View Full Version : Posting problems

Hey there, I'm having some problems posting. I've tried it on two different computers (work and home) and when I try to post, it won't let me. Seem to be able to post in the VIP and here, but not when I post eg in the feedback forum. Any idea why?

Well, can you be more specific? What happens when you do try and post? Do you get an error screen?

Right, just did a little experiment. I posted fine in the feedback forums (in kingofcretins' thread) but when I tried to edit the post I got the following screen, which is what I've got a few times while trying to post. It seems to happen when I try to paste text into the post (which has never been a prob before).
You don't have permission to access /forums/editpost.php on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

That is rather peculiar. But you did get to post, eh? I saw it. But now you can't edit? Nothing like this has happened for me and no one else has brought up such a problem. Nikki's on holiday now so it might be a bit before she can look into it.
At this time I am thinking it is a glitch that will disappear. Or at the very least only makes a sporadic appearance. Wish I could help you right away. :/

No worries! I'll keep trying and see if it sorts itself out. :)

Just to add - Wolfie emailed me the post she's trying to post, and I've tried both editing it into her original post and posting it as a new reply to the thread, but I'm getting exactly the same error. I tried moving King of Cretins' feedback thread into a different section to see if it would accept the post there, but no luck. So I'm going to assume there's a problem with this particular thread in the database, perhaps? It's very puzzling. But I suspect we will just have to wait for Nikki to get back off holiday to resolve the issue, unfortunately.

Adding to Jo's post (thanks for trying!)...I tried to pm KoC with my feedback and that didn't work either. It seems to be causing probs when I cut and paste text from elsewhere.

I can just post a bunch of feedback for myself and attribute it to you :)
You can't even post on discussion threads?
Wolfie Gilmore
27-09-07, 03:02 PM
I can, just not if I cut and paste text from a word doc or an email (which I usually do with long posts). If you wanna pm me your email I could email you some feedback for the moment though, and feel free to repost it :)

It does sound to be a problem with the thread. Why don't we just start a new one, Llywela?

Hmm, I did have a problem pasting stuff into a pm though...and KoC tried to paste stuff I'd emailed to him. I think maybe it's a problem with the text itself. Maybe I should just type it up agian!
Ok not sure if this is the same for you Lou, but if you paste text over that you've typed in word I find using the button on the far left, kind of like an A with a cross through it, removes all of the word formatting which makes it more compatible with the forum..
However it could be a problem with that thread although the admin pannel isn't showing any thread problems for me :s

Thanks Nikki. I'll try that (I can see the button)...though for the moment, KoC has managed to repost the stuff anyway. One of them computer mysteries.
(ps hope you had a good holiday!)

Oh oh oh! I thought it was just my computer being weirdo... but I had the same problem on the very last episode I was posting during my giant Raven post! I tried fiddeling around with moving it around and nope... still hates me :( So now its a recurring problem! I'll do what you suggested Nikki!
It's not actually a bad thing but I had yesterday 194-195 posts and now it poped up to 200// is there a reason?

Not sure, omri. But maybe one of the forums has post count turned on where it not ought to be and some thread got moved there. Or a thread (or more) were moved into a different forum where post count is activated. That's usually why one of things happen.
I never notice that stuff myself. I don't ever remember my post count from visit to visit. :p
Ok, thought so.
I do count my posts cause I want to have the abilty to have a banner on my sig. it's not like I feel I'm in some compition..

I didn't mean to imply that actually. ;) I just meant that I don't notice cause I already have the sig benefits and a ton of posts...so I just don't notice. Although I was thinking earlier today how crazy it was that I have over 750 posts. I don't feel like I made that many. But I guess that's 'cause I did a bunch of posting when we were all moving over here to help get the forum going and I suppose they just added up! So...yeah...sorry. Didn't mean anything bad by that! :)

I don't know if it matter's or not, but I'm pretty sure that Omri's post count was upped because a certain thread was dead-threaded into the fanart dead thread section :)
EDIT: It was in the misc section before. (And man, did I use the word thread a lot.)

It's ok.. I know you didn't mean that in a bad way.
Thanks.
Thanks J.j! glad to know!

I did it. I moved the thread into the fanart dead threads so it could be found with ease at a later date. There were a lot of well written posts about fanart so I thought it best moved into that section. Art theft is serious and I think it should be left as a warning to newcomers and a reference for other fanartists.

