. I find this a really touching scene as you got to see a side of Spike you previously didn't see.

Spoiler warning for Heroes season 2!

First of all, I really had trouble choosing what to make about this challenge, it left me with A LOT of options. Which is good, it made me think hard so great challenge! Anyway, I have this way of "hating" the character that treats my favorite character bad or dislikes him/her, so there's a bunch of them. After narrowing down my thoughts I ended up with a couple that actually have a "yin and yang relationship":

It's the twins from season two of heroes; Maya and Alejandro Herres. Maya can poison and kill the people around her with just her mind, but her power is yet so unstable that she depends on Alejandro to "reverse her damage" by withdrawing her sickness out of her and all the poisoned.


Maya
I have no idea why, but Maya really bugs me. She's got this annoying crush on Syler, and always drags, not just herself but Alejandro down and gets the two of them into trouble. A big part of why I dislike her so much is probably because she's so over protective of Alejandro, and just wants him for herself. And that's kind of the same situation I had with my ex last year, jealous sisters who can't won't trust me! Blah! So, I don't like her.

Maya - Style
In Maya's piece chose dead trees and fire, to show her evil power that only brings death.

So, who doesn't fall easy for gorgeous latino guys with puppy eyes? I'm probably blinded but I just like everything about him, especially his kindness.

I continued focusing on the powers in Alejandro's piece, and since his power works in conjunction with Maya's, I placed trees and such things to represent life.

The text is from Nine Inch Nails "Something I Can Never Have", and it's written from Mayas POV, on her side I chose to show how her power is out of control and the trouble that she has with it (And her lack of independence, which I don't really like). And on Alejandro's side, I wanted to show that he helps her with this, and his kind heart is something I like about him!

Making
As you probably can see... this is a manipulation, I chose that style because I knew that I can express myself best in them.
I wanted the pictures to look unbalanced without each other, because without each other, that's just what they are. That's why I "ripped" the etches apart and let the text be cryptic without the other part. Because even though I don't like Maya, I know that their both sides wouldn't exist without each other, just like Yin and Yang.

Ron - I love this character and the actor, both don't get enough attention from the fans or the directors of the films. Ron/Rupert are really down to earth and he played an important role in OOTP and DH.
