Challenge 41 - Capless [Archive]

Well, this has just crept up on me so fast! This challenge is going to be very straight forward - as the title suggests, I'd like you to art using only promotional pics - no screencaps at all. Use the best quality images you can find and make your art as professional-looking as possible.

You can, of course, use stock photos and textures - just no screencaps from TV shows or movies.

Other than that one restriction, anything goes - you can do episode art using promotional stills, character art, or you can art actors using photoshoot photos.

To make it more interesting, I've come up with a few catagories:

1. Single Picture
Make your art using only one pic - crop it, flip it, repeat it as many or as few times as you like in your piece.

2. Promo Art
Use images to design a promotional advertisement for a TV show or movie (only for existing shows/movies or longstanding fanfics please - but PM me if you have an idea other than this...)

3. Hollywood Style
Style is the key here - make your image like an old-style hollywood poster or image - glamour, soft-focus, feathers, pearls and/or black and white are some ideas to get you started.

4. Black Sheep
Wanna make capless art that doesn't fit any of the above catagories? Go wild and make it under this catagory for the black sheep of the Capless challenge family of artworks! :)

Make sure that you clearly indicate which catagory each piece is for.

The Nitty-Gritty:
Sizes: any and all; I particularly like wallscrolls!
Entries: as many as you like; please post all in the same post.
Fandoms: All. Keep in mind that I don't watch Supernatural or Heroes, so explain your piece if necessary. :)
Deadline: 2 November (just over 4 weeks)

This is Veronica Mars through all the seasons, every main cast member has their own main image up... I tried to fit characters like Trina in but it really didn't fit v.v I wish there were promo shots of Beaver on the roof and Veronica in the final scene, but there isn't, so thats why its lacking in some part.
100% CAPLESS! ^_^!

I wanted to experiment with a single promo image like Peace has been doing, and I just wanted to see what I could come up with. I'm not 100% pleased, but I enjoyed expermenting with some of the textures that I would usually stay away from, I kinda realized when used right, they really can add to an image.

This will have to go into the Black Sheep category because it sorta fits both the Promo and Hollywood categories but doesn't really fit them either - I got a bit confused about what I was doing half way through and it ended up a hybrid. Still I'm kinda pleased how it came out, but I couldn't decide whether I liked the colour or monochrome one better so I'm afraid you've got both - I hope that's allowed. If not PM me and I'll choose one.

Is He Evil?
We know that Joss intended Gunn to be vamped if there was to be a Season 6 and there doesn't seem to be any real idea yet whether this will still happen in the new Angel comic, or even if Gunn will be in it. Version 1 is supposed to be a comic style promo for the comic. Version 2's supposed to be a old style Hollywood film advert for it.

I decided to lean more towards the Promo Art with a spin towards Hollywood Style as well. It's a promotional piece for [/b]Dirt[/b] but I've used various effects to make it a more glamorous picture. Thats what I went for anyway.

I made two version, one without and one with the moon in the background. But I chose this one because on the other one, the background looked too plain.

Okay, so this started as a Hollywood vintage poster and I did keep some elements from that. The circles, for example were inspired from two separate film posters. Now, I hope this acceptable--a manipulation--because I didn't use any promo pics of the characters, just the actor photoshoots. And I was going to file this under Hollywood Style but I guess it might be more apropos to BLACK SHEEP because I strayed from my original concept because I was having too much fun. :D

Love the challenge and hope to do another! I also hope I remember to edit into this post!!

PROMO ART. Gossip Girl. Not much explanation needed. I wanted to do a show I have never done before and these promos were so pretty. I added some "xoxo" around because that's how the voice-over narrator goes out: "xoxo, Gossip Girl." :)

SINGLE PICTURE. This is Ned from Pushing Daisies! He bakes pies. :p He was holding a cherry pie in this pic so I decided to play off that. I found this great pic of fingers holding the cherry stems and it was so perfect because when touches dead things, they come back to life. Including fruit! In the pilot he brings back a lifeless strawberry. :)

This is such a great challenge :D

I have two entries ready, they are both from the new show Gossip Girl.
First one is Serena who is one of "the hottest girl at school" (something like that) and because her character is a bit mixed up, she's got secrets but she's also a genuinely sweet person, I tried to make this piece both dark and light and kinda ethereal looking, to suit the character.

Second one is Jenny, who is a bit younger than the other main characters of the show. She comes across so sweet and innocent and I tried to make the piece light and sweet and pretty but still with a bit of spark, just the way I see the character.