You guys the same things happening to me as it did to Wolfie Gilmore! :cutecry: It's getting to be really annoying. I'm trying to post in the Loo, shag, brolly, bum: the divided by a common language thread and it keeps giving me this,

I've clicked the little A button that was said earlier and nothing and I retyped it all without copy/pasting anything and it still won't let me. This has happened to me before on previous threads but after awhile it went away. What else should I try? What doesn't make sense, I'm able to post in here just not in the thread I would like to post in. :badpc:

Did you try to post 'm o n t y p y t h o n'? Wolfie and I discovered that was the problem phrase when she tried to post my feedback.

:rotflmao:   OMG you noticed it tooooo!!!!!!! The last time this had happened to me I was writing something about Monty_Python. I was wondering that today. I'm like why is it everytime I write about it, this happens. But I got it to work somehow by writing it in without the underscore. Do we know why it's this little phrase that causes problems?!
Jenni Lou
15-10-07, 03:11 AM
Seriously? Are you guys serious? Monty Python? :headscratch:
That can't be for real. Is that for real? Weird.
holypotatoes
15-10-07, 03:14 AM
YES! We're for real. Did it not just give you an error message when you typed Monty Python. Go to any other thread and try to type it in. It will do it, I swear! *cross my heart hope to die*

Yeah, I didn't get an error message. But I did when I tried to post a test message in the fanfic forum. That is totally peculiar! :confused3:

I know! Maybe the system's biased against Monty Python. ;) It's odd. At least now we know what the problem is if it happens again.
It's very odd. I also never have problems posting Monty Python... and I've never seen this error message.
There is no logical way the forum can just randomly say that certain members can't post certain words.. so it must be something else causing it, but honestly I have no idea :s
Are you posting using the quick reply box or using the post reply page? Maybe try using both to see if you get the same result?
The way permissions are set are by usergroup and forum, not particilar threads. I will check all the usergroup settings for the misc and fanfic forums but other than that I can't think of anything else that can work. I'll try testing all the forums to see if I can get this error then I can send it to the Vbulletin support.

I know it's a problem and annoying and everything...but I find it so unutterably hilarious! Don't mention the parrot people! Perhaps we should just call them that instead. Or the spanish inquisition?

The "Knights who say Ni" maybe! Or even the "little bunny rabbit" perhaps?BTW did we ever figure out the Meaning Of Life? :p It's weird that this little phrase is causing problems. Jenni Lou didn't believe me yesterday until she tried to post it and it happened. I don't know what to tell ya. :s
Oh and I tried posting it in both but it didn't want to work in either one.

The problem appears to be limited to the fanfic forums, so far.
It's by far the coolest coding problem in the history of IT.

It is pretty cool! An anomaly at BuffyForums. It seems to be in the fanfic threads and miscellaneous threads. Although I think Nikki tried it this morning in the Loo, shag..... thread but then deleted her post, since I got an e-mail saying she posted it but when I clicked the link it wasn't there. If she doesn't get a message she'll probably think we're joking. Watch we'll get these warnings not to post these horrible rumors!
I just tried writing plain Monty Python.
It worked. But when I tried writing anything after it it gave me the forbidden message again. Try writing M_P (using the actual words) kicks ass. In this thread. It won't let you. :rotflmao:

ROFLMFAO!   Oh wow! This has me laughing soo hard!
I just tried to do what holypotatoes suggested and it gave me an error message. I don't understand how this error even exists! I didn't know forums could HAVE taboo words like this. I mean...Huh. I can't even try to come up with a logical explanation here. The forum hates MP!
I'm trying to figure out if maybe it just has something to do with the wording in the coding? Maybe MP is like a secret code to do something naughty with the forum? Huh.
Whatever the case may be, this is some serious funny shtuff. :p
EDIT: Schnicklefritz! It just gave me the error again! Oyvey...
EDITED EDIT: I just tried posting MP an then something after it in the VIP Lounge and got the error so it's obviously a probably concerning the full forum.

Yet another confirmation! This is sooooo much fun. This can be our own little inside joke you guys. We can put M_P randomly in posts and we'll be the only ones who understand what it means. Like our own secret code! I see questionable looks in the near future. M_P rules! Do we think there are any other words that do this to the forum? I don't think it's the letters M.P together that's doing it. It's the actual words! And what code would MP be for anyway?
Monty Python.

I think it's the ghost of graham chapman. But now he knows I'm onto him, perhaps he'll go away.
Monty Python! (this is in non quick reply mode btw)