The way I see Blair, she always comes across super perfect, glamorous and bitchy but just underneath the surface she is a quite insecure girl. There are layers and layers to Blair and she chooses carefully which layers she shows to which people... I wanted to get the feeling out of sort of chaotic perfection, if that's the right term because sometimes we do see Blair's carefully represented outer layer cracking a little bit. I wanted to create a bit of cloudy/hazy feel to this as well as glamour and prettiness.

Ok, I realise I made 3 Gossip Girl pieces for this challenge all in the same category, but I really just loved these images and I am sort of consumed by this show at the moment :redshy: I really think this was an awesome challenge and I wish I'd had the time to make heaps more entries... I had so many ideas :)

I'm not too sure which category this entry fits, It's a poster style piece but its also a promotional piece as well. For this entry I used promo pictures from Season 4 of the 4400 I wanted to make a sort of Star Wars style poster but it didn't really work out, I wanted this piece to fit the one of the taglines for the show that being "The world will have to deal with us".

First Entry: Pretty Young Thing
Category: Single Picture

So, I was going to make this for the Hollywood category, but I feel more comfortable putting it in single picture :) It's of the actress Isla Fisher. I just really love this picture of her, and I felt like doing something different here, using the tiny repeating croppings of the same image in the background. I wanted to give it a vintage feel but keep it within my own style as a modern twist. It's supergrainy. It was originally really smooth, but I like the grainy outcome much better with the style of the piece :lol:

First time I'm entering a challenge on here. Two entries and both are under the Single Picture category.

This piece if of Cameron from House. I found this picture I believe from Daydreaming, and I thought it was so different from the rest of the pics of the cast, I had to use it.

So background info: Dean goes to hook up with a girl he was with 8 (nearly 9) years ago and find out that she is a mother to an 8 year old boy. Dean basically thinks that Ben, the son is his, and get's used to the idea of being his dad as the episode progresses. But at the end he finds out that Ben isn't his son. At this point Dean sees Lisa's life, the house and her son everything that she has and he realises he's never going to have that and he's quite envious of her, and dissapointed that he wasn't connected to her and this life. (Dean made a deal with a demon to save his brother that means he only has 1 year left to live, and so he really pauses to think about life and what he is leaving behind in this episode.)

Okay, I saw this episode promo picture of Dean walking away from this life that Lisa had, and really just wanted to art it. I wanted to show this image of a curtain being pulled back from Dean's life to uncover these feelings of envy over Lisa's life and what she has. And I loved this image of Dean walking away from it and realising that he's never going to have it. I really wanted to use these light colours as the surface to show how Dean's been living his life happily and then once this curtain has been peeled back there's these new feelings of envy, hence the green tones. Hope that made sense!

This was made using promo images from various episodes. Gordon Walker is a hunter, one who sees everything in black and white, and he believes that Sam is connected to the demon war and that to protect humanity he must kill him. So this piece is from Gordon's point of view, as he holds the knife in his hand, and considers the fact that he's not sure Sam is even human, so I used the image of Sam when he was possessed by a demon to look back at Gordon, thus showing what Gordon sees in him, and then I also used an image of when Sam could have killed Gordon in the past, leading up to the knife, but with Gordon sort of looking past this and only seeing his demon-side. I used the stock of the flame coming from the knife, as Gordon contemplates sending Sam back to hell, and I thought the dark red tones really showed the power and gravity of what Gordon proposes, but I wanted to use these lighter tones coming from the knife to show how Gordon viewed that in Sam's death, there would be hope for humanity. Hope it makes sense.

So, Cate Blanchett just rocks my world. 'Nuff said. She has some gorgeous, very elegant and old-Hollywood esque images floating around that I adore and I used a black and white style with a dash of red. I kept it pretty modern as far as focus, but the idea behind it is still old Hollywood. :D

Catagory: Black Sheep I think...

This scene from 3.04 - Sin City really inspired me to make it into art, so I thought I'd use the episode promos and enter in into this challenge :)

In the scene, the new girl in the show, Ruby, tells Sam that she'll be with him to help him through his supposed 'destiny'. The part that got me was the bit where she said 'I'll be that little fallen angel on your shoulder' - which reminded me of the fallen angel Lucifer (AKA - the devil). Since the episode was mainly about how some demons believed in the devil as like a 'god' and they believed that one day he will return, my mind started thinking about Ruby being Lucifer. Whether it's true or not I have no idea, but I really want to make the piece. Hope it's ok :)
